  1. Seem to recall the temperature grass grows at is 6 degrees and over. Is this true, anyone? Does it relate to veg, etc, as well?
  2. Recently purchased my first .17HMR, so can only comment on this one alone.... managed to find a 2nd hand mint condition CZ 455 Varmint, plus scope & moderator......and I LOVE it! Can't fault it, but then I have little experience to compare accurately....but... couple of pals who shoot 17 & 22 (and have done for MANY yaers) now want to get one as well. Hope that helps J
  3. Just bottled 40 pints of home brew, though I 'cheat' and use kits. Yet to progress onto 'proper' brewing. Anyone know much about brewing beer from scratch? Or are kits close enough for most? J
  4. Give it a go, Kay.....I'm sure you'll love it. That first tomato will be the best ever! Will be sorting a small salad veg plot for the current Mrs Jay. Lettuce and stuff. Easy, quick and very little space. Hope your first attempts go well. Here's hoping for some decent weather
  5. Moved into our place 18 months ago....garden hadn't been touched for 6 or 7 years. Full of bamboo, brambles, shrubs n stuff. Didn't even know we had a greenhouse until I was half way through clearing it all! Last year, planted spuds. Helped to clear the weeds. They didn't do too bad, considerling the wettest year EVER! Tried toms in the greenhouse....they were rubbish This year: soft fruit along the fence (to hide the Methodists Chapel). Going for blackcurrant, raspberry, boysenberry, japanese wineberry, blackberry and the current Mrs Jay wants some Goji berries. Veg wise, am d
  6. Got myself a Logmaster 6 tonne dual split last December....rrp £599. Selling on Amazon at £285 + p&p. I know it's a little over budget, but I find it ideal, and couldn't find anything as good for less.
  7. May not be wholly relevant....but...when I looked after a collection of pheasants (ornamental & game), about the only plant or shrub that DIDN'T get trashed in the aviaries was the Christmas Trees. Pheasants now sold on, Christmas trees planted out in a small plantation......and the neighbours pheasants are almost always in amongst them.
  8. Thanks guys.....ought to say a bit more really I work on an estate in West Cornwall.....was 780+ acres, until the prevoius owners broke it up. Now down to 107 acres of gardens, streams, mixed woodland and fields. I TRY to look after it on my own, so don't have a great deal of time for much shooting, but when I do, it's air rifle or rim-fire. Bunnies mostly, some fox, mink, corvids (when they stay still long enough). Also go sea angling when I can, so hoping to learn/share knowledge in these areas. Dabble a bit in home brewed beers & wines, too! ATB Jay
