    if purely for hunting you wouldnt go far wrong with a hw99s, , 95 or 35. if you're wanting to do some hft or target shooting, you'd be better off with an underlever like the 77/97 or even the tx200 or pro sport. the pro sport is very accurate, but can be hold sensitive.

    i originally bought a 22 hw100 brand new. after a year i wanted to change calibers, so i put a thread up for a straight swap. i ended up swapping the action only and kept my stock, silencer and scope. i took the silencer straight off my 22 and fitted it to the 177 and haven't had any issues. this was a couple of years ago. great silencer and great gun too.

    simmons do scopes with some great quality glass in em. they would sell bucket loads if they started to make them with multi aim point rets. my mate had a whitetail classic. the glass was very good. i wouldn't buy one though because they only come with a 30/30 ret. its a shame. the same goes with the nikon scope which also has good glass in it. ive just picked up a bushnell eltie 6500 2.5-16x42 with mil dot ret up. it has side parallax. i cant fault it up to yet. i like looking at tree bark with it cos its like hd telly with the picture quality. great stuff.

    10.5 is plenty of power for hunting. as long as you can get the pellet to hit the right spot, it'll do the job easy.

    the mtc viper 10x44 is 150 quid new. thats excellent value for money when you consider you get proper metal flip ups, mounts, sidewheel parallax with sidewheel included, illuminated ret and a proper elasticated scope cover to protect your investment. when you tjink aboutit, its quite cheap for what you get. you get what you pay for. when i bought my first gun, i bought a brand new hw100 and was tight when it came to buying the scope. i thought a scop was just a scope, but its not. within a couple of weeks i went out and bought a better scope. so in the end i'd wasted 50quid on the cheapo s

    my 97kt is quite snappy. it's been tuned and is 177. its snappy, but very quick. as soon as i pull the trigger, it's gone. accurate as hell. it easily keeps up with my hw100 and mpr. all are 177. in fact, i seem to be a better shot with the springer over my pcp's. i think its cos i try harder because of the recoil. i'm lazy with a pcp because i know i can get away with it. springers are definatley the way to go if you want to improve your technique with a gun.

    first place was taken with a hw77 and 2nd place was taken with a hw97. 5 out of the top 10 were hw's. 10 out of the top 20 were hw's, 8 tx200's a walther lgv and a pro sport.

    if you're gunna be happy to shoot without a tune up, go for the tx. they're a bit better out the box. if you're planning on getting it tuned at a later date, go for the hw97. once tuned they are the best bar none.

    what a great day we had today at anston at the recoiling champs. we managed to raise over 800 pounds for cancer research. the woods looked stunning with the snow and we still managed to get around 70 people turn up even in the dreaded snow. hull cartridge gave away a brand new hw97kt synthetic in 177. the winner was well chuffed cos he'd recently ordered a tx200 and can now cancel the order. imo he ended up winning the better of the 2 guns and was very lucky indeed. aslo thanks to solware for their donation of an aim mat and other prizes and chris cundey who kindly donated over 300

    where do you get the carbon fibre wrap stuff from? i wouldnt mind doing my 97kt with it to protect the bluing on the underlever with cocking it all the time. i suppose a cocking aid would do the trick too. does anywhere sell cocking aids for 97's?

    i have 2 hawke tac30s. ones a 10x42 and the other is 4.5-14x42. both are great scopes. i mainly shoot on 10 mag, so prefer the 10x42. the half mil dot ret is very good. it sits nice and low to the action being only a 42mm too. i also have a viper 10x44. an absolute bargain for 150 new. you get mounts, flip ups,sun shade, illuminated ret, resettable target turrets, side parallax with 2" sidewheel and also a cloth scope cover to protect it all. the metal flip ups on the mtc scopes are the best flip ups about. loads better than the butler creeks. you can take the flip ups off and fit them to

    if you were to see and have a go with that 99s i got for my mate, you would have definatley wanted it. i have a hw97kt, which is a great gun. the 99s is a smaller gun so more snappy, but was so accurate. some of the chinese springers are nice. it's the triggers that let them down. they can be a bit crude and unpredictable. a good trigger helps no end when it comes to getting the best out of any gun.

    a proper work horse is the hw80. a very nice gun and was nearly the first ever gun i bought. in the end i thought sod it and went down the pcp route with a brand new hw100 in 22. another top gun. pound for pound hw guns do take some beating.

    try the cavendish gun club in mansfield mate. its lots better than woodend. it has a 60yard outdoor range, 20yard indoor, a good few acres of woodland, a great club house that sells excellent food too. give it a try.

    the hw99s is in a different class to the smk. it has a superb weihrauch barrel, they now come with a minelli stock, the rekord trigger, nice open sights. little tip. get the 99s. then save a bit more money and have the barrel cut and threaded so you can fit a hw silencer. it makes for and excellent sporter. the 99s is by far the best springer available in its price range. better than any bsa springer and will outshoot a lot of springers that cost way more to buy. cracking rifle. i dont own one, but my mate does. his has had the barrel job. ive told him if he ever comes to sell it, i'd buy

    i recently tried accupels in my hw97kt. i found the head sizes weren't very consistent. some were loose and didnt shoot very well. then others were a nice snug fit and shot very well. its a shame they arent all a snug fit. my 97 prefers any of the jsb variety. exacts, expresses, falcons and air arms fields. all in 4.52. it'll shoot through the same hole at sensible ranges if i do my bit.

    i shoot a lot of competitions. there's hw fans and tx fans. the tx is a great gun out of the box, but far from perfect. nearly every owner of a tx on the circuit has had theirs tuned or fitted a v mach kit. the reason being is they shoot much better with a properly fitted kit and a proper lube job. the same goes with the 97. if i were to just buy a springer for plinking or hunting and not interested in getting the very best out of my rifle, i would probably go for the tx. if i were thinking of getting it tuned to get the maximum performance out of it, i would go for a hw97. the new walther

    when you take into consideration that you get a walnut stock, 2 mags and a silencer chucked into the deal with a hw100, pound for pound the hw100 is proper value for money. it has a better trigger, flawless action with the sidelever. and you can fit a 1 piece mount.

    if i were to be offered a mint kt for 250, i'd snap it up straight away. i payed 440 for mine when they first came out. ive seen them as much as 500 for a brand new flagship adjustable wooden stocked model, so 250 is half price. imo the best springer on the market.

    that spectre of yours looks like a very nice piece of kit too si. you have some nice springers in your ever evolving collection. ive been thinking of getting a decent break barrel for a while now, but still cant make my mind up what to get. when it comes to springers, i'm a hw man through and through, so it'd be between to , 95 and 98. it' also have to be in 177 cos i'm now fully converted. strange cos i used to be 22 all day. if i were to get a 95, i'd have to put it in a custom stock to increase the weight and mellow out the snappiness. i dont mind having a heavy gun. it seems to help wh

    top shooting there. some excellent groups. the 97kt is an incredible springer capable of some serious accuracy. mine shoots just as well as any of my pcps. mines in the smaller calibre. the pro sport is a fantastic gun, but a properly tuned 97 is second to none.

    the hw99s all day. a great little gun. especially now its had a makeover. you will not find a better break barrel for the price.

    the best pcp that bsa do. the single shot model is accurate as hell. they should do the single shot in the se stock as well. it makes an excellent hft gun. a couple of lads at the club had one, then got rid of them for different guns. then realised the mistake they'd made and ended up getting another. funnily enough i had a go with one of the lads today. it shot great. i think the walnut se model is stunning to look at.

    i was the same as you pal. i was a hunter through and through. i aslo thought i was a pretty decent shot until i tried hft. that made me realise i had and still have loads to learn. its a great way to improve your shooting and rangefinding skills. its also great fun and has made me a better hunter as well.
