  2. I have a jill with quite a thint head and no matter how tight I make the collar the damn thing slipps off. My hob is ok as he has quite a big head and it stays on him. I have now lost a collar as the batteries must have died, cant get a locate on it but did not lose her. I have obviuosly ordered a new one but someone must have a trick to keep it on, cant go either digging to a collar or losing them all the time, please help!! steve
  3. thanks for replying Nicola, nice to see some are still willing to help a newbie. I will be trying to get those books when I get home. I have looked at your website in the past and you have some good looking dogs, especially your brown cocker, do you plan on having any cocker pups in the next couple of years or are you only breeding the springers?
  4. I am new to gundogs, as the title suggests, and will not be getting one until at least one of my great danes shrugs off the mortal coil. In the meantime I want to get as prepared as possible. I am going to see a gundog trainer in my area when I get back home, offshore at the moment, and will be trying techniques on my youngest dane, he needs more obedience training anyway and he does love to fetch dummies for me, but I would like to get some good reading material. Therefore my question is 'What are some good training books for gundogs'? Not just spaniels but for a wide range of gundog
  5. I am hoping that night and a good lamp will help because the gorse covers a very large area, too big for a long net I think but i am only guessing due to my obvious lack of experience
  6. my fell dog just will not play nice with the ferrets at all, my bitch is ok but hes a pain in the arse. tried taking it slow but to no avail. its a real shame cause he is the faster of the two and the only one who comes close to catching running rabbits but got to make sure i have hold of him if the ferrets are doing there thing.
  7. This rookie finally has something to post that i am not too embarassed about I am new to this ferreting lark, this is my first season, and the guy that I thought might show me the ropes is too worried about someone else stealing his permission so I am teaching myself. Its a lot harder than i thought but is starting to become very rewarding. My two ferrets, George and Mildred, have got there own personalities and spending time with them is more enjoyable than i thought it would be. On my first trip out with them I had ten nets, and a farmer that I know had told me of some rabbits not to fa

  9. The mrs has decided she wants some of the rabbit skins for the arms of the sofa's. I want some for the dogs dummies aswell, but i have no idea how to do it or what you need to do it. Can anyone help? Cheers Steve.
  10. Hello Meerihunter, yes they are the guys i got from you. brilliant beasties for temperament and staying power down those holes. Cant thank you enough. I think i will try harder to get them back on the rabbits, my wife finds it a lot easier to just give them ox heart when i am offshore as i bag it up into dinner sized amounts but i could just as easily do the same to a rabbit carcass. Greengrass, my terriers get BARF as much as possible. when the rabbits are plentiful then half each or a bundle of pork ribs from tesco's reduced section, otherwise it is skinners complete for working dogs in
  11. I am pretty new to this game but i love it. rain hail or shine i love it. My question regards the fact that the ferrets, one hob one jill brother and sister, will no longer eat the rabbits they catch. As they were both young they were not out catching them until recently so i started buying ox heart, lots of nutrients protien and fat, and cheep! The first rabbit i caught with them got gutted and chopped in two and one half put in that night. Two days later its still there so the dogs got it and the ferrets got heart, which they wolfed down! Have i spoiled them or what? I have tried s
  12. i put a post on another site about this very thing about a year ago. The advise I was given was simple. If your dog is getting bad eyes in the morning then change their bedding. If it is straw then complete change more often, if it is vet bed then wash more often. This simple advise worked for me, hope it works for you.
  13. did not know it was on but when the first lines were 'We are going to find it, kill it and then cook it' I thought this will do me!!

  15. well i have just got my first two ferrets from meerihunter and for the first two weeks they were only in a rabbit hutch and what a dull pair they were but now i have them in a decent sized court with things to climb on and tunnels etc. and what a difference. playful and fun for the kids and the terriers when they are chasing them around!

  17. totally agree about the fat people  more people are going to die frombeing porkers than smokers, its ok to ask a smoker to move away but ask a fat barsteward to move cause he/she is making you sick and you get dogs abuse
