I'm in Northamptonshire and rabbits are very low on the ground this year!
-
Opinel number 8, good size and not expensive.
-
Between them they had 13 kits. All gone to new working homes. I only have a litter(s) if I have homes for the majority of them already. I had to advertise a couple of them this year, but normally most years I have homes for all of them.
-
I have a litter of kits every year for the past 6 years and always leave the hob in with the Jill and kits, I have never had a problem with any of the hobs. The hob sometimes carries the kits about in the court but that's the only issue I've had. That doesn't seem to bother the Jill's though and they just pick the kits up and put them back. Perhaps I'm lucky and have good placid hobs... This year I had 3 litters and all were in together with the hobs and still I had no problem.

nah my jill will not work when its round the neck, she constantly trying to get it off (and usually did) when I put it behind her front legs she got straight to work. always work her like that now. its worth a try GR I have always used this method of putting the collar behind the front legs. I also often put my jills to ground without a collar on especially in small burrows with about 5 - 10 holes and if there is a lot of waiting drop in a hob and without fail he finds where the Jill's are.

They look good I might try something like that. At the mo I just thread rabbits on a length of webbing tie it and carry it on my shoulder. At the end of the day it costs you £2.50 max and out if that you can make 6-7 carriers...
-
Cheers TOMO, I had thought that, so I used straps which are adjustable so I can alter them to whatever length is most comfortable.
-
Here's the pics... Cheers jamie m if it works so easy to make, I paid £2.50 for 50ft of paracord and the strap if from an old bag. plus it's more enjoyable using something you have made!!! http://s820.photobucket.com/user/Ferret022/media/IMG_07111_zpsed2bbb1b.jpg.html This is one i made for my dad, he wanted as posh leather one for when he's picking up! just an bit cut off an old horse bridle. http://s820.photobucket.com/user/Ferret022/media/IMG_07131_zps3249127c.jpg.html

I have made my own carrier. i find when them carriers are full holding 12 - 15 rabbits it really digs into your shoulder so I've made one with a wide strap. I would upload a picture if I knew how to... :/

All the best with them mate, happy hunting!!!

If your really concerned I would suggest the vets, but one of my hobs lost pretty much all its hair off its tail last summer but all came back in the winter. Ferrets can loose condition on the summer especially if they have had a litter of kits.

That's great thanks.

Hi guys I've always admired taxidermy and think it looks brilliant but have never tried it myself. It is something I would like to get into but not sure where to start... Are there any good books you guys would recommend on getting started with guides on how its done? Thanks
-
It's simple, don't breed ferrets if your not going to keep them properly and have some people lined up for some so your not stuck if you have a large litter with only a few left to sell if you do. I've had my own strain of ferrets going for 6 years now and have at least a litter of kits a year and I don't do it to make money, if you earn a bit to go towards the ferrets upkeep it's great but I do it because I love having the kits, handling them and seeing them go off to their new homes or even staying with me and progressing into great little workers.

Just pm you back didn't realise you ha some kits, would be intrested in a albino hob. Cheers I have just pm'd you in regards to this mate

I use an opinel number 8. It's a nice size and only about a tenner. I also have leatherman but they are a lot more pricey!

Hi guys I have 4 hobs left of this year litter, 3 albinos and 1 polecat. They are now 10 weeks old. They were in a litter of 13, these are the only guys left, everyone wanted Jill's and a couple of hobs went. I have 8 ferrets as it is and I don't want to keep these and not be able to work them enough. Free to good homes. Please pm me for more details. I live in Northamptonshire, 5 mins from M1 junction 15. Thanks.

I use white vinegar and water mixed half and half in a spray bottle which you can get from a garden centre. It works well for me and is cheaper than flea spray off the shelf. Spray it on the ferret then rub it in good. Your ferrets smell like a vinegar soaked chip for the first few hours but they don't seem to mind and it works well.

I've had two ferrets, one hob and one Jill live till they were 14. Always sad to see an old friend go...

One of my ferrets had her front foot caught in a fenn trap which had been left down a rabbit hole obviously by some unsavoury character who shouldn't have been on the land. In removing it from the trap I took it straight to the vets where they concluded that amputation was the only option to save the ferrets life. Obviously the bill wasn't cheap but these creatures are not a throw away commodity and without them I would not be able to carry out the pastime which I am so fond of. Since the operation and now back on her feet (3) she is doing very well and Is still just as good a worker as she w
