  1. I think round where I am its got down to -5 at night, that's the lowest and generally between 3-6 during the day. Still alot more frosts than last year though. I was catching young all through last winter.
  2. Started a squirrel job last week in a back garden. Customer fed up of the little blighters taking bird food and digging holes in the lawn. Caught three so far. Got a mixture of fenn and catch alive traps out.
  3. Little job this morning on top of an air raid shelter. Customer seen two rabbits in their garden which had been rabbit fenced in. Got them out just in time the doe had started making a nest!
  4. What is the point of putting up a negative comment? god there are some right prats on here!!! generally people who spend too much time sitting in front of their computer on this forum rather than actually doing any work out in the field themselves! Good luck with the sale mate looks a nice pup and a good cross.
  5. I use steel pegs or wire them to a near by tree, fence post etc
  6. What a foolish uninformed woman! Just another do gooder who knows nothing!!!
  7. 1" heavy duty round rings. The last lot I got were from agouti. They are good strong rings.
  8. Hemp are great nets but have to be hung up and dried if the get wet because they do rot if not. That's the good thing with spun nylon they don't rot if left wet.
  9. Get out at first light on farmland but private gardens/ jobs have to start a bit later till the customers are up and out of bed unless they are happy for me to just crack on.
  10. One of my hobs (my favourite ferret that I've ever owned) is 8, he is blind the poor little chap. He has the same film on his eyes as you have mentioned. He started going blind about 8-9 months ago but copes fine, I just put my hand in front of his face before picking him up so he smells me and doesn't get startled.
  11. Nylon nets are cheap for a reason, they are useless. You get what you pay for with nets. I use spun poly nets and also put stop nets through the hedge saves so much time rather than netting each hole. Like the other chaps also said work with a dog so much more fun! If you want some good spun poly nets an old boy I know makes them and they are great nets I use them and can't fault them. Message me if your interested and I can get a price for you. Atb Jarvis
  12. I have a whippet/Bedlington. Perfect for me, picks up runners, holds rabbits in the nets and marks.I mainly work hedgerows so a collie type cross would be too big in my opinion to get into the tight spots my whippet/beddy does. I don't think mine is head strong at all its how you bring them up and if you master recall and walking to heel at a young age then your fine. I'm not saying that collie types are not good at all its just my opinion and what hunter 1 says horses for courses.
  13. Thanks guys for the advice much appreciated. I'll pm you moxy
  14. I've just got myself a cz 452 varmit 22 and I just wanted a bit of advice as far a bipods go. Any suggestionson a good one to get? Thanks Jarvis
  15. I've had a litter of one before mate, Nothing to worry about .
  16. That's alright mate, I'll put it down to your initial diagnosis!
  17. Good one SW. I've never seen it before... There was no blood and the skin wasn't pierced.
  18. Exciting times! I enjoy the husbandry of having a litter but for me the most enjoyable thing is seeing a kit you've produced from your own strain working for the first time and when they bolt their first rabbit and come out behind it have a look around then head back under for another!Great feeling!
  19. My two and a half week old litter.Just having the one litter this year, still enough to keep me busy though! looks like there is seven or eight of them... Both mother and father are albinos. M
  20. Quick question guys. what is this bald patch about on this moles back? is it where it has been scratched at by another mole or another critter? thanks Jarvis
  21. I've been getting the same problem, but I'm sure it was a ferral cat. had 10 rabbits taken with just the heads left in the space of a week. Caught the cat in the snare the second week, but checking the snares this morning spotted another one lurking about!
  22. I would imagine it's just the ferret malting loosing it's winter coat. it's the time of year for it and they loose a lot of their condition. My hobs go very thin and one of them looses his fur on his tail. But come winter it's back. But if you do get concerned and if in doubt take a trip to the vets.
  23. I only ever use fenn's but its down to preference really. As bunny boiler said I also attach posts to the side of trees at an angle and put a tunnel on them. I also make large boxes that to the untrained eye look like a bird box but house a fenn trap which is baited. Kania's are far to expensive in my opinion and for the price of one of them you could get about eight fenn mk 4's...
  24. They open their eyes at five weeks. I start handling kits at that age, others handle them from a day or two old, it's down to what works for you and also the temperament of the mother. If it's your first litter it's all to tempting to keep peeping into the nest of kits but try to refrain from doing it to regularly so not to disturb the mother. Have a look at the kits when you feed the mother so she is distracted and rub your hands in the shavings when handling the kits so not to get your scent on them. I've never had an issue with any of my kits being nasty because they haven't been handled f
