    Knock away pal. One thing I find is you have to time it right. Its no good going at the end of the season asking for permission because if you get it, go once and the don't turn up again until September it's easily lost. Go early on, August/September. Go a few times to get their trust and then hit the ground hard all winter. Even if you're not catching much kid on that you are. They'll see how keen you are and it usually leads to more permission, that's how its worked for me.     Same pal. Good coat, nose and prey drive but its horses for courses. A lot of people on here talking up the saluki but tbh I wouldn't touch one, however it all comes down to personal preference. Terrain and prey are the things you should think about most before considering buying or breeding any lurcher.

    I know this is a bit late of a reply on this thread but I know someone who's got some first cross Wheaten Grey pups ready to go now. There's two black dog pups left, £200 in Keighley, North Yorkshire. PM me if you are interested and i can pass his details on to you.

    I picked up First x Wheaten grey pup off a fella in north Yorkshire a couple of weeks ago. There from a game keeper kept working wheaten stud put to an ex track racing greyhound bitch. I'm looking forward to it growing up to see what it can do. Early signs are its a fiery little sod! There are a couple of black dog pups left in case anyone's looking for one, coincidentally they're the biggest in the litter as well.

    Got myself a bedlington/whippet x collie/greyhound pup back in January and can not wait for the season to start so I can get him out. Trying to hold him back and stop myself starting him too young but find myself watching videos of coursing on you tube and getting over excited. Anybody else in the same boat and if so what dog are you running? I'll try and get a picture up soon

    It all depends on the dog in my opinion. Some dogs can handle it and some cant regardless of the breed. I personally hate having to hit my dog. Only done it once when he ran off and wouldn't come back (was nearly ran over in the process!) Regretted it soon after but it was heat of the moment and he's been bang on since. Most training you can do with tone of voice though

    Why buy a dog your not sure about in the first place? Think about what you want, what you need it to do then buy the appropriate dog!! It's not rocket science! I wanted a good all rounder so I just got myself a pup off a bedlington/whippet sire and a collie/greyhound dam. He's only a pup but a dog will only do what you ask or train it to do, so if he fails its MY fault!

    Thanks for the replys guys. I found a dog in the end, its a bedlington/whippet x collie/greyhound. The only thing is I forgot how much work a six week old puppy is lol

    My brothers currently running a bedlingtonxwhippet and shes a smashing little dog, really starting to come on. Think I will have to consider some sort of beddy cross however crossed whippet they are a bit small, his only stands 19" and looks like a strong wind could blow it over, good ferreting though

    I do like that cross but I am struggling to find any pups. That sounds like a good dog Daz but its the deerhound that puts me off as they are a really large dog. Looking for something around 25/26"tts, as I will have it in the house all the time due to dogs being stolen in the area before.

    I had a 24"tts whippet a few years back and he could do the lot. Very able well mannered dog but like any other, their only as good as the time/effort you put into training them. Highly reccomend a bigger one though but thats just my opinion

    I'm after some advice on a good all round lurcher. I've had a variety of dogs in the past but I'm looking at getting a lurcher after some time away from the sport. I'm favouring a whippetxcolliexgreyhound mix as I have had success with these in the past. However I am struggling to find a pup by this description and was wondering what some of you are using. Oh and I'm not interested in a bull x which seem to be the 'in' thing atm. Any suggestions/experiences greatly appriciated
