Had just oiled the stock on my rifle, and she said " you're always messing with that bloody gun, we never do anything together". I handed her a cardboard target and told her to go and stand at the end of the garden, and hold it out to one side, but keep very still... She called me a sarcastic f*cker.. You just can't win...

Quick Question Shotcount(Hw100Kt)
Mister Gain replied to MickHowes's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
I have the HW100KS (same gun, different stock) in .22, and I can empty 5 x 14 shot magazines whilst in the 'green zone', so, 70 shots total. HTH. -

I worked on the railway for 37 years, most as a freight train driver, and my medical with regard to vision was the Schnellen chart for distance, reading a series of paragraphs which had progressively smaller typeface, held 14 inches from your face, and the colour blindness booklet. Also had a few other tests like the hearing where you put the headphones on and press the trigger when you hear a noise, urine test for protein (diabetes) etc. I wore corrective glasses for over 25 years, (they actually issued us with prescription safety glasses) and if there was any change in my eyesight at any sub

Need An Answer Quickly, How Long Do I Boil Haggis For?
Mister Gain replied to Brewman's topic in General Talk
I like black pudding but I feckin love hogs pudding. Only had hogs pudding once and recall it was good. I did try to replicate it one time but it never even came close. -
Back in the early 1980's, I had just finished my shift and was driving home about 1 o'clock in the morning. The route I took was along a road with very poor lighting, mainly due to the cemetary wall and tall trees on one side. Occasionally there would be a car parked up and usually a couple would be getting 'friendly', so I used to drive along on sidelights and if there was a car parked up I would light up the full beam when I was close and watch them panicking trying to straighten themselves up as I drove past pissing myself laughing. I did it this particular morning and it turned out to be

Need An Answer Quickly, How Long Do I Boil Haggis For?
Mister Gain replied to Brewman's topic in General Talk
I've made plenty of black pudding in the past, but must say I've never heard of 'king ribs' before. Just been trying to find a recipe for it by googling, unsuccessfully I might add. I shall persevere though, wouldn't mind giving it a try. -

I eat that as well, provided the steak is rare. In fact there's not much I don't eat. Wouldn't fancy those fetal duck eggs though.. -

When I used to get a lamb from the woman at the smallholding I always used to ask for the pluck. She always pulled a face I used to send off for a haggis mix from Scobies in East Kilbride. Didn't use a stomach or ox bungs as it was only for me, used to use a synthetic casing, and it didn't detract from the flavour at all, and, haggis freezes very well, so 1 batch would last me 6 months or more.. nectar of the gods Always used to have one straight away.. -
Nik_B, I have a slicer but prefer to cut with a knife. That way you get differing thickness, so you get the meatiness and some crispiness.. Beautiful stuff. I do use a commercial organic bacon cure for more consistent results though, it's not expensive given the end result. I like the taste of commercial bacon but don't like the shrinkage or the plappy watery brine seepage, tends to steam the rashers.

Yes mate, belly every time for bacon. Long back is good as well, that's the loin still attached to the belly. Found the loins on their own didn't have enough fat on them for my taste. Used to buy half a pig from a smallholder and produce all wonder of delicious things. Ham, lomo, brawn, pork pies, faggots, salami, sausages etc. Had to cut it right back though, unsurprising health issues . Also used to buy the occasional lamb, and insist on getting the pluck to make haggis.

I might try that. Bacon I find it almost impossible to get bacon from the supermarket crispy. The only bacon I will buy is from our local farm all the rest produces that white scum no matter how hot I get the pan. Nik_B... This is the result. This was a bit on the lean side, but that's how they tend to breed pigs nowadays. Best bacon I've made was from the pigs cheeks, then BBQ'd and sliced thick, put between 2 slices of fresh crusty bread with picalilly

I'm with Tiercel..... make your own dry cured bacon, so easy... none of that white brine sh1t in the pan, doesn't shrink to f*ck all.. commercial bacon is pumped with brine to bring in the bucks. Once you have done your own you won't eat that crap again.. Lovely stuff.

Agree with that Can't help but feel that the story doesn't quite ring true though. If plod believed him to be armed, then they would have had the taxi under close surveillance. If Duggan had thrown the gun out of the window just prior to stopping, surely it would have been noticed. If he had lobbed it away after he got out, again, it would have been seen. The armed police would surely have had their weapons drawn and trained on him. Did he have a weapon drawn? did he go to draw a weapon? If that were the case, and I don't mean to speculate, then he would have been taken out no argument. I do

Reckon you're bang on there Max, I left school at 15 in 1969, and on the way home popped in a shop and asked if any jobs... start monday LOL. Did that for a couple of months, manager took the piss so told him to poke it. Walked down the road a few yards and went into another shop, same thing, start next day. Was offered a job with the GPO as a telegraph boy (on the mopeds), declined it and went as a messenger with a travel agents. In Dec 1970 I joined the railway as a junior, just approached a station manager and he set up an interview.. voila... then in 72 became a secondman and then on to fr

. Nope. Llandegfedd Reservoir used to be pretty famous for its pike fishing, don't know about now though. They used to get a few pike over 40lbs.

Yep, Enoch could see the bigger picture right enough, if an MP made a statement along those lines nowadays they would be hauled across the coals for it.. He even had the foresight to refer to '...the immigrant descended population'. These are the ones born here and refer to themselves as British, which brings to mind something Bernard Manning said many years ago.. "just because a dog is born in a stable doesn't make it a f**king horse" It has been a slow process, but seems to be gathering momentum at an alarming rate. We're already seeing the effects of what Enoch was trying to put across

I use the Hawke LRF 400, can't fault it. In the specification it states :- Error in measurement: +1m +0.1% Just looked on the Deben site and it looks like they do an upgraded version (with an upgraded price) HTH.

This is due in the main to the 'human rights / political correctness' that is blighting general common sense. A pal sent me an email a while back which just about sums it up:- There's an annual contest at Bond University, Australia calling for the most appropriate definition of a contemporary term. This year's chosen term was "political correctness". The winning student wrote:- "Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and promoted by mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a piece of s
