  1. Years ago I read that a heron would only wade to the depth of it's legs, which I always took as gospel because I had never seen one do otherwise, but this morning I saw this one in the River Quaggy, and it obviously hadn't read the script. Once again sorry for the poor quality image.
  2. We are inundated with snails and slugs around here, vet said it is a heart/lungworm hotspot, and I saw this slug this morning, back end on the pavement and front end up like a cobra. Never seen one like that before. Poor photo taken with crappy phone.
  3. Terrific game, well done Wales, a well earned victory.
  4. Hope it all comes together for the Welsh, it would be nice to watch a good game tonight.
  5. Even though it was October when I went it was still quite hot and sunny, and everyone squeezed onto the part of the terrace which was in shadow, which made the place look half empty. Oh, and you was allowed to smoke then as well.
  6. I went to a bullfight with the future wife back in October 1974 at the Plaza De Toros, Alcudia, Majorca. Looking back I now feel it was put on with tourists in mind. The bulls were young, not the big beefy fcukers you generally associate with bull fighting. Seem to recall there was 4 fights (could be wrong though) and all in all I wasn't impressed, felt quite sorry for the young bulls at the time. That said, I agree with bird that it's part of their history and culture and as such should be preserved. Personally I wouldn't attend another one. I dug out a few (very poor) photos.
  7. Those bigger rabbits don't have to be dog or ferret food, you can still use and eat them. The secret is that you have to remove the silver membrane from each muscle, and any tendons, time consuming and a bit fiddly but well worth it for the result, I do the same with pheasant legs. Smallish cubes are a welcome addition to Cajun jambolia. I have minced the meat to make chilli con 'cony' (see what I did there ), spaggy bol etc. Also, minced and mixed with fat belly pork it makes excellent sausages, burgers and Italian style meatballs. Saddle meat can be used instead of chicken to make a Thai g
  8. Am I the only one who wasn't surprised by the result? With the penalty we were gifted a base to build on, fcuk me that didn't last long did it. Joe Hart should throw those gloves away, they've got fcuking great big holes in them. Despite conceding that the inevitable was going to happen I watched it up to about 5 minutes into the second half. Then the night got better, I went outside into the garden and relaxed with a nice bottle of Italian red. Didn't see the result till this morning and was pleased to see we only lost 2-1, I was half expecting Iceland to score 1 or 2 more. Got to give it t
  9. Got to agree about the dust when working with iroko, I find it really aggressive if it gets past the face mask, also, the silica content can sometimes be really high and you can actually see the sparks when running it through the table-saw or band-saw and dulls the teeth really quickly, but yes, looks lovely when oiled.
  10. If England lose against Iceland tomorrow I'll start an E-Petition to have it replayed until we get the result we want, Now where have I heard that over the last few days
  11. Enjoyed the grit and determination shown by ROI, but as Wilf says, France were different class. Didn't think the Irish lads would hold them off as long as they did TBH. Well done. I'm only saying that cos I married a Fitzpatrick
  12. Hillary Benn's husband, Mr Benn doesn't seem perturbed by her dismissal.
  13. Iceland may be the smallest country but they have got through their group stage on their merit, there have been a few surprises in this tournament already, and I am enough of a realist to know that anything can happen in any game. It's got to be a big "well done" to Wales, NI and ROI to get through their groups, it's just a pity one of them will leave the tournament today. In all my years I have seen some very good England teams, but also some very bad ones, so in my recent years I just watch these tournaments in the hope of seeing some entertaining football, that is my only expectatio
  14. Wow, spooky, I was reading this topic in the General Airgun Discussion and when I had finished I was in General Talk. THL time travel
  15. Whenever I hear Ronnie Lane's The Poacher it always evokes memories from 1974/75 when I was courting the wife. Reason being I always dragged her off fishing at the weekend. She was there when I had my first barbel, first chub, first 3lb+ bream, first 3lb+ tench. I can picture her now sitting on the ground, propped against a tree in a thick haw frost, with a red nose and cheeks whilst wearing a sheepskin. I didn't have a car so it was first bus or first train and Shanks's pony. What a fcuking courtship for a girl of 17 PMSL https://youtu.be/gqQRphZtv1M
  16. Not me mate, with my distant Scottish ancestory I've been sat here for 2 weeks in front of the tele wearing my tartan 'Tam o'Shanter' and wrapped in my flag of St Andrew waiting to root for Scotland, I'm sure they'll be along soon.
  17. Out, and the wife will be voting out tonight. I've just bumped in to a bloke aged about 72, whilst walking the mutt, who was walking 2 of his Bichon's and asked him if he'd voted and he said he wasn't going to bother and that he never bothers to vote as he'd never make a difference. He always has a moan about how the area is degenerating since it became multicultural, and he has a couple of granddaughters and despite trying to convince him to vote for his grandchildren's sake he still maintained he wouldn't bother. So not only are we up against the foreigners, we have apathy as well.
  18. I've just been to vote, and will walk back round tonight when the wife gets home. I've not spoken to one person round here who wants to remain, but I fear there is a stumbling block. As I was entering the hall I passed foreigners coming out who were not speaking English, a scruffy pair of dark greasy fcukers who obviously hadn't washed for some time.. We are saturated with loads of eastern europeans round here amongst others. Wonder how they will vote
  19. I built a smoker from a 2 drawer filing cabinet. I wanted it for both hot and cold smoking. I use the ProQ with oak dust for cold smoking getting a 10-11 hour smoke from one filling. It actually makes Edam cheese edible . I use a baking tray or a 'home fashioned' metal tray with American White Oak planings, and I like the nuttiness it imparts, also I have quite a bit of it as I put down a solid oak floor (in the house ) some years back which I prepared from rough boards The smoker has a metal flap which I lower to cover the burner for cold smoking, obviously lifting the flap and clipping i
  20. Make her a nice cup of cocoa and add plenty of ex-lax. A crafty fart during the night then turns into a bit of a panic.
  21. Took this last week, not the best photo as it was under a covered pergola with dappled light due to the grape vine. Every time I got within about 2ft the spider would leave it's meal and run away, but it was feeding for well over an hour, after which time it cut the bee free and let it drop onto the table beneath.
  22. I got one when they first came out, certainly innovative at the time, then they brought out a new model with a higher retrieve ratio but it tended to impart a lot of line twist because of the speed. I used mine for all my stillwater fishing and also for running a waggler through on slower rivers, but went over to the Abu 501 and 506M closed faced reels, which were IMO better for running a stick through on the slightly faster rivers because of that little bit of friction when the line was rubbing the cup as it came off the spool, was also a bit better in a headwind provided you kept an eye on t
  23. See quite a few when I walk the dog in the early hours around here (near to Yorkshire Grey/McDonalds and Sutcliffe Park, Eltham). Nothing unusual to see 5-6 whilst walking around. Saw 5 one morning on Eltham Green last winter, and some are really brazen, I've had them come over to within about 15-20 feet of me, the dog goes loopy. Had one follow us one morning and over mark every place my dog had pissed. Railway embankments are popular places for them to earth, I used to be a freight train driver based at Hither Green and used to see loads especially during the night. Even bowled over a dog a
  24. Well fcuk a duck, unbelievable.
