Serbia recently introduced visa-free travel, to encourage tourism. What they've actually encourages is Hajjis to pile their families onto a cheap flight to Belgrade, then shlepp their way across Europe, doubtlessly causing havoc, as they go !

To everyone else who's shared their stories, thank you. When you're not ill yourself, but an illness encroaches in your life, it's very easy to feel alone, like you're the only one. The good Lady and I have felt pushed to desperation ourselves, but we've found great support from people who are walking in the same shoes as us. The greatest help we've found is simply having someone to talk to ! If you know someone who is a sufferer, don't t be afraid. You don't need any specialist understanding, or technical training..........you just have to be able to care !

I'm not one for sharing the intimacies of my family's lives, but I'll make an exception, for this subject. One of my stepsons suffers from bipolar affective disorder ("manic depression")..............and 'suffer' is the right word ! He tends to be dominated by the depressive phase, but the lead up to it is usually a period of increasingly obsessive and manic behaviour. Then, he's bought crashing down by one of life's little knocks, that most of us would simply shrug off. His life is a constant tightrope walk, always teetering on the edge of calamity. Wouldn't give any of my dogs any of that cr4p ! I've got 7, from a Beddy Whippet, down to the good Lady's 3 chihuahuas - all of them turn their noses up at any commercial food. Raw fed all their lives, and always will be !

I add plain mixer, leftover bread, brown rice, chopped apple or shredded green veg........anything to vary their diet a bit, really.

She was an old lady, so perhaps she meant the previous Duke ? She spoke of him in glowing terms. Used to go to Belvoir Castle when I was a kid........

Pimm's over a game of croquet, surely ? Bit of a tangent, but a true story....,..... Last season, I helped a mate out on his shoot, and I got chatting to a lovely elderly lady. She told that she'd once been beating, many years ago,, and met "a delightful chap, absolute gentleman", who she chatted to a few times through the day. Afterwards, she asked her husband if he knew who the man was. He replied "That's the Duke of Rutland."

On the farm where my club shoots, my Beddy Whippet mooches around the yard and buildings afterwards, while we drink tea and chat..............he usually comes back with a rat or two, over a couple of hours. I put it down to his natural agility - he can twist and turn on a sixpence ! -
Having said that, I watch the the odd episode of The Apprentice now and then. It's the best comedy going - absolutely hilarious !
