  6. great explanation do you not use a differant whistle for hunt command I use the same 210.5 whistle but with longer slower peeps. Lee
  7. Hi The commands I use for my dogs are: one peep on whistle to stop - sit the dog. when the dog is sitting I use GET-ON ( left or right ) with hand signal. hand raised in the air and with a flick of the arm ( voice command GO BACK ) slow peeps on whistle with hand directions to hunt or ( highlost voice only ) to send out for retrieve: Back my recall is peep-peep peep-peep hope this helps ( if it makes sense ) Lee
  8. No two dogs are the same, if they look fat cut down the food by 20-30% if they look thin increase food by 20=30%. I feed the Barf diet & check my dogs weight every week, when out of hunting season they dont get fed one day a week, this helps rest the digestive system.

  12. Thanks very much tryed the first advice today and got a good result. She still runs out a little bit but shees just a pup. Thanks again. Andrew Hi Andrew The first 6-12 months should be all play training, basics should be 100% before rushing into more serious training, 2-3 yrs to train a dog to field trial standards, 2-3 minutes to ruin one. don't rush any training, let them have their puppy hood. basic training should involve: recall by voice & whistle, sit, walking to heel on the lead, then with lead around neck as previous posts, always using the command Heel or whate
  13. I would not give treats to the dog after retrieving as this can cause the dog to spit the dummy ready for his treat. good luck Lee
  14. Hi Sean don't rush him he is only 7months & still very much a puppy, it takes 2-3yrs to fully train a lab but only 2-3 minutes to ruin one. I don't start training my young dogs until they are 7-12 months old. All the best Lee swingtip-gundogs
  15. Be very careful not to over treat the dog or he may start spitting the dummy ready for his treat, causing another problem. I would stop all training, just take him to the toilet & back to kennel/ house for a week (no running about) then after a week take him out to a field & get him really exited by teasing him with a dummy, throw it & let him chase, when he picks the dummy run/walk away in the opposite direction, not calling him or making any noise (by calling him it could be stopping him picking the dummy),he should come running back to you hopefully with dummy in mouth.praise wit
  16. I totally agree, I have a Lab bitch due to whelp in 2 weeks her pups will have 40+ FTCH/FTW in their pedigree. imho these should go to trialing homes, why pay top dollar for a good rough shooting dog that you don't want to trial or breed from. you can pick up dogs without papers for £200 - £300 that will work as good as if not better than a top pedigree dogs that you will pay between £500 - £1000 for. Horses for courses as they say. Just make sue the sire & dam have had thier health checks Lab: hips & eyes. Lee swingtip gundogs
