Empty casserole dish that day then eh ! -
You dont put them in the bag with a paceless dog,a dog needs to be fast just to get to the back of one of them, saluki's must have the most deceiving running style of all running dogs, but slow they most certainly are not

Potentical, what the hell is that some sort of mutant tellytubby lol Funny that!!!!!!!!!! You know good northern humour when you see it BORDERSCOT,serious business we're in these days, but good to see we can all have a bit of an end of season laugh,THEY CAN TRY TO RUIN OUR SPORT BUT THEY WILL NEVER RUIN OUR SEASON ATB TO EVERYONE FOR NEXT SEASON

Used to run a first cross out of thorn from this line,in the mid 90's,forget about a dog being too tall he was 30 inch tts,and could run well even in confined horse paddocks, also a handy dog for a long slip on a nice big arable field ,be nice to see some bred like they used to be,sure they would become popular again, not for serious rabbit hunters, but for allround day/night work, they were a more than welcome option, this line certainly did'nt have to be 18 months plus to do the job

Works well for hare aswell, just use about 1 heaped teaspoon of salt in the water, leave overnight, the meat turns lighter in colour, think it is the high blood content that causes the gamey flavour, salt must draw it out

I remember seeing a report on the news, think the first one was in january 2011 then again in jan 2012,saying that the country had the highest deer population for one thousand years, dont think it mentioned any species in particular, but did estimate that around 100,000 deer should be culled annually to manage the situation

seen 3 hares hitting the same rabbit hole in one day seen hares hitting under a tin shed week in week out They must have been getting some stick on that land, also if any farm machinery like a plough has been left out in the corner of a field,a hare will use this to it's advantage to throw the dog off, sometimes fatal for the dog particularly on the lamp,I remember one time watching a course on a fen video a hare ran straight towards a telegraph post long before the dog put any pressure on so they definitely know what they're doing,i've also seen a hare sit and wait for the dogs to get near th -

I remember once hearing that the Irish hares were'nt very fast, well if that was'nt fast I dont know what is,in 20 seasons of coursing in england I only ever saw 1 hare go to ground, just wondering does this ever happen in ireland, also is the Irish hare the same as the blue mountain hare -

I remember when I got my first lurcher 20 years ago, there was 6 and 7 month old pups catching hares, mostly but not all on the lamp, road work ,fitness training and winter hares, were terms that had'nt started being used back then, how times have changed, and for the better I say,a lot more thought goes into the game these days -

Some very sound advice on here for you Tom,as well as a nice offer,as far as letting ferreted rabbits go for your dog, that is personal choice, but I would say let your dog run and catch them fair and square on their own territory ,time flies and come september you should see what it's all about atb with the young un -

I took my pup out to watch his mother run a few rabbits when he was 4 months old,the bitch put a hard strike in as the rabbit got near the hedge, she missed, but as the rabbit ran alongside the hedge towards me and the pup,the little fella did'nt make the same mistake,he was only supposed to be a spectator and was on a lead,I allowed the pup a chance to run with the bitch that same night on one rabbit, just to see what he would do,when the bitch stopped at the edge of the field, the pup jumped into the rough cover and managed to catch the rabbit,I,m certainly not saying you should start them so y -
Very easy for a less than interested Turnip head to get their hands on a dog,run it without bothering to put any thought into the dogs fitness, then throw the towel in,when they realise the time and effort required to have a decent dog,You dont run a marathon to get fit!

Supposedly a cross between the old herding dogs used by drovers and a greyhound,if you can go back in time a couple of centuries you might be able to find one
