    what dog was put to Lucy to get your bitch, was she good bitch Never knew who the sire was,she was about 3 year old when I got her,she'd been passed around before that,ability wise she was nothing special,but she was always determined on any quarry,she did produce some handy pups out of my Irish lady bred dog,only ran them on northumberland and durham fields,so dont know if they would have made fen dogs or not

    lovely to watch that bitch lucy although i only watched her on film. The owner came across as a modest man a good sportsman. I think Lucy was one of the first saluki crosses to produce some real good pups in the north east,like hammy's nancy runner up in the 1997 forley cup,personally I always thought nancy was the real winner,but had to be withdrawn through injury

    Good sportsmanlike point of view Fretwell 59,you're obviously not from the 3/3 school of thought,had a run this afternoon with my 7 year old dog,went out of sight for well over 5 minutes,could tell he'd had a good run when he came back,god knows how many times that one had escaped the lampers,good breeding stock and all the best to it ,and the other one that legged it off the field,they look strong considering the arable crop has totally failed in this area

    good post,but the last line sticks out to me as that is why i do it for fun i enjoy it. it ain't a contest i may or may not have good dogs but if i'm out enjoyin myself it's all good & while like anyone else i like to get a few it ain't a necessity & it's a good job round here lol but that don't make the dogs any better or worse than anyone else's & as you say long may it continue I'm 49 in July Pritch and if the next 20 years goes past as quick as the last 20 I'll be knocking 70 before I know it...scary thought...so I'm just going to enjoy it all for what it is and my dogs

    Very easy for a person with no prior knowledge of dogs or the countryside to buy a ready to run lurcher,go walking round the fields chasing anything that moves,run the poor dog until it's close to heart failure,threaten any farmer/landowner that comes near them,then decides the dog is shit and so is hunting,is it any wonder the genuine dog men/women get tarred with the same brush,Good post BORDERSCOT i've had 6 dogs in 20 years

    The first crosses i saw run we're mid 90's doxhope bred dogs out of the deerhound Thorn,They ran as well as they looked,it's surprising to hear how some of the deerhound bred stuff is'nt working fox,some of the doxhope 1st crosses we're exported to america to be worked as coyote dogs,I remember it was around the time when the breeding of this line was coming to an end that the fen coursing was becoming popular and the first of the top notch saluki bred stuff was becoming available up here in the north east,almost overnight the price of a lurcher pup rocketed to £350-400,and these lines are sti
