  2. Still waiting to see the private keep out signs, dont suppose you are taking these pictures on a phone are you, remember seeing on the regional news about a big time rambo fan going missing with a mixed pack of game providers, that was'nt you ,was it
  3. Was having a look in darcy's coursing book, and i saw C W mention fly was out of irish lady, hard to keep track, how's the bitch in pup doing captain, hope everything is going well,I was walking across a pasture field lastnight and my 10 year old dog put a fit one up you should have seen it ears flat body lowered flat out lol
  4. It's hard to keep up with all of these coursing bred dogs, was there two bitches named fly that came from the Irish/english bred dogs
  5. Know what you mean K C, I've been fascinated with hares since the first time I saw one explode out of the stubble as I walked towards the sand dune rabbit burrows with my box full of ferrets, that was 21 years ago,and that vision has never left me,got my first lurcher the year after and never missed a season,I've seen some real weird things with hares since then, including watching a hare lie down on october stubble,as me and two other lads made our way back home with four tired lurchers and a mad keen nuttall terrier, they were all off the lead and were going mad with what they could smell, but
  6. Was just thinking when I started coursing 20 years ago,the saluki crosses were a new type, and a bit of a mystery really, there was one person up here in the north east that bred a litter and claimed the pups would be 3/3 dogs anywhere in the country, there was one well populated place with small fields, and there was and i believe still is a little whippet racing track just to the side of these fields,Ihave caught a lot of hares on this place, and I know a lot of other people that have caught hares there, but none of us ever managed to catch one single hare in the daytime, one of the dogs was a 3/4
  7. Never ran on the big land myself, but I recently watched some footage of a greyhound running a fen hare,I thought the dog was never going to get on terms with the hare, took a long time and the dog was flat out,so it does go to show how deceiving the big land game is when you're watching on the dvd's,like I've said before hares certainly are'nt slow, and if you watch how some almost pure salukis keep their hares from getting in the cover, they cannot be any slouches either
  8. shes five now kc this february just gone..she had a great mouth on her .just like her mother As long as she did'nt have mother in law's disease
  9. Had an myself, always thought it was pointless to have such a big and heavy gun as a 12 foot pounder,I would say get it on your ticket, and get some venison in your freezer
  10. Thanks, I'll keep posting and reading...learnt loads already! yeah good point! Dont take too much notice of anything you read on here P,we just make stuff up,and take the pish out of eachother
  11. Make sure there are no mice around before you let her off the lead,or you may be collared,I hear they are really getting heavy on the mouse poachers lately
  12. Cheers captain I thought she was out of the same litter as glider and inny
  13. She was Irish lady x a pure saluki called sonny, and was bred by chalkie white, not sure but I think she might have been sent over to ireland at some time
  14. Thought I was going to see the floor contents of someone's dog pen when I read the title ,the merlin and eve bloodline does produce a distinctive type, the light coloured heavy coated dogs like seagull, nipper dont know if there is many pups produced these days that still throw back to this type, but if you saw one you would know what line it was from
  15. I think a lot of it had to do with the fen coursing videos, people seeing the saluki lurchers catching well, and a good running style to watch, especially the faster types,it became fashionable to have saluki crosses, now people are running them all over the country not just on open land, also when B.D. stopped breeding, that might have had a big effect on the quality of the deerhound crosses available,as they were a good line
  16. don't get to exited most pure salukis don't cut the mustard, they just lack that little bit extraAnd what is that little extra ???Greyhound blood isn't added to the saluki for the sake of it. It works. And works well I know i have the proof here. But im talking about dogs used purely for the fen. Most coursing men say you should always breed back to the saluki not the greyhound. why breed back to any?... if i was running a fen dog id breed it back to a fen dog not a pure It's quite common in any line regardless of breeding to go back to a pure now and then, good way of bringing some fr
  17. Would that be cowpat or pat butcher

  20. Nothing like a lurcher and a private sign, that's some nice permission you've got there,no one would ever suspect you with that little ankle biter in tow, think I might have to get myself one
  21. Real shame to hear of a young dog being taken by this cruel disease,I lost my old bitch at the start of the year to cancer, and I had a run in with the big c myself quite recently,I hope this has'nt put you off acquiring another runner, you sound like the type of person that can provide what a dog needs all the best and keep looking forward mate
  22. Best of luck to you millet,i'm still waiting to get a reply for some leghorn bantams in the n.e.area,think I might have to settle for some marans hens, where are the poultry men when you need them
  23. My mate used a blue eye for a while years ago,i think it was a bit of a gimmick really, they're supposed to cut through the fog,but who wants to lamp when it's foggy, another lad had a black eye lamp and that was a real good lamp 400,000 cp,with a nice tight beam,i've tried lazer/blazerlight's,blitz,strikers and a few others but the best by far was the prolight 1.5 million cp
  24. Nothing wrong with a bit of weight on a growing dog, infact a good few lurcher owners like to see their dogs flesh out a bit during the closed season,I still like to keep my dogs at least half fit during spring/summer,but it's good to see their condition changing as the season gets closer.and you give them, that bit of conditioning, she'll be a nice age to get going in september, all the best with her mate
