  1. Mine did it four times and as iddles says they harden up after a while. They are a bit smaller now as well I gave mine a week and he was fine running again although i laid off the work for a bit longer
  2. I have a saluki cross that ran a mile every time i let him off the lead I've had him for a 2 years now. I called him back every time he went too far and gave him cooked liver and loads of praise when he returned hes a lot better now but I wouldn't say hes perfect. He can still bugger off but hes pretty good when hes on the lamp

  4. Millie Saluki X Grey took her first Rabbit on the Lamp the other day
  5. You'll be lucky to find a decent 12 - 24 month old dog at this time of year
  6. My general experience has been a good one at SLD There are a few who do take it a bit too seriously I tend to go along to give the dogs a good run. I'm not too bothered by a 25 pence rosette
  7. sorry not been on for a while www.sussexlongdogs.org.uk and yes they do take day entries and as Cupid STunt points out there are a few wankers but most are a very good crowd.... I put myself in the wanker category
  8. Well done snatch !! Good call Marko ... I started my pup on the lamp last night at 11.5 months old. Two bunnies one nice healthy one and another with a bit of Mixy off of 4 runs. Although all of my retieve training seemed to go out the window. Back to the drawing board on that one !!

  12. Mines 10 months and I have not started yet Bit of free running and pavement work should start the muscle devlopment and some good raw meaty food should do the trick
  13. Not tried them boiled ...
  14. I have fed with no ill effects I believe they carry quite a few worms so keep up to date with ur worming I have heard you should not feed trotters though
  15. Never had any probs myself. They do better with other dogs as company. They can run-off and 'hunt' for a while but they always come back. That said they are pretty predictable, I always know mine will run off to certain rabbit warrens. N.B Skycat is dead right these dogs NEED to run. I have a 50:50 grey saluki cross and she comes back.
  16. be careful feeding breast of lamd to a young dog. start with something a little easier to manage chicken wings have a good fat protien and bone ratio. I gave my Saluki X Grey 10 months old a medium sized lump a couple of weeks ago and she manged to swallow a big lump of bone. She then proceeded to puke the whole lot up accross the dining room (the wife was not amused) and was ill for a day or so. My older dog is fine with breast or lambs neck he takes his time to chew!!
  17. I would call Jim Greenwood. I had a few agression problems with my saluki cross, I added a post to the forum and the only suggestion i got on the site was my dog was Gay? Thinking there had to be more to the problem i called Jim Greenwood I explained the details of my problems he gave me some starter tips. As alot of the people have commented a lot of my problem was about being pack leader. Good luck
  18. Hi there Got a rescue about a year and a half ago saluki X. He was quite timid when we first got him but he enjoyed playing with other dogs, although he did seem to have a bit of a fear of larger dogs. We got a 12 week old bitch in December and socialise them really well with other dogs. Couple of months ago my wife stopped taking them to the dog park (too much with the kids) this left them just going out in the evening with me not many dogs to socialise with. We met a dog the other day and both of them started to course this dog biting its arse etc... I was pretty shocked. All tha
  19. I have two saluki crosses a rescue dog about 3 years old very timid when we first got him taken a year and a half to get him sorted, he really improved when we got another saluki cross pup now 9 months old. We are now at the point where we is starting to swing the other way and can be a little over-dominant especially when our bitch is around. On that note anybody have any good tricks for stopping them from packing up? They scared that shit out of a couch potato lab the other day (wide as it was long)
  20. I use saluki crosses They do not tire easily, over a mile you will not find a faster dog. Over short distances they cannot match the speed of a Grey or Whippet. However, they are not that easy to train and if you want a dog that comes back every time you call ... look elsewhere. I have no idea on Coyotes but they will take Fox, Hare & rabbit not a problem. Like most Lurhers/sight hounds they do have thin skin, feet are sound many people cross Greyhound with Saluki's as they are a little more hardy in the foot. Goodluck
  21. Guy called Richard runs an E-bay shop makes most items to order. I have found him really helpful and the leather quaily very high. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Craftsman-Leathers
  22. Good idea on the tuna & lamb most dogs will neck it back at quite some speed pilchards usually go down a treat as well and there CHEAP
  23. I dont really lift her too often It usually occurs when they are having a play in the garden. The usual playful snarling and mouthing occurs then he just seems to get the urge. dirty bugger She did have a right go at him when he tried it the other day and he seems to be a bit better since . (spent some time trying to explain to the kids he's just having fun not sure they believe me) She is the FIRST one to greet me when I come through the door.
