  1. Hi mate, there are lots of websites on the net with tips on how to nip train ferrets. The problem with these sites, is that sometimes they give conflicting info. The best thing to do, is to visit a load of them, then build up your own view on what to do. Ferts are like people though, they all have different personalities so what works for one might not work for another. I'm having problems myself with my albino jill, she just won't seem to learn that biting is not the right way to ask to be put down. She's got a weeks worth of trying to learn, with lots of handling or she just might find
  2. I've still got a soft spot for springers, I grew up shooting with my dads Weirach HW35e. I now shoot with a AA s410 & a s200. Even though the PCP has come into it's own recently, it's suprising the way some people look down their noses at spring rifles. They think that they are a thing of the past, and PCP is the 'must have' new technology. In fact if you were to look up the history of the airgun, you would find that the first ever air rifles were in fact a type of PCP.
  3. Nice one mate Hope you enjoyed the curry, will have to try that one out.
  4. Thanks for the advice. Went to the pet shop and the very helpfull woman phoned johnsons for me to find out which one of their products would be suitable. I bought a product called 'Cage 'n' Hutch insect spray'. I then completly emptied the hutch of everything, put the ferrets in the run and blasted the whole can on to every surface, and into every crack and joint. At £3.60 for the can it is quite good value. After a few hours I inspected the hutch and was quite impressed. All of the horrible little bas***ds were dead. Now i'm going to get some frontline for puppies to put on the ferts
  5. My albino jill took herself on a walk about last weekend. Just examined her this morning and had to remove about 10 ticks off her, and one off my Hob. While cleaning out the hutch, on close inspection it is lifting with loads of tiny ticks. can anybody recommend a good insectiside?
  6. How old are your ferts? Some say they aint to clever until the second season.
  7. Hi mate, what I find is the best way to zero my scope, is to clamp it in a work bench. fire off a shot at a large bit of plywood, then try to get yourself around the gun in the same sort of position as you would be in when you shoot it. Then move the crosshairs to where the pellet hit. As for range, it depends on how far you are from what you shoot at. Don't just go for the rifles maximum range untill you get used to having to hold under, for nearer targets.
  8. Sorry to hear about your loss mate. After reading some of the posts on here, I'd be inclined to go along with the spider bite theory. After being bit myslf by one of those huge house spiders, that like crawling out from under your sofa when you're watching T.V with the lights off, I could quite belive that a bite could seriously harm something as small as a fert. On the subject of ending the suffering, good on you. It's never nice seeing an animal suffer, even if we set out to kill it in the first place. Some people think that because we like to shoot things, or catch them in nets, that w
  9. No, it had no locator on.
  10. Me and my mate went to check on our legally set fenn traps last night. We found a Jill dead in one of our traps. I thought it might have been a wild Poley at first, but it was quite fat and looked well fed, not rangy and lean like the pictures I have of wild Poleys. Also, the ferts coat had like a greyish, silver tint to it. The place isn't even suitable for ferreting, you can't see any of the burys, as they are all in a lot of thick gorse and bramble. My guess is that some young lad has sneaked onto the land, as it's widely known to have rabbits on it. If the person had asked for permision, h

    FERRETS

" I sprinkles them on his toast, he gets a good rave on them!"
  12. Got mine from a local pet shop. They only had one ferret one there, but plenty of guinea pig/rabbit ones. They were all made by the same company, but the woman in the pet shop took a rabbit one out of the packet and showed us it was EXACTLY the same as the ferret one, just a different colour. Some sort of 'clever' marketing, i supose. It's fun to watch the kids walk them, more like watching the ferrets walk the kids!
  13. :welcomeani: Hope you enjoy the site, and a big hello from the land of the green, green grass! Good luck with the lamping.
  14. You should be able to pick up a full power rifle with a scope, new for £200. Have a good look at some sites on the net.
  15. It's not really mine, but the oldest piece of kit I use is my old man's HW35e. He bought it second hand when I was about 13. I'm 30 now and it still shoots sweet as a nut.

    sickening

  17. What a waste of space the police are. You could bet your morgage that if someone had gone out and beat one of those c**ts, they would be straight there in force, riot vans, the lot. Wankers.

    sickening

I'd like to beat those c*nts with a lump of wood. On the subject of doing anything about it, you have to be so carefull with these bloody poles, I mean a group of you could give them a kicking, only for one of them to come back, knife somebody and then f**k off back home and vanish without a trace. No offence to polish people, i'm sure most of them are hard working and stay out of trouble, but I was in Cardiff about a month ago, while there was a motorcross event on and for the amount of polish folk there, you'd think you was in poland. The whole city was awash with red and white flags, and as
  19. Glad the dog is O.K mate, It's always a worry when something like that happens. Dosn't the f**kwit of a bloke know thats what car insurance is all about? You must have some patience, if some bloke came to my door demanding £1100 quid after a scare like that, he would be told to Foxtrot Oscar and would have the door slammed in his face. But then i'm quite good at getting myself into trouble!
  20. Sound advice Maty, as you rightly said target practice is essential. You can never do enough.
  21. Looks good, mate Any joy with the 'toilet training'?
  22. Sorry to hear that mate, sounds like he had a good innings.
  23. In my experience, ferts ALWAYS back up into a corner or against a wall and dump! It's like asking one of us to start using the cupboard instead of the toilet! They like to do it as far away from their food as they can, so I've read, so thats probably why they choose the corners.
  24. I don't bother gutting, I read somewhere that the fert gets some goodness from the partially digested plant matter in the guts. Ferrets can't digest plant matter in it's raw form so get no nutrition from it, but when it's partially digested they can absorb some, and get some needed vitamins.
