  1. My season is also finished, probably should have added that in, was more for next season. For me it's also on to the fishing!
  2. Just wondered if there was much folk on here from Scotland? Been going lamping on my own for a few years now ( I enjoy going alone, and it saves my dogs from more embarrassment! Haha) and wouldn't mind seeing a few others dogs in action. Although I am aware that this is a long shot giving a few other posts with folk poaching land!
  3. Always wanted to try thermal night vision, well out my price range though! Lol, tried IR night vision but too much messing about!
  4. Anyone's dogs got weird habits? I have 3 dogs that do a few weird things between them. One used to love love piling the washing at the back door, (went through 4 whirligigs). The other won't cross a bridge with water below until I'm beside her. And I have a pup who likes to cover what food he's left with his straw, cover wherever he craps with straw, and where's his looped ball & rope like a rappers medallion when out a walk haha. Must be folk with other weird and funny stories???
  5. Cheers lads, I'll have a look about and see what suits, lightweight is always a bonus!
  6. I'm looking to invest in a new lamp, battery and carry bag. Any one got any lamps/batteries they'd recommend? Or even websites for buying them from? Obviously the more lightweight the better, but still want a decent beam! Thanks.
  7. I suppose that's why pet plan are double the price of everyone else! Haha, I'll maybe get the pup covered for the first 3, 4 years and see how it goes, we've been lucky (touch wood) that we've only had 2 vet trips in 5 years between 2 dogs, but they still set us apart the best part of £1k!
  8. Few interesting posts here, the rise of lurchers as pets took me by surprise recently when my bitch had a litter of 10, and 7 went as pets! Only 3 went as workers and that's because I kept 1 of them. In times gone by you'd expect all of them to go as workers. Still, each to their own I guess!
  9. Thanks folks. The small things I treat on my own, but others are out with my control and can cost a small fortune! Had a dog with twisted intestines and another that cut through his ligaments on glass I'm assuming, those were 2 costly operations so was more to cover things like that. As for smaller cuts etc I've seen enough to deal with on my own.
  10. Seen an alarming increase in fox and buzzard numbers up my way, can't help the rabbits at all! Used to be crawling with them, now its like a lottery win if you spot one...
  11. Anyone got any advice/tips on the best cover for a lurcher? I've had my fair share of vet bills in the past that have hit me hard in the pocket and was wondering if there's any decent insurance that's worth having to help out? Had a quick look but there seems to be different types for different illnesses and injuries, just wondered if you could get everything covered under one policy?
  12. Bitch is 3 and a half, the barking has calmed down, they are okay in the same vicinity as each other, just when pup gets too close now, I don't know if he's too hyper and jumping around too much for her too, Shes a typical female!!!
  13. Pup is 5 months old, and as far as I'm aware doesn't look to feed off her at all, he doesn't go near her really but if their paths do cross she starts barking and going for him, although she's never actually grabbed him. She's also become more timid and started barking at other strange dogs when out too, whereas before she passed without a care in the world! Not sure if motherhood has changed her attitude or if she'll resort back to old ways in time?
  14. Dam had a litter of 10 and cared for them throughout right up until they were weaned off. Pups are gone apart from 1 that we kept, however dam has started acting aggressive towards it and won't take to pup at all. Looking for advice on getting them settled together? Sire is completely fine with pup.
  15. been doing the one on one off the lead, also walking them seperately sometimes, defo being kept off game for a while. As i said she wasn't intentionally put onto it as i'd never put anything under 10 months at least onto game. Usually wait until they are 1. Great advice, heres a pic of them...
  16. No it is a high pitched yelp. It isn't injury, she doesn't always do it when running flat out, only when the other dog starts to pull away and she can't keep up. She is well exercised, fit and healthy.
  17. Thanks for the advice, I will be taking her out on the lead, and concentrating on more training. There is no rush after all!
  18. It is saluki, greyhound/collie,whippet, as I said I've not been intentionally running it, I wouldn't run any dog until at least 10 months depending on development, just seen a few unexpected sitters and that started the problem, although she is also a bit of a whiner in the garden too! Especially if she knows she's going a walk, I think it might be an excitement thing just now. Already kept her on a lead the last few days and at times walked her separate, lots of good advice though, thanks!
  19. I have 2 lurchers, one is 19 months old, the other is just 7 months old. The problem i have is the last 3 times ive been out a walk there has been a sitter in a field that was unspotted by me and on all occasions the 7 month old pup has chased it. This has left her yelping whilst chasing on those occasions but she now also yelps when playing with my other lurcher when she cant catch him. Is there anyway i can get her to stop this before it ruins a potentially good dog?
