  4. A good whippet will run its balls off all day or night for you and still want more If they`re from the right blood they aren`t shivering things either. My bitch will work all day or night winter spring summer autumn without any bother I`d agree that some show bred dogs would struggle, but if they`re bred the right way you can`t beat a whippet as a rabbit dog and for the occasional hare and fox retrieving live to hand 23 in 34lb ped whippet dog Sooty Sam lines both sides So lads, a good whippet will do everything a small lurcher will do, you pays yer money and yer yakes yer choice
  5. Hi Ferrets, Got a ped whippet at stud , he is 23 in to shoulder about 37lb . Works day and night . Won in show ring also. Proven stud . PM me if you want more info. He is from Sooty Sam lines both sides
  6. He is a big lad for a ped whippet, but that`s the line he is bred from

  9. and also by the look of them 2 whippets a wet windy cold winters night i bet they would be shivering We do most of our rabbiting up in the Yorks Dales, and believe me when the weather is bad up there it is bad We`re ready to call it a day before the dogs , they`ll work all day any weather , they aren`t show dogs , they`re bred worker to worker. They are a purpose bred rabbiting dog, they have it all, instant pace, catching ability , good nose and stamina , for me they do it all
  10. Here`s a couple of fast intelligent dogs, ped whippets both out of Sooty Sam/ Laguna lines my choice these days for a rabbiting dog . I`ve owned whippet x`s , best was a whippet x greyhound , she would catch anywhere and had enough stamina to lamp all night or rabbit all day in the Dales
  11. I`ll go with that one too Luke , nice looking whippet btw
  12. Got a Sooty Sam bred bitch myself. She is coming up to 14 months old and I can`t fault her . She has great nose and all-round hunting ability . She`ll get into any cover if there is game in it , forget all the b------s people say about whippets not facing cover. She`s turning into a handy rabbiting /ferreting dog , this line of whippets isn`t the fastest in the world, but they`re bred for stamina and hunting ability not just out and out speed .
  13. A new forum has been set-up for owners of working whippets . There are also forums for racing, lurchers and general natter http://therealwhippetforum.myfreeforum.org/ Everyone welcome!!
  14. Hello everyone, I`ve created an MSN group for owners of whippets who work them. All are welcome to join for a bit of banter and a laugh etc Link is http://groups.msn.com/WorkingWhippets/homepage
  15. Have a look at Ted Walsh`s book - The English Whippet. It shows the aftermath of a whip taking a fox. It killed it no prob, but got a bit injured in the process. If you`ve not read it it and you`re into whippets I can reccomend it
  16. that`s the one. some tidy looking dogs on there. Does anyone know the breeding of Sooty Sam, was he Laguna both sides??
  17. The best dog I`ve owned was what you would call a grew, Whippet xGreyhound . She was just under 21in and would tackle anything. She was a natural catch dog , and would work all day . She did ok on the hares too, had really quick early pace and could catch a hare without putting a turn in on her better days lol. Her only fault was that she had a weak wrist due to an injury that never really cleared up. All the lurchers I`ve owned have had whippet blood in them, that`s why I always wanted a ped whip, my bitch was a rescue so it`s been a hard road . She`s got there though , she was a nervous
  18. Because they are a good line , they usually throw good workers . If you look athe pedigree of most good working whips there will be some laguna in there somewhere. The Sooty Sam line that are well known as workers are based on Laguna bloodlines, I think
  19. best rabbit dog I`ve ever seen was a black Laguna whippet. Fairly big dog too for a whippet about 22 in . It was a natural catch dog day and night. Had loads of stamina too, it was worked hard on the bunnies up on the open fells . Wasn`t too bad on the hares either. The guy who owned it sold it because he reckoned it was too small . . I didn`t get chance to take it on either. Next dog for me will be a whippet from the Laguna/Nimrodel lines.
  20. Anyone work whippets on here? I have a 2yr old bitch who is becoming quite a good little rabbit dog. She`s the first full whip I`ve owned , always had lurchers previously .
  21. Just found your site via a link from EDRD. I own a ped whippet , a whipet x collie and a JR terrier. Enjoy rabbiting ferreting etc . keep up the good work chaps
