  1. I'm sure my phone was on but I'd have been hard pressed to get there in time. Funny how those little stones do grow isn't it. Great write up as usual mate.

I think all the talk from the NK gov't is just their way of keeping their own people in check. Trying to stir some national pride by saying "see how strong we are, we stand up to the Americans". I am not the least bit worried about NK. The enemies I fear are the ones within our own borders and within our own government. We have been nearly effectively defeated already from within. It won't take much more for the US to degenerate into civil war. My own brother is planning to move out of the country this year and I am thinking it over as well. The US citizens a generation or 2 ago prided themsel
  3. Great pics as usual Kay. Did you snap all those deer shots quick before they ran off or did they just stand there for you? Would love to see some more black and whites of farm buildings some time if you're of a mind to. Something special about those.
  4. Sussex, you should write a book someday. Your write ups always put me in the mood to get back to the field. Thanks. And thanks for putting up the pic Hutchey. Really something that bone sticking out.
  5. Absolutely fabulous site Dave! Thanks for that! (By the way,my family immigrated from Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1751 and I've always hoped to see it myself someday.)
  6. I appreciate the link, Andrew, and the advice and insights from all. The youtube video was excellent. Very enlightening. Thanks all!
  7. Always enjoy your write-ups Sussex. Thanks.
  8. I've just purchased a Winchester model 70 .243 super short and haven't had time to try it with different loads yet. I bought it mainly for my young son but I'll use it myself some as well. We'll be hunting deer mainly. I've looked over balistic charts for this one some and hope to try it out soon at the range. Just wanted to have any advice from some with more experience than myself. I've always used a Marlin 30-30 til now and limited my shots to about 120 yards. With this .243 we'll be shooting up to about 250 yards (maybe 300 after I know it really well). Based on chart data I'm favori
  9. Welcome. Look forward to hearing how you compare the hunts there to back home. Be sure to post some write ups for us. There's a bunch of first class hunters on here. I hope you get to hunt with some while you're there. Great bunch of guys. Very knowledgeable.
  10. We have the same law here, at least for dove shooting. I'm not sure about other species and other parts of the country. Of course a dove moves too fast to shoot at more than 3 times and as tegater said it deserves to get away if you haven't hit it in 3 but it is frustrating when you get on a really good shoot and the next group of birds is on top of you before you have time to reload from the previous. For those that shoot at birds as poorly as me it doesn't matter how many shots you have anyway. I can hit clays pretty fair but always botch it on the birds. I think I'm not leading enough.
  11. Which do you favor, a light grain bullet for flat shooting or heavy grain for knock down?
  12. Carraghs Gem, I tried to pm you about the levis but it says you can't receive any messages. If you don't find what you want on Amazon just pm me details and I'll see what they are asking in local stores next time I'm to town. Art
  13. This sounds like most of my hunts this year. Right deer standing in the wrong place or wrong deer standing in the right place. Always just good to be out though and the owl is a nice plus.
  14. These folks offer the hunt you are looking for but I don't know anything about them personally so can't recommend them per se. http://thehuntingco.com/south-coast-safaris I hope this is helpful.
  15. My brother said he saw a spot on the local news this past weekend that said the hog population is out of control in Lowndes County Alabama now and they were asking hunters to come after them. He said they even ran a special segment after the report on how to hunt hogs. Not sure I have time to be driving down there but it sure is tempting. I know a fella that works at the local hardware store here that hunts them just about every weekend. He says there are plenty closer by and I can go with him but he only hunts them with dogs. I would prefer to stalk or sit in a high seat.

    Political Joke

Our government is (so many words come to mind but then they might find this and come after me) a frightening mess.

Oh well. I thought it was funny.
  18. We used to have Ronald Reagan, Johnny Cash, and Bob Hope. Now we have Barack Obama, no cash, and no hope.
  19. We keep pearl white leghorns. They typically lay 1 egg per bird per day. The folks at the hatchery recommended minimum 4 sq ft per bird but I have 9 birds and 128 sq feet. Mine quit laying almost completely when the days got short my first year with them. If you put in a light on a timer to give them 14 hours light each day then they keep laying steady. That means natural daylight + supplemental light = 14 hours (don't run your electric for 14 hours). We feed with 16% layer pellets. You'll want a 5 gal waterer so as to avoid having to refill daily. I put hay in the nest boxes.
  20. So far I haven't figured out how to include pics on my posts. Uploaded some to my gallery but don't know how to post pics here. I see the image icon on the toolbar but it just asks for a URL and my pics are saved in the laptop, not saved on the internet, so not sure how to proceed. Will keep trying to figure it out.
  21. Keep the posts coming Sussex. With our season over I have to live vicariously. Nice write up mate.
  22. I have a 15 foot 2 man high seat. (not sure exactly how it compares to the ones on your ebay) My teenage son and I have sat in it together. I'm 175 pounds and he's 125. Just to look at you wouldn't think its all that stout but it feels very safe and steady. I use the straps that came with it to secure it to the tree but mine is only out 2-1/2 months of the year and then back in storage. Everyone I know that leaves them out year round chunks the straps and secures with a good stout bit of chain at the seat level and again 1/2 way down the ladder and uses with a ladder brace against the tr
  23. In my area coyotes can be harvested year round and there is no bag limit. I just received a predator call for my birthday to try my luck on the coyotes as soon as I get a free morning. I've misplaced my book right now and can't remember all the details on the bobcats but there is a season for bobcats here. With bobcats however you have to register each kill with the Fish & Wildlife department. Not so with the coyotes. Thats why I'm not interested in taking a cat. Wild hogs are becoming increasingly common here. They were almost unheard of here a few years ago but now you see
  24. Regarding species of deer, we have only whitetails here. You have to travel quite a ways to find other species. In some places out west you can find whitetails, mule deer, prong horns (antelope), elk, and moose. As to the numbers, on a bad day at the club you'll see none. On a good day you'll see 8 or 10 in a 1 or 2 hour hunt. If you go an hour south or southwest of us then on a good hunt you'll see more like 20. The predators that affect deer population here are mainly coyotes and bobcats. Every once in a while you hear of a black bear or panther but I've yet to encounter either
