  2. They are all does by the look of it. .....
  3. welcome ,someone will be looking for someone to sort there rabbit problem its just a case of finding him !! keep knocking on doors , good luck
  4. Fair play fraggle ,one word of advice if i may....look & act like a pro. People are reassured if the guy with the gun looks like he knows exactly what he's doing !!! Good luck mate hope you drop him on the spot.
  5. Its a lot easier holding a pistol /revolver than a rifle ,even a .22 can be a bit awkward if your trying to restrain something like a deer hooked on a fence, & much more discrete..I think geoff your looking at .22 captive bolt , slightly different from using a pistol/revolver as a humane killer that actually fires a round , as apposed to firing the bolt. I must confess to never having used the captive bolt , but have seen it used to great effect.
  6. been there phill.....ps i've got a client out monday & loading tue but will be out a couple of times later in week depending on weather, i'l post a message (if my wife shows me how) if you fancy an afternoon in a seat , there are a few moving about .
  7. Think i'd take Rich 10's offer up,thats a fair old slap to shoot charlie...and thats assuming you get it 1st time,if you ask the people on here how often they have gone out to shoot a fox that's been seen the same place at the same time for ages............you go up kitted out rifle lamp etc............well how strange is that , seen him every night, allways here, this is the 1st night hes not shown up is the next thing you hear.,four nights later you get him. Some times it goes to plan !!! Good luck ..........ps by know he/she will have a mate ! Pps the guy needs toget rid of the mastiff &
  8. Main man I'd go for a .32 its a well used round for a humane killer. My last one did the job perfect .
  9. Started out nice dry but overcast morning ,stiffish easterly wind but good stalking weather. I'd got to stalking ground about 800 acers devided in two fairly equal blocks joinedby a fairly narrow strip of land,.Whilst you could walk the whole lot its better to get to the other side by hoping back in the truck & driving round.I was out with a good stalking mate of mine who spotted deer with in two minutes of stepping out of the truck , abeit not shootable. We started slowly down through the wood to get to a fairly deep gully where the deer get some protection from the north & easterly
  10. I would have thought there's enough regs know, if you have any convictions for violence dos'nt that allready stop you getting your ticket ? Most offences even petty stuff can be a big problem when you go for renewall .All you need is an ex with a grudge and your in sh.t street ,how would you prove her wrong ? Dangerous ground .! convictions, reports to police at time of attack fair play no ticket. But years later out of spite no way.
  11. hi art welcome to the hunting life
  12. The trouble is getting them to move out slowly , the minute they get a scent or hear something there gone, & at a trot. They dont hang about at all.The fallow where i am are at serious levels & if driving or pushing them was an option it would happen ,they are just to skittish .I cull on a local deer park & its hard going there & they are fenced.
  13. Hi cordon if you intend to ring round local farmers to ask for shooting my advice is dont bother & save the the cost of the phone calls No farmer in his right mind would give someone on the phone permission to shoot his land, having never met them,if i were you ,and i have been where your at,clay pigeon club , to learn gun safety & the basics of shooting ,SGC, get involved with local shoot ,beating, work party, any thing that gets you mixing with people that do what you aspire to do i.e field sports. When you learned the basics & then want to try to get your own shooting go face to
  14. hi BH driven deer is a big no over here, allthough it is done abroad, years ago they used to drive roe to shotguns but thankfully them days are long gone, far to many wounded deer running of to die a miserable death,.To hit a running deer & deliver a safe, clean humane kill shot in a woodland with something like 308is not really an option mate. No mater how many deer i shoot every time i squeeze the trigger & the deer takes of as they do most times( if you heart/lung shoot them) just for a few metre's normally its a relief when they drop ,and thats with a standing target & me being 1
  15. Hi callumm i'm in your location & have a more or less the same problem but with birch scrub , I can normally get to grips wiyh 1 or 2 as they come out to feed,u might have to play the waiting game, or feed them out . Have you got high seats ? Can you cut some clearings?
  16. Sad day ,put the old lakeland to earth today for the last & final time.Good little dog game as you could want. She has,nt really done much for a few years but she was 15,still managed to attack the hoover & ironing board at every opportunity. She hated them with a passion ! Went to earth ,loved a rat & a cat (i did tell her not to chase them ,honest) Bloody sad day......Cheers RAGS ......
  17. I would go .243 it covers all the bases, good fox round,i was shooting 54gr hornaday out of mine ,flat as a witchs tit...!! !00 gr for deer. After a wnile i just shot every thing with the 100gr good luck
  18. At last some good stalking weather, was up ,coffee made & out by 6.30 for a short trip to my stalking ground, about 600acres of wood & grassland, Sat & had a coffee as i waited for the first signs of light. With a slight north easterly i had the chance to stalk Round field, a favorite for the deer but very difficult to get any where near if the prevailing south westerly is blowing, today was perfect with a slight north easterly breeze if the deer were not tucked in tight to the wood all should be good. As i worked my way through the wood i could see the deer out about 90 m ,working
  19. Never had a problem with swarovski .very expensive .....very good......great service .
  20. Fair play mate, its a lot of money to lay out for .22 ,i thought you were looking for stalking kit. My 1st .22 was a brno with niko sterling if my memory serves me well ,shot thousands of rounds through it, funny enough just bought another one ,gave up the ruger 10 22 could,nt be arsed with it,liked some ammogood luck didnt like others, the brno would shot doughnuts if you chamberd em......!good luck
  21. Hutchey my pennies worth ! if you only want to buy once buy the best, as you progress in your stalking you will realise the bit extra the quality opics give will pay dividends in low light conditions over & over. My personal preferance Swarovski bins & scope ,good luck
  22. Hello guys, new on here but here goes .I stalk 3 or 4 times a week & never venture out with the dog.A lab,i know there really an air scent dog but they will ground scent withthe right training from a young age,she walks at heel & will sit if she scents a deer& wont move, she gets me 6 or so deer every year that i just would,nt get otherwise, steady as a rock under the seat, & will track wounded deer great. Its said you only get 1 really good dog in your life if your lucky,if this one is,nt mine i,ve got a great one to come.!!! My problem..........she is eleven . Were do i go ne
