  2. Left home at 1 pm for a 1.30 meet with Philluk ,never met before but i made it to the meet 5min early to find Phill already there,i was hoping the partial thaw at home was also under way at the estate .It was'nt , the differance a few hundred foot makes was there to see.It looked unchanged from my blank outing two days prior. My original plan to spend a couple of hours stalking the wood then sitting up one of the high seats on the top end of the estate looking over a paddock surrounded by woodland was put on ice.!! the paddock was pure white still. Plan B stalk the woodland then sit in a high
  3. Had a 22.250 for 5 years ,shot loads of foxes & crows ,250m is a comfortable range, never had a problem with barrel .if i had to get a new .22 centre fire 223 would be my choise only because its a cheaper to run & do seem to have a better resale value. They are both a great foxing gun............ps they do move in the wind
  4. Shame about the lost one , it's a mistake that most of us ,if we're honest, have made at some point in our stalking lives. I know never stalk without the dog but that twenty min or so wait before going to look seems like a an age.In most cases you know the reaction to the shot you have got it right but its still a relief when you find it. Your daughter sounds like she's spot on ,well done.I've got two kids(adults now) neither has any intrest in shooting first or last...!good luck for the rest of your season Ps how long is your season.?
  5. Snap shot , i 've never come across rumen fluke before but given its emaciated condition you may well be right in future i will look past the obvious .many thanks ........i,l be a vetinary soon for sure............Ps funny how a lot of vets shoot .& stalk ....
  6. Littlle up date on the fluke , spoke to a couple of vet friends and they both agree that a hot dry summer would see a reduction in the cases of fluke,
  7. welcome to the hunting life
  8. bonjour mon amie.....my only words of french !
  9. You know your getting old, When you get out of the high seat before its to dark to see just because there happens to be a minor blizzard in progress, When the seat in front of the woodburner has more attraction than a cold, wet highseat, with a chance of a shot at fallow When you curse that you left the handwarmers on the worktop ,next to the flask of coffee you made , When you convince yourself nothing was coming out anyway, When you dont feel guilty about any of the above......................I am old . PS did see four roe does on a walk round before i got up seat, they sat ti

  11. They have taken their nomal head up arse attitude,if you stick it up high enough you can convince yourself the lights are out , no matter how many people tell you they aint.!!

  14. It was just a very poor sick looking animal, allthough fluke is not considered a reason to discard this one was in my opiniun not good enough to put in thefood chain, gralloched out it would'nt have weighed more than 18lb.I work on the 'would i want to eat guide' ....no..it just did'nt look good enough..
  15. my mate from essex is of the same mind, he hasseen a big increase in sheep grazing and in fluke,on my bit there are no sheep at all ,but it is as i said very wet in places. Onthe subject of sheep they are my pet hate, lots of sheep = not so many deer,I dont think deer likethem 1st or last.
  16. Dont think so.given the ice & snow we had over the last few years it does'nt seem to impact on it ,i wonder if the reverse would , really dry & hot..dont know ! Will ask my vet pal

  18. My pennies worth elliot ,had in my time loads of rifles,.22 .22hornet 223 22.250 ,.22 semi .243 and on &on.....the best of the lot FOR ME.......22 LR bruno bolt action .Had one for years then for some darft reason bought a ruger 22 semi..liked some ammo did't like others,2years ago got another bruno(CZ)...same as the old one, would shoot doughnuts if you could chamber them,! The gun cabinet looks bear know,.22 ...6.5 couple of shotguns...anything i cant kill with these gets a free ride!!!! ps quality optics are the way forward
