Trophies don’t really do much for me , the silver I shot was a malform , it had a third antler growing out of the pedicule and made silver (126.4) mainly on weight ..it got its place on the “trophy “ wall as a cull animal ..I don’t get to shoot many roe as my places are 99% fallow ..and on which there are precious few that have quality heads let alone anything in the medal class .i don’t think I’ve ever seen a gold medal wild fallow head in all the years I’ve been stalking , seen a few good heads but nothing that I would immediately class as gold .Medal quality fallow heads are in the same le

Over 500gr dry , length and decent span that might make the grade , are you going to get it measured ? ..best I’ve ever shot made good silver , I think yours will pip my one ..left two that would have made gold but they were exceptional heads on young deer , one was killed about three weeks later on the road and the other shot by my pals son next door to my perm on one of his first solo outings ....his old fella wasn’t best pleased to say the least !

My landowners to a t...on one the culling is the last consideration after all the other land uses of which he had many , mainly because it brings in the least revenue ..His other revenue streams revolve around people being out on the land for training purposes , forestry , office lets , races etc , so someone out with a rifle can pose a problem .Even more so if there are multiply people so his solution is one person who he trusts and liases with to do the job , which is what he looks at it as .After several years of doing the job I now have carte blanch over the deer with regards to numbers , -

The odd one or two DC no problem , it’s a different story when you have ten or more a week , you need cold storage especially in the warmer months , people of our oik don’t have a problem with a whole carcass , we can skin and butcher an animal to a sufficient level and pack it away .As most of the people I know who would want a whole animal are fairly apt at getting there own it leaves you with the ones that only want some if it’s cut up , vacuum packed and ready for the freezer .it then also leaves you with the bits that no one wants ( skin and bones)to get rid of , and that’s after you have -
Venison prices, what does the future hold?

Prices this year were through the floor , next year I see as even worse .Like anything it’s supply and demand and from talking to my dealer there has been a huge oversupply in the last couple of years . The market for venison has been growing on average 10% a year since 2016 , plans were put in place to increase the amount of imported farmed venison to meet this demand , and I don’t think that demand has dropped significantly just because of Covid 19 .. Where I see a difference is in the amount of home produced wild venison , my dealer was inundated with carcasses .What, all of a sudden -

They came from Somalia , he’s a Somali with British citizenship that allowed him to live study & work here , which in turn rewarded him and his adopted country ..Amir Khan has dual citizenship British / Pakistan ..of which he’s equally proud off .. For every Mo Farah there’s a dozen you would want to see the back of ..

I don’t see that , if a dog was born in a stable it doesn’t make it a horse ..if you took just say an Ethiopian couple as an example , regardless of colour or whatever , if they had a kid over here to my mind he’s still an Ethiopian , just born over here ..
