  1. I agree here dealer. I've been at this game only 11 years now, and I expect that there's a lot I am yet to see. The season starts for me here next week, and I will see if the dog I have can continue on his journey to be retired at 8 or 9 like his mother and grandfather. He's a stronger/bigger dog, so maybe he'll make 10? Cheers pal.
  2. fat man, you could never of said some thing that I disagree with so much ! I will explain it in away that some new lads to the sport will understand, as those in the game for many a year will understand what I am saying.. most people think " ALI" was the greatest fighter of all time, but for those that have only seen his last few fights would disagree. dogs and humans peak at a certain age, you cant improve up to your last year of your life, as you age. a lot of what you have done in the past will catch up with you, as it is with dogs and humans. over the years I have seen a few dogs in t

  4. This "trustworthy with kids" stuff amazes me. If it can't be trusted, then it should be DEAD. No ifs, butts or maybes. I grew up with terriers, bulls and running dogs, and it didn't matter what the dog was, what it cost, how it was bred, or how old, if the old man had a question about it, it was GONE, and I follow the same line now.
  5. Finally, facts amd common sense Linebreeding brings to the surface 2 traits....the good ones and the bad ones. It cant create something that wasnt already there to start with. The reason that conservationists avoid linebreeding is to avoid gene bottlenecking. This is bad because if a new virus/disease enters the wild population, and everything is closely related, then the chance of having genes that are resistant to the new disease are greatly reduced. Its a numbers game.
  6. Anyone at all????????? some help would be greatly appreciated
  7. Trying to get in contact for EDRD renewal. The email I have for Harcombe keeps returnung and telling me "user unknown". Has he changed his email since last year? Cheers Ozzy
  8. I did a triple-bred mating a few years ago. The Sire is a good small dog (we like them small in this part of the world), and his daughter (1st mating) is almost as good. did the father/daughter mating and kept a bitch that i was happy with, and put her back to her father/grandfather. 3 pups were born. 1 tiny little bitch, 1 bitch that looked like its grandmother, and a dog that matured out to 5 pound heavier than the parents and is far stronger than anything from that line. He is only 2 and a half, but is working well for the person who has him. The 2 bitches werent any good. Father/Gran
  9. They are nasty little feckers. I dont think there would be much of a terrier left
  10. Good to see another Aussie. Seems to be more on here every day. Where abouts in Vic are ya?
  11. i prefer a fresh tail/dried skin, but if your willing to give one up, then it wont hurt. I would only let him have it when your playing with him, as i dont think swallowing some of the tanned stuff is a good idea.
  12. Kate, the mini foxy is a little Australian farm dog that has been around for over a hundred years. Its never recieved formal recognition because its not a miniature of the Fox Terrier. The Australian mini foxy club changed the breeds name to Tenterfield Terrier so it could be officially ANKC recognised. But most people still call them mini foxies. It looks alot like the american Rat Terrier. And yes, they do work to ground. HG, take your time with him. Mine usually dont start checking dens until 14-16 months old. Give him lots of tails/dried skins, and take him for walks through the
  13. Depends on the dog and its background. I've seen pure shite, and rippers that were pure. and I've seen X-bred shite, and gooduns of them too. just because its pure, dont mean its better than a mongrel.
  14. its a x-bred mate, jacks are supposed to have white. Ofcourse, the fact that its not white dont mean it wont hunt.
  15. Welcome mate. Good to see another Aussie on here. Where ya from, and what dogs ya got? Cheers mate, Ozzy
  16. I find this whole topic very interesting. While I will NOT tolerate aggression in any way, shape or form from a dog, the fact that the dog is new, and was given a bone, was not a good idea. I do agree that a persons safety is most important. Breed is un-important. I dont care if its chihuahua or a great dane, growling/biting is NOT allowed. I have always disagreed with the "no dog is 100% safe" comment. If i have a dog that growls at me over a bone/food, it will be brought into line. After 10-15 minutes of pats and "good dogs", i will again do what ever I did to make it growl. If it gro
  17. brother fox, no Russell in her at all. 2 of the whites are mostly white (95%) with a bit of colour around the head, with a dab on the back/base of tail. The 3rd white (she was the runt and died within 24 hours. Only weighed 2.7 ounces) was heavily coloured, like the mothers sire. I knew about Eyeball being half staff, but not about Tess. Cheers mate, Ozzy
  18. m.r1, I have no idea Cheers Nando. Brother Fox, Yep, thats the line. I also have the 5 gen, and can trace parts back 8 gen, but that dont mean its the correct breeding . Any idea which 2 were the white staffs? My male was a big S.O.B. 23 pounds in condition, and plenty of bone. Very staffy-like. Cheers Stabs. I figured there was white in the background (way back, - or not so way back ), but i have never been told of whites from black parents. Must be something thats usually swept under the rug?? Cheers fellas Ozzy
  19. I recently put a Pat over a white bitch of mine. The Pat is, according to the pedigree (I have never had much faith in pedigrees, hand written or otherwise), heavily bred on Spartacus. His grandmother, top and bottom, is Ice (she was imported here to Oz). On this forum, I have read that Ice was a show staff cross, BUT the pedigree says she is double bred Spartacus, out of Whisp . What I find interesting is that the pups, born yesterday, 2 blacks and 3 whites. Now i dont really give a f**k what colour a dog is, but with my limited knowledge of genetics, surely, according to the pedigree,
  20. The tiger snakes are also cranky little feckers. I've been chased once or twice Marcos, I'll be at Carrisbrook with a young Tenterfield Terrier male. Hes big for my line, but is coming on nicely. I also hope to see the brother of the Patterdale I had. Anytime your heading east, just send me a PM on here, and your welcome to see my dogs. The father of the litter is a Pat that was bred by a guy in NSW. A mate of mine has seen his parents work pigs at Cobar. According to the papers, he was line bred on Goulds Spartacus He was a big boy at 10 kilo. He was PTS a few weeks ago. The m
  21. Marcos they seem to be out early this year. Went ferreting last weekend (a bit early i know) and we counted 3 red-belly blacks in 5 minutes. Are you going to Carisbrook on the 30th? Cheers, Ozzy
  22. allgame, i hunt around Ballarat. All my hunting is done on foot, and mostly alone. I carry a takedown post-hole shovel (5 foot handle) that fits in my backpack, hatchet, plant shears, and a sharp knife. Never had much use for a digging bar. After walking for 4 hours (round trip) and digging for 2, they are just to bloody heavy to carry around. Cheers mate, Ozzy
  23. Hello Marcos. Its good to see another Aussie on here. Where abouts in Vic are you? I'm 30minutes south of Ballarat. The Patterdales are few and far between around here. But they do pop up occasionally. I've got a Pat cross litter due on Sunday (but i think she will drop before then) Cheers mate, Ozzy
