I have just read a book about a boxer in the twenties who I have never previously heard of ,Nipper Pat Daly,what an eye opener ! Started boxing professionaly at 9 (nine ) years of age ,boxing 15 round fights ( sometimes twice a week ) at 14 fought top opposition ,grown men,top of the bill at 15 ,forced to diet to make flyweight and then bantam weight limits ( doesn't even bear thinking about what that would of done to a young growing lad )when it was suggested his trainer / manager should rest him ,he was taken to a boxing booth on the assumption a change is as good as a rest!!! I remember how excited my dad was when Emlyn Hughes signed for Wolves , it was a big deal to get a fairly big player & personality play at the Molineux I remember going to Wolves in the early 70s (73 I think )Liverpool had to win to win the league ,anyway we won ,there was a pitch invasion and my old fella saw me on the telly acting like a divvy ,his exact words were "you want to grow up ,you big gormless looking kunt " that's what happens when you have an evertonian father

You have got no idea how much I laughed picturing your face when you read that ...sorry youngster ...but simple things amuse simple people and all that . Must admit i skipped over a lot of the thread so maybe ive missed something.....or is it really as simple as that..........dont tell me i,ll live in ignorance. The bisto kid was calling Wilfy and Tufty plastic east enders while he was educating your lot ,really that simple ,like I said ,simple minds and all that .

Just had a quick gander on line to remind myself ,,,,they took some honers with greenwood and then John lyle at the top,,,managers stayed there a long time as Wel ,,,,there first two managers went almost 50 year between them...must have been well loved Offs your just rubbing it in now
