I think he was genuinely torn between going to a higher level / winning more trophies and staying loyal , he knew that winning things with Liverpool would always mean more to him than finishing his career with an impressive c.v He could of gone to Real in 04 , Zidane rated him the best midfielder in the world at the time and badgered his manager to sign him , There is no doubt in my mind he would of been a success in Spain or Italy infact a move there would probably have made him an even better player , definatly richer , Sometimes a home town boy is just that and Loyalty and sense of duty o

So he,s off at the end of the season and I wish him all the luck in the world , it,s been a privilege watching him over the years ,at times he was the closest I have seen to a 1 man team ,he improved every player he played with (Owen and Torres have never been the same without him )and he won trophies that just wouldn't have been won without him in the team .He was in my opinion the best type of captain , one who leads by example ,and I hope one day he will be back as manager , all the best Stevie .

Oh , it was banter , that's ok then , I,m only just beginning to understand how this banter lark works , as far as I can see , you call complete strangers ( who are trying to help you ) offensive ,insulting names , then you drag that persons mother into it and make repulsive comments about her , then when , incredibly , nobody has laughed at your witty remarks , and you have sobered up or put the crack pipe down , you shout " it was only banter " and everything is ok , in fact people feel a bit silly because they "bit " good stuff this banter -
