  1. I have a captive bolt, discrete, no risk, very fast, efficient. The animal don't suffer. Some use a 9mm rifle here, more dangerous if you are in group. Some others use a dagger after stunned the game but you must be very familiar. We never leave a living badger to the dogs.
  2. At the beginning, I thought hose was a stupid and needless gadget. We begun to use hose in order to listen to the dog. You can't locate but listen what happens. Further, we spoke to the dog through the hose to encourage him. Go on ! You can use the hose in the sand to keep some air for the dog in case of collapse, very efficient. If you have to dig the tunnel quickly, put the hose in the tunnel, it keeps some air for the dog if he's stuck in the hole. Later, one of our common use : at the end of the hunt you can tickle the badger with the hose, the badger will come out of the hole. An
  3. Some usual tools to hunt badger : lamp, tong for leg, little rods, hose...
  4. Don't forget the two little metal rods. With your rods, you will be able to find where are the tunnels underneath, you will be able to estimate the depth.
  5. That's a great part of the pleasure ! Search, listen, doubt, try, listen again and ever, with the hose, with the bar, the smell of the earth and grass and after a long time... the great great success : hear the dog ! Locate the dog with the ear is the most important part of the hunt, the rest is far behind.
  6. Interesting thread. I'm going to hunt boar this morning (without electronic prosthesis). I'll read it later.
  7. It's Right. Fox terriers are often used to dig here. The rough hair and the smooth hair. Teckels and jack russell are often used too. I have jack russell and patterdales to dig. To flush boar, I have teckels and some jack russell (the bigger, Parson Jack Russell as we call them in France). In fact, I have no final opinion about races. It depends of what you have to do, how you do it and the lines of course. Notice that you can be surprised with the lines : i have a very little jack russell bitch from 100% pet line, we caught 21 badgers with her this summer and she failed only twice. But t
  8. The first one is in Fontainebleau Forest, the east of paris. Very well known. The Rally Fontainebleau is hunting deer. There is another very famous crew on the deer in the same place : Rallye Tempête.
  9. Click on HD (down and right) to have the best quality. Rallye fontainebleau, near Paris http://vimeo.com/80487105
  10. Yes I know, Foxdropper. Consequently, we don't dig exactly the same way. Here we can do it with a lot of curious, wives and children. There is a kind of meeting for a dig. The other great difference is the time. In France, we like take all our time. With good dogs, we let the dog work a good time while we're eating. Sometimes, we are a bit slow. In England, you are quicker. May be you are in a hurry to finish. So, it's a matter of sport. In France, an old one-armed man can do a good terrierman.

  12. You can dig nutria (or coypus) with a dog, it's easier than badgers. In France some meetings are organized to hunt nutria with dogs.
  13. According to french criteria, at least 9 different kinds of dogs are named Griffon. Each type is used for a different quarry. 4 types of griffon vendéen - Petit basset vendéen, specialized for rabbits, - grand basset vendéen, polyvalent - griffon briquet vendéen for deer our boar, - grand griffon vendéen used for big game, 2 types of griffon fauve de bretagne : - basset fauve de bretagne, specialized on rabbit, - grand fauve de bretagne, very good for foxes, 1 among the 6 races of bleu de gascogne is named griffon bleu de gascogne, very famous on hare, 1 griffon nivernais, a gr
  14. Born Hunter, unfortunately some don't hunt correctly in France too. And the antis are very happy to find some pics with blood.
  15. A small badger hunt : the entrance is under Gaston's elbow and the end below the rocks.
  16. 20 kg. They are heavier in october / may, 1/3 more. This year we have a lot of little badgers, less than 10 kg. But they seem in good health. We send some in laboratory for analysis, no problem detected. Sometimes You try to be serious but you say nonsense... Last saturday, i compared my old mechanical peson with an electronic peson. Mine was three kg under the right weight. So all the measures of the season are probably incorrect. Badgers was heaviers than i thought.
  17. The middle of september is the beginning of venerie. The Hounds are ready to hunt deers, boars, foxes, hares or rabbits. A pregnant bitch tried to go with the pack. The huntsman brings the dog back to the kennel. (Vénerie du berry - Christelle Brunet). The first out of the boar season (A. Lapeyre vautrait Piqu'Avant Bretagne - Kat Veloma).
  18. Hunting pics are like sex pics, some are porn.
  19. Here, i Do it myself during the five first days, very easy and absolutely no pain for puppies. Strange time ... Humans are increasingly transformed by cosmetic surgery, piercing, lippo-sucking, breast implants, sex change ... You can do what you want and some girls even feel obliged to do so. But cut a small piece of the dog's tail is a crime.
  20. what an opponent he must make for a terrier. again very good post/work blaise. hows the French, northern irish relations?? I could find myself over there doing a battlefield tour then knocking your door and going out digging Hows the French, northern irish relations?? Probably very good. But i'm not a travel agency, just an hunter.
