  1. It freezes, a little fire. The teckel has done the work, three puppies look at the badger. Nice day with happy few.
  2. In this area, We release when we are in forest, never in the farm lands.
  3. Our young black dog's barking on badger last saturday. He's 7 months old.
  4. Sometimes you can catch the badger with the hand by a hind leg or the tail. Some guys are clever, others are wounded.
  5. No sab in this region (too far from big towns). Since 2010, there are some fine in case of obstruction to the conduct of a hunt.
  6. Tomorrow We'll go to hunt badgers here
  7. Diversity of hunting ways, abundance of dog types in europe is very interesting. Concerning France, we don't use strong dogs with badgers.
  8. I'm not sure that respect of quarry comes with the age of the hunter. According to me, it's a matter of education and era. Here in France, during the 70's the great part of hunters were absolute killers. An important part of the oldest hunters are still "shoot first and think after" (they are responsible for the most part of accidents). The younger hunters are more educated, they must pass an exam, a training exactly like a driving license. They prefer quality than quantity. It's a cultural trend.
  9. matador.gif I have a captive bolt, discrete, no risk, very fast, efficient. The animal don't suffer. Some use a 9mm rifle here, more dangerous if you are in group. Some others use a dagger after stunned the game but you must be very familiar. We never leave a living badger to the dogs. I thought captive bolt guns merely render the animal unconscious?? Or do they kill a small animal like a badger? Captive bolt is used to kill definitively cows or bulls.
  10. Never ! Support our french winegrowers !
  11. Neil, If you are able to do it for water, you should be able to find dry pipes. Another tip for finding depth : with a single rod, held horizontally, you slowly raise your hand ground up. When the rod rotates in your hand a 1/4 turn, stop. Depth equal to the distance between your hand and the ground.
  12. Try it ! To begin, Find a drain pipe in your floor with two rods or outside in the ground.
  13. As said Accip47, you can locate the tunnels with the rods. When you are above, they cross. But be careful, it isn't an exact science. Some are able to estimate the depth : When rods are crossed, you have to recede slowly until rods come back parallel. If you need to recede 2 meters, there's 2 meters depth. Some pretend to find the animal... magician or liar ? The ancients thought that badgers was able to feel the fluid of the magicians when they walked above and then badgers became aggressives. I've seen some french terriermen who didn't want these "magicians" during the hunt. Too much ma

  15. The dog is gone, guys are drinking... I go outside !
  16. Thank Mushroom for explaination. We haven't such tradition. We don't like too hard dogs.
  17. When you dug on the dog and the badger don't want come out by himself, wait a time. Be patient, you've warm, it's probably time to drink a glass of white wine. If badger still in the hole when the bottle is empty, don't uncork another one. It's time to dig another hole on the badger.
  18. I've 4 jack russell, 2 little size and 2 parson type, from 3 different lines. The best one's the little bitch on the pic. Too hard to hunt foxs but very involved with badgers. Unfortunately, she don't pass the qualities to its progeny, we tried twice. My jacks vs my patts... Jacks are perhaps quicker, Patterdales are able to hunt longer. My Jacks are sometimes inconstant and my Patts lack a bit voice. Here the voice is very important because we hunt without collar. But I'm very happy with these two breed, Some are marvelous workers.
  19. Yes some guys dig in these area, Charente-Maritime. Personaly I've never seen them but perhaps some members know.
