  1. Blaise, what is the long pipe used for? Hope you have a good season. The long pipe is our phone. During the hunt, we hear the dog barking with. This pipe is introduced in the hole. It's used to speak at the dog too. We use it in two other ways. When you need to collapse near the dog (sand for example), first you introduce the pipe, so your dog has some air. Last way, at the end, when the dog is attached at the leash and badger stayed at the end of the tunnel. We tickle the badger with the pipe. Usually, badger goes out (50% success).
  2. Do they drop to ground much when hunting boar blaise? I have to be cautious, I try to avoid passing near badger setts Most of problems are in december when Foxes are in heat. Foxes walk around holes and they go to ground immediately. Few years ago, I dug 2 foxes with my knife and a wooden stick. I had no more tools.
  3. These are three terriers of my kennel. They are waiting with my daughter for boar hunting. These dogs aren't very good on boar but they like freedom in woods during few hours.
  4. How did they do Blaise, did they catch?? The weather wasn't good, hail, rain and snow, wind. One badger in the morning with a young black dog, very good. Another badger at the night, more difficult, with a black bitch. Very courageous dog.
  5. Sad day. Dig out for young, reserved. My sons and friends took dogs and tools. The elderly stay at home. Hopefully, just one or twice during the season.
  6. A little dig with my son this sunny afternoon. Two badgers with a young patterdale dog. Happy.
  7. Yes you can, be careful. Each year, some are catched with hands (at the tail or back paws).
  8. We don't kill an animal in the hole. We catch the quarry without wound it. So here, we are using special tongs : the largest for the body, the little one for paws. They are made to be safe. At the end we can release the badger or dispatch it outside the terrier.
  9. beginning of automn Inside the tunnel to heard the dog little rocks through tunnel body tongs and paw tongs, non wounging (lawful models)
  10. Results The aim isn't to kill a lot of animals nor to dig big holes. Each team have to hunt a badger set in the clever way, with respect for dogs, respect for the quarry, respect of men.
  11. During the Mass of St. Hubert, this is a part of the french hunting culture. Traditionnal dog blessing.

  16. Two days hunting badgers, saturday and sunday. New places.
  17. This monday, we were 4. My two sons, André and me. We've gone to a well known place near my kennel. We tried with a young Jack Russell, Hugo, a beginner. After 10 minutes, the dog found an animal. The hunt was moving from one side to another. We begun to dig in order to cut the hunt. We retrieved Hugo at 11h and tried with an older one. Comète is a parson Jack Russell bitch. She was efficient last year but now she's inconstant. The hunt continued in the same way, from side to side. At 12h, I retrieved Comète. Then, my oldest jack Russell bitch, Betty was given the job. She hunts closer the
  18. Sorry, but my english is too bad to play "ping-pong" on the forum with all of you. Prior reminder : We don't go to hunt in order to become little heroes but to have good time. We don't look at badger hunting like some of you. Pleasure is more important than a feat. I don't search the amazing exploit. My arms are too weak, my dogs inconstants, badgers are too smart, earth is too rough. So I'll try to give you some honest explanations.
  19. Leave electronic assistance and come here !
  20. May be I can't understsand because my english is poor.
  21. You don't know the situation in my area. All the places we hunted this year have never been dug. Badgers are numerous, it isn't the matter. In this area, you can't hunt without kill badgers. You are allowed to hunt because you kill. If you you don't kill, you aren't allowed.
  22. After a month of fails, luck came back. For 5 days hunting, we had just one successful. We had never known such difficulties before. Dogs were hunting, may be too big places, probably warm weather. But, for two week-end, luck is with us. These badgers have been caught with a young patterdale, one year.
  23. We don't hunt foxes, just one or two days in the season. But during the winter, it's usual to find fox in the badger's set. So, most of my dogs want to dispatch the fox by themself.
