  1. Maybe we need to curb the 'big' bags being taken, else they could end up on an endangered list. Numbers seem to be down everywhere and although new to hunting myself this seems to be a nation wide issue. Don't get me wrong it must be good to get double figures every time you go out, but, surely they need time to recover? be it from us over hunting them or natural causes. Bri
  2. forgot to say about the cat food. just watch the 'cereal' and salt content as its used in cheaper brands to bulk it out and being carnivours it'll bind them up.
  3. Hi, Ferts/carpet sharks/stinkers whatever you choose to call yours eat meat/specialist dry food. If you go for the dry mix then make sure their water bottles are kept topped up with fresh water daily. Ours are fed on dry mix from the local farm supplies topped up with raw chicken drumsticks (1 a day) or rabbit when there available. Try to give them a mixture of food from a young age as they can become set in their ways and don't take to different foods when older. Also a raw egg once a week wont hurt them. If you can get a copy of 'Working Ferrets' by Jackie Drakeford. Loads of info and wr
  4. Cheers for all the info folks. will post up some pics when we get her
  5. If he really knows his stuff he will be worming them from 2 weeks old Didn't realize there were wormers suitable for that age or is there a new product on the market?
  6. Attach one of the whistle key finders to your spade. as your leaving and whistling a happy tune due to your catch you cant forget it lol
  7. Been to see some bull/whippet x bull/greyhound pups earlier this evening . They're only 2 weeks at the moment but put a deposit down and secured 'pick of litter' The breeder really knew his stuff and is worming them from 4 weeks of age. We were able to meet both of the parents, which was ideal as we have some idea as to the size/temperament they will be when grown up. Both parents were placid, the mother was letting our children (9 and 12) handle the pups with no worries at all and the sire was quiet and well behaved when brought into the house (outdoor dog) Just need a bit of advise as t
  8. Just picked up one of these to pop them in during the summer http://www.eggshellonline.co.uk/mayfair-fox-proof-chicken-coop.html?SID=f4bvdus2pg7r9hn3qkkl56vng2?utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=organic Seen a few people using them on videos and figured if its 100% fox proof then should be ok for the ferts. Opted for the extension run too as will be putting the 3 together after the hob is done. Been through it and you can separate the extra run creating 2 areas if needed. Quality is great. Would have built my own but too busy with other things (like getting them out w
  9. Went down a treat. First rabbit the missus had anything to do with (except feeding the old pets) Daughter wasn't too impressed but son couldn't get enough.
  10. used the same idea myself. Had one kicking round from when we used to walk our old dog.
  11. Got home from work and the missus had put this together for us from sundays catch. Cheers wifey. [/img]
  12. Was speaking to someone the other day fishing for possible ferreting permo. Turns out there over run by mink if you fancy travelling to North Devon
  13. Good write up mate. Very much like my first trip out with the ferts. Second trip should be better knowing those holes are there now. ATB Bri.
  14. Unfortunately I didn't get time to get to the hedgerow today but taken everyone's advise on board and will have a think as to the easiest way when up there. Thanks for the replies folks, and happy days
  15. Started mine off with collars from pretty much day 1 of having them. I find with mine, if I crouch down and scruff them supporting them on my leg, within 3 seconds they yawn (don't know if this is natural behavior) then slip the collar over their head already set to the right size. not slipped one yet, even when they back up through the nets. HTH Bri
  16. My old man has one in the garage. bit of an antique but still works, will see if he wants to part with it for you. I'll get back as soon as I know for you.
  17. They have quite a few friends round the area so fingers crossed she'll pass on my details.
  18. This is the only permission I have to work on at the moment, have asked at others but waiting for phone calls back. There seems to be quite a few around this site. Counted 63 holes along a hedge row at the top of the orchard and looking at probably the same along the top of some woods. As its a working mill the landowner wants me to concentrate on the orchard area mainly but there is a paddock area that needs looking at and in among the woods too. Out again on Saturday so will look at the opposite side of the orchard and hopefully work my way into the middle.
  19. Yeah, really enjoyed it. Only went for a couple of hours but the weather changed so quick it cut it short. Look out bunnies I'll be back!!!!!
  20. Took the girls out for their second outing earlier. Worked a small group just in an orchard and came up blank. Moved across to another group and looked a bit more promising. Sent Pogo down as she is a little shy and only out for the second time. Last time she didn't actually bolt any but I guessed she was trying to tell me they were there. She willingly disappeared down the hole and was gone for a while, popped her head out from another hole but wouldn't come all the way out. She was doing this last time and turned out there was one down there but missed the hole it bolted from. Decided to
  21. Took my two pole jills out l last weekend for the first time Very impressed with them. Just started myself too so it's new to us all. Managed to bolt 2 in the time we were out. If your with other workers then they should pick it up quicker than mine. Having the snow round also helps as you can see which holes are being used. Hope all goes well for you. Bri
  22. My son was looking at model trains for his set up a while back. Turns out he ended up bidding on one that wasn't suitable for the set up he has. Retracted bid, then needed to rebid so went to starting bid. Ended up winning it. Trouble was it was in canada so had to pay loads on postage. As mentioned, you have entered a contract so need to follow it through to the end. Ended selling it at local carbooty for a lot less than I paid for it. Came out of his pocket money though.
  23. Cheers folks, Some good advise and a few options. Will try the hole on the weekend and let you know the outcome. Rabbits out there have never been ferreted so should bolt again, if the little girl remembers how
  24. My son tried some down hill racing but the brake only does one wheel. anyway, he ended hitting a small tree and bent the axle and broke one of the back wheels. Not a scratch on him though. bought the bits but the snow hit before i got to fit them. Still, it can be returned to go-cart if needed at some time.
