  1. Go for polyester if you can, they cost a bit more but are worth it. I went with nylon when starting out, but once I got some polyester nets I hardly touched the nylons again. The nylons Had me sitting untangling every Sunday night, never had to with the polys. I'd suggest 3ft6's, good all round size.
  2. I usually get breakfast before ferreting from the butchers on the promise he gets the extra rabbits, can't beat those steak bakes haha
  3. Ok, Ill joke about breakfast and see what happens haha. Good answer, sounds right. 100% I know how my older jill works and the job will be done, bolts or not.... Her brother will tidy up to be sure I guess this offer of pay is to make sure the job gets done fully and not just to a hobbyists level . Nothing personal against me but they won't want to have me around again But I guess that depends on their fencing. I can promise to clear the warren
  4. True that, already earnt myself some nice new ground this season happy times. Was asked to do a large garden, paid, didn't want to turn down the money... obviously. It would go back into the ferreting at the end of the day.
  5. I do ferret for a hobby and for free, its great even without pay. But was offered a bit of paid ferreting and out of curiosity I thought id ask.
  6. How much do you charge for paid ferreting? So much per rabbit caught? Or do you charge for your time? X amount per field or hedge?
  7. Caught another five today on the same land. Third warren took ages, rabbits were giving the ferrets the run around and towards the end we were too quick to run at them as they bolted and this resulted in us spooking them back down the hole. Kits a ditzy wee jill but still plays her part I suppose, once shes bolted a rabbit and finds out where we have it theres no chance of her going to ground again until shes cooled off. Robin was back again to clean up the worms, must have been the same one, very tame.
  8. Think ill give you a shout for one soon BPR
  9. Thats where I think the stolen ferrets end up.
  10. Is her home nest box one of your pet carriers you use for caching? If not you could get one of those for her nest box and she might start wanting to cache in them straight away. ....?
  11. Gordon Ramsay also had a bash http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKa-axC5hX0 But the footage never comes out great. Unique views underground on this video, bit short though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gga3MerR6no
  12. Springer Spaniel. ... I'd ask the breeder if there was a staffy knocking about when your 'springers' bred
  13. See plenty wildlife when sitting quietly
  14. They would be having too much fun to risk being lifted haha. Also they can be skittish when out, especially kits, a sudden move can send them for the hole if they cant tell it's you. If mine are being funny I'll talk to them and move in slow so they know it's me then let them sniff my hand before trying to lift them.
  15. I think even if a collar did get snagged the ferret would eventually get itself off, they would get too board to not try hard, but doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Even if I can't dig I'll still use a collar. As you found out it's nice to have the peace of mind knowing they are still in the area. My jill managed to wander right past us above ground the other day, through the long grass under the hedge so it's not just holes that let them slip away. I like to work one ferret at a time, but if things go quiet I'll enter another to try and change the situation.
  16. Copy it before trying to post as a precaution. What kind of dog have you got?
  17. Hope it was worth the wait Bought these long nets for this land also, but they've already came in handy for other permissions, don't know how i ferreted without them ....Still came out in scratches and nettle stings though Cheers. As long as it wasn't for nothing and the ferrets get a meat feed, im happy. But even better when there isnt a dull moment, good fun! Good luck! Look forward to the write up
  18. Ferrets play hard, not really a game for a two year old?
  19. what surprises me more is someone has not come up with a ferret collar for the bellman of barryvox, way. way superior in both search and locate range ive never had terriers so never had any experience of barryvox are they very good for the depth finding they have a 60 meter search range (further with a bellman collar) and are as accurate as any ferret finder in locate mode. if someone could make a collar small enough but with good signal strength they would be onto a winner sounds good to me that ,surly an electronic professional could come up with a good system Softwares
  20. you mean the likes of hampton springs cheshire fisheries milton green harthill their just carp puddles Never heard of them u noddy You*
  21. Working on another farm now. Thick thorn hedgerows with two fences, one either side, seven foot apart or so. Had a go at these last year with purse nets, but now being armed with long nets life was much easier. Started with the jills, one almost two years old and a kit born this year. First set... Sorry, Warren* at the bottom of the field bolted two. They ran one at a time in to the longer grass down the hedge. Was impressed with the ferrets, using their noses they tracked them down the hedge into the long grass then bolted them out the hedge into the long net. Good start. Next warren l
  22. The implant has the same effects as castration I'm sure. I wouldn't have thought he would be keen on the jills at all while it lasted. Unless there's some new implant I've not herd of. I'd speak to another vet if I was you they seem to be mixing vasectomy and castration up.
  23. Try get them eating together and just keep an eye on them for a while. Even if theres just a few dominance fights it should still be ok. If there's alot of fighting then just have them together for short periods regularly under supervision until it settles.
