  1. I'd been wondering if it counts as the farmers land until the verge gets to a pavement or road? Farm I'm on just now has holes along the hedges beside the roads, which would mean setting nets on the road side grass verge. Is that ok?
  2. I'd concentrate on a big weather proof run with a hard floor first then put some nest boxes or a small hutch inside it for sleeping. Make it easy to open and clean, makes life easy. My indoor hutch has detachable walls on every side so getting in to clean is no bother.
  3. There will be a bit of scrapping until they know who the boss is but it's fine. If it's causing blood injuries then break then up for a bit, but keep trying.
  4. Add descriptions on the ferrets and box. You must be raging, I'd do something stupid if I caught someone sniffing around mine.
  5. Good write up. Double figures is a good day for me too, it's just down to the land your ferreting, see stories on here of people getting six from a four hole warren, that just doesn't happen for me haha
  6. Yeah I just let them hang on while I chin it then lay it aside and let them rag it a little while I set another net over the hole. Sometimes press on the head to get them off if they are latched on where I need to put my hands or if they are obstructing me threading the rabbits head through the net to chin.
  7. My hob plays games when he first gets out then settles, not much I can do other than let him get over his initial excitement. My jills can get spooked, they don't know it's me all they can see is a large object coming towards them, could be something dangerous in their eyes. So I move slow, crouch down and slowly reach out whilst letting them hear my voice, let them sniff my hand then they will let me pick them up.
  8. I keep mine in house and have them free roammg the living room for play everyday so mine get very human friendly. I understand this doesn't fit in with the majority. But might if you let them out in your kitchen. If they are young I find I best to pick them up for very brief handling, few strokes and a bit of praise often does the job. Especially kits would rather be exploring and playing and don't take kindly to you taking that chance away from them by holding them hostage. So keep it brief - but often. Also getting them to play with you using a toy helps plus giving them treats by hand, all
  9. Try and find someone who ferrets already to take you out for a taste of what it's like. Add a location and you might be lucky and find someone on here near you.
  10. As said the rabbits (and/or ferrets) sometimes move once you start digging. Must be the vibration/noise that spooks them. Not much you can do other than keep checking the ferrets location and dig fast.
  11. It is sport at the end of the day. But if you get an offer paid, why not?! It will always be sport genrally, until the rabbits have a population boost for what ever reason. But if someone asks for a fulfilled pest control job to be completed on their land, give it a good effort. Side note - Do you think scattering ferret crap in/on holes or on the top of filled holes put off rabbits coming back?
  12. Effort needed to eat it. Starving him max (I said max) 48 hours maybe worth a try. Otherwise soaking dry for the time being won't do any harm. He should come round and gain a taste for other things over time, unless he is really ancient.
  13. Some of it's down to the way they are brought up during the early weeks and some of it's down to their individuality. My hob eats anything, he scans my floor/table everytime I let him out. His sister tastes rabbit but never feasts on it, but she loves the hunt. The kit eats everything too but the dry is preferred overall by all because of the lack
  14. So I can only just spin it around their neck without twisting their neck.
  15. Think you will find some vides of small ferrets on YouTube if you search - micro ferrets.
  16. Scouted another hedge out the weekend before, completely covered in holes. Don't know why the farmer didn't point me in that direction on the first day, I guess he didn't want to put me off as theres an old fence inside the hedge with a new fence on each side Looked challenging but I was sure we would catch a few. Did my best to decide where one warren ended and another would start. We did three big set ups during the day, about forty yards of hedge in each go. Long nets either side and twenty purse nets on the holes we could reach. Because of the three fences we couldn't get the stop nets
  17. That was a good buy. Filled it today
  18. As the guys have said sourcing kits from a decent breeder who puts in the early time is half the battle. Other than that i just use my tone of voice, stern "no"s and "oi"s. "Gentle"if it's just play nips that are over the mark. I had one problem kit two years ago, I let them out to have a play and handle them, when she bit me I'd tell her no and put her in a cat carrier for a few minutes so she missed out on her play time, then took her out and gave her the chance to bite again, if she did she went back in the carrier. Can take time and patience with the stubborn ones.
  19. Not a bad score for just looking around a new permission haha
  20. Looks ok on my end. One day the rabbits seemed a bit slow and dopey but they seemed fine on during our other days out on that land
  21. All ferrets are different, none of my three bite me but one will bite other people, but if those other people didnt dismiss her so quickly and put in a little time she wouldnt bite them either.
  22. A mix of things, often they hopped out the hole and just sat listening/looking around then went back in the same or another hole. Some general hole hopping but they never travelled far above ground. We should have put more purse nets down looking back. Stop nets are great at intervals in the hedge. But after getting my long/stop nets I thought it would mean I wouldn't need to purse net much/anything anymore but I was wrong. In future I'll still be purse netting most of what I can as well as long netting it.
