  1. They'd be the first EBT first cross seen on here, plenty say they have 'em but pics are rare. Good lookin pups too. I like the fact that you have used a Saluki cross as the sire, we tend to use the greyhound in Lurcher production without thinking sometimes, using a dog that is worked and regularly kills seems good common sense to me and good to see (and hear) that the EBT grafts well too. Best of luck with 'em, keep us posted
  2. Seen these two at Chirk, very nice, should do ya proud Billie
  3. Like the world ugly finals..........lol Me and Tomo in the Final; (he won ), !!! LOL !!! Cheers I was quite pleased with that photo although Tomo was a bit pissed off as everytime i see him at shows i seem to get a shot of him stuffing his face. I can't call him too much though as he got the beers in Good day out really enjoyed the craic. Just waiting for strong stuff to get in touch with his email address as i got some really good shots for him ( you know which ones matey they've turned out quite well lol) You didn't follow him home did y
  4. Very tidy Is that from the litter that I put up on here, from St Helens??
  5. Sully, it's like this.... I said all I had to say about that little dog on that post, I was gutted, Tracy even more so, BUT we both accept what happened and thats that! We enjoyed our time with Bella and as far as work goes, either of us (me and the Mrs) wouldn't have had it any other way, that little dog died doing what she was born for, what she loved. In over 30 years of keeping lurchers that was the second time i've lost a dog, not a bad 'batting average'. Thing is, when stuff like that happens, it's feckin tough BUT pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get back in the feckin r
  6. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...t=0&start=0 The above is a link to sommat that happened to me last year. Yes its a sickener but lets face it, as Tomo said it's a rarety. You could have just the same ammount of bad luck with any pet dog. I'm sure the pleasure gained from working your dog will far, far outweigh the worry of potential loss.
  7. Cheers for the info... yeh I had kinda guessed the battery was fecked.... and am thinking it was a close call to something more serious...the smell was very bad. Bit pist off as it was my new one... The problem with sealed battery's is, that you have to charge them slowly because they can't get rid of the hydrogen that bubbles up at the lead plates while they are on the charger. On the old battery's, one used to unscrew the tops to let the hydrogen escape, check the acid level in it and job done. ATB Michael Aye Scuba, with them sealed numbers it's all about a slow ch
  8. Stripped that branch better than a Beaver Al, do you keep 'em in a lodge?
  9. :11: Simo, remembered on the way home, I owe you a quid mate
  10. Good show, crackin company and a great day out...... SS seen your bus parked up on the way home..... It won't help ya with those fences this season!!!
  11. Been shot at twice, years ago, sure it wasn't aimed directly at me but when your on your toes and you hear that 'whistle', see twigs shredding and the bang, it's f*****g close enough and I didn't stop to look back! Never had a dog shot at, wouldn't be to happy if I did!!
  12. Yep, riohog, some of the earliest writings of Lurcher production mention the 'legendary' Smithfield collie, the supposed 'ultimate' in Lurcher production but the more I think about it, though I don't doubt Smithfields were the choice of some, by their work they would have passed through many a Shire, where their qualities were well known but just because 'they' were written about and lets face it, Lurchers in print was a pretty rare thing back then, who knows how widespred that cross was? I'll bet that the Smithfield type didn't suit all, just as today, we all have different opinions of what
  13. Pre-ban, for anyone who was out after foxes a great deal, found hares a pain in the arse coming into a call. With the beam hitting it, it would grab a dogs attention and cause a dog to miss seeing the fox creeping up behind it :realmad:. It was a very expierienced dog that would ignore the hare and look beyond to the fox.
  14. Excellent! Put me down for a free copy Bosun...very interesting post that. I know from speaking to the old boys in my family a "lurcher" back in the day was certainly nowt to do with collies. Must have been a parochial thing I guess as certain areas would have their "types." I can't remember what book I was reading, but it was a talking of a fen area lurcher as being a retriever/grey cross. I guess it's the thing with parochial strains being homogenised to the point where you have people telling you that such and such a cross is not a lurcher. If it does the job of a lurcher, it's
  15. Tomo, Chartpolski, you two must be in a state of permanant 'de ja vu' with this one, it'll keep coming up and the doubters will always be there, let 'em doubt .... Leave it boys, leave it....
  16. Just my opinion but as far as your common or garden, supposedly 'traditional' first cross collie greyhound Lurcher goes, through history, they just ain't that common. Until messers Plummer & Hancock seen the niche' in the market (and boy did they market!!) in the early 's, most who championed this cross found it very hard to find a litter of 'genuines'. I would guess thats down to the fact that, those who 'knew' the trials and tribulations of owning and working this type would have found it pretty difficult to locate the 'right type' of collie to produce good sound stock. Living i
  17. If you can do a bit with 'em, it'll make all the difference to both when the season kicks in. Bosun...my season started about two months ago. We are out every day without fail as I live on my permission Aye Stabs, I know how your seasons work down there... Live the dream, your a fortunate man! That line was for those over here
  18. That one at the back looks like its ready for round two! Looks like a good litter Jay, how many you keepin back?
  19. If you can do a bit with 'em, it'll make all the difference to both when the season kicks in. Joe Ox and SJM both have it right too. The key is, to fit a dogs excercise around your daily life, keep it simple to what suits you, that way you'll be able to keep it up and thats far better for your mutt than sporadic bursts when time allows.
  20. You've certainly chose well Dirtwinger and agree MLB, one strong lookin pup for its age, nice long back on him too. Best of luck with him Dirtwinger
