Unless i've had to administer medicines to my dogs I've never weighed 'em, even when a vet has done it, i've never taken much notice, to me a dog need only to be viewed to see it's condition, weight matters little. All that said and I do know that my mutt would be a pound or two heavier if all the parts missing were still intact!

The Working Border Terrier Club
Bosun11 replied to PICK AND SHOVEL's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If you have tried for years, you must really want one,if i really wanted something i would pay the price, this is the same problem that keeps cropping up,there has been a set price paid for borders for years,so why should the man who has worked even harder to keep a working line going sell his cheaper, than those who keep them as pets, surely he is entitled to the same money some people just dont get it and never will ....funny how its a alaunt owner that wrote that I tried the alaunt but it didnt suit, maybe i will get my user name changed to please you,yes some people will never get it, -

A lad on here said that Dave Harcombe tried it about 20 years ago, and it didn't work. The reasons it didn't work was there was no internet and he used alot of show bred stuff, thinking he could get them to work. Just before he wrapped in the borders, Levi Oates offered him 3 digging borders, 2 bitches and a dog that were working, not pups. John getting back to you, I think you have a big task ahead of you and I know quite a few lads up and down the country that would say the same. I love the idea of it, as I am very passionate about border terriers, and I wish you the best of luck in your que -
EP, I'd have a think on how much you want for it based on how much it's actually worth, with an original jacket. I'll bet you'll get plenty of interest and do your homework, as somebody else will

a few good terrierman turned plummber down with interviews when it came to writing the fell terrier book as by then he already had a reputation for writing bull shit..one great terrierman arthur wells who is no longer with us from kendall in the lakes turned him down i know for a fact, which was a shame as wells did alot of diggin with some really good hard dogs Bill did turn plummer down & he was far from polite about it . I know this for a fact , because it was at a show when he was approached & Bill had been taken to the show by my dad who was stood next to him when Bill told him

His finest work, an undertaking I don't think many would do again. Some great men in there and unfortunatley some not so great! Oh, and some 'deliberatley' missing!! As far as i'm concerned though, its a 'must' read. Anyone wanting to look back at the great days of Fell hunting, the terriers and the men who kept 'em needs a copy.

Has the look of the old types, types rarely seen on here or most places these days, damn shame too, RIP.

Quite a few good answers on here to an interesting question, what i'd question, these days is the 'value' and 'credibility' of the word respect. In my youth it was a 'powerful' word used, seemingly, for things of great importance. These days it's been hijacked by street kids and gang culture and though they use it as a word of 'equality' to stabalize their volitile world, what they really should use is the word 'fear'. "He doesn't respect me"! Should be, "He doesn't fear me"! and, usualy sparks retribution...! Sorry for boring.... So, saying 'respect your quarry', these

Mine get tinned mackerel once a week, for anyone wanting to try it make sure you get 'em the stuff in OIL (or tomato sauce) but not the brine!! As for fresh mackerel, deffo, whenever I can get it, they get it, eaten raw & whole. They'll just about polish off any raw fish given and love it, except trout..?

Well mk3, thats easy, you use your loaf and buy two collars from SS, one without a reflective strip and pref in a very dark colour....'Like black'..... Then, you think about where your gonna be lamping that night and if the gaffs a bit 'warm' put the none reflective one on...(your dog, that is!!!!!!!!!) Seriously, if you are on a spot of easy ground, without the fear of looking over your shoulder, these reflective strips make interesting viewing for the lamper

Gotta say, after seeing Strong Stuff's Lith battery I was well impressed, they are the future, of that I have no doubt. As for any other type and how long they last..... Its simple, get yourself a decent dry cell 12v 17aph battery, connect it up and get out and flick the switch, unless your on a full nights 'mission' it'll go the distance, after that, concern yourselves with whats at the other end of your beam instead of piss-balling with fecking fractions!!! -
That takes me back a few years, during the debate on hunting with dogs Johnny Scott used to sign all the books that he was asked to sign with the inscription 'bollocks to blair', i'd hang onto it if i were you, thats a real piece of social history you have there. Thats interesting to know, as I have two signed books with Johnnys BtoB inscription and one in which Clarissa has stated, "Together we'll storm the ramparts of Westminister", one i'll hang on to, it's always made me smile. Met them both many times, two of the nicest people you would ever meet, this country don't make 'em like

say if the dog is worked at 15 month then next season he should be worked more and harder so he breds from him all ok then in the dogs 3rd season he gets a bit of presure on him and worked HARD then the dog jacks you,ve then got a litter of pups that will be about 9 to 12 month old from a dog that jacked Yep, I suppose its up to the owner when he breeds from his mutt but anyone who breeds, especially for himself, really has to look deep, really deep.... Is your dog doing all that you want, all you can give it, are you doing enough with it, is there more in the tank, could it exceed yo

Yer mate your right but with a baby due in two weeks.... Anyways, that Deerhunter turned out to be the most expensive feckin dog bed ever, Teddy Boys never been so warm and dry!!!!

Aye, i'll have to agree with SS, his battery really seems to go the distance on a night out and also on the plus side, that light weight sees him marching boldly across field and hill, vaulting gates and wire and then leaves him fighting fit the next morning! Note to self.... Got's to get me one.....!

Ok, it pains me to do this but here goes.... I have both prints, bought from G.Hosker in the early 's, both have been professionally framed and mounted in dark hardwood. They have took pride of place in my house ever since but a house move forces a very reluctant sale. Sorry, I will not post pics of the prints up, if you know of them, then you'll know what you will be getting. I am willing to take 'sensible' offers only, the buyer can collect if easier, i'm in Merseyside. Please contact via PM, though it may take up to a few days to respond as I currently do not have internet a

Lets have it right Fence Hopper, a dog MUST be capable of taking foxes single handed to be ever called a 'fox dog'. The problem is these days most dogs don't see enough foxes throughout thier lives, let alone a season, to be truley sure they have the minerals for the game. Without getting into the 'great bull debate'....again!! Why folk who did do a lot of foxes, back in the day, used bull crosses is that the chances of a dog quitting were reduced, especially back when American imports were hot off the boat. Greyhounds can be lethal fox machines BUT how many would you have to try to find
