    I have the Lowa Combat gtx and they're like wearing trainers. I need them for the ankle support as mine are made of paper mache. I treat them with the full works cleaner/dirt remover then conditioner then waterproofing and finally parade gloss polish. This will waterproof them but needs to be done regularly. It will also stop the leather from splitting. There are a couple of places that are licensed by Lowa to replace the soles on them. Will upgrade to the Lowa Hunter in a few years when these finally give way.

    I read up about this before. I can see where you're coming from but that many people don't go on the list not because they don't want to donate it's because they never bothered, forgot, on the list of things to do but haven't got to it yet. More lives will be saved by the opt out system which is a good thing. The family as far as I'm aware will still be spoken to though and possibly their permission will be needed but just makes the approach easier for the donation.
