  8. Have decided to forget about using the original wood I had in mind as a work coleague has got me a couple of pieces of zebrano! Apparently its a nice wood to use! :0)

  10. Many thanks jim, once again your assistance is of great help... its becoming an enjoyable little project. :0)
  11. Hi dave, how are you? Ive been loosely considering a change of mod...the twink seems to be favourable...one comment from somebody was that the standard aa mod retains accuracy, ,rather more than various branded other makes or may this comment perhaps be from a biased view.. I dont know how true this is. will have to have a natter abt the simple effective mods later. Looking to make some changes without any overkill.
  12. I can understand the wanting something liggter on the hip as it is a weighty blade.
  13. Im quite tempted to leave the blade pitted as dont want to be over doing it...then just concentrate on the blade edge itself! To get the cutting edge reasonable abt 1mm needs to be ground off just to the point of where the edge starts to curve toward the knife point then grind a sharp edge to it. Alan
  14. Ok the above post of mine has been answered..thanks jim...ok will work with what I have! I managed to hacksaw and tap the rivets out today and wire brush the whole knife down...so far looking good...may have to take away abt 1mm of blade upto where the blade starts to curve then put a new edge on it....or just live with the blade as it is with the abuse dents on it.??
  15. Thats 8mm approx for each piece of wood? My wood is 10mm thick, I thought it may be too thick, or are they sturdy thick handles anyway?
  16. Anybody know the average thickness for the wood handle for one of these knives? My wood is measuring 10mm per side but to me seems a little on the large side!
  17. Thanks bigmac....will look into that...does the mod fit with the norm grubscrew or will I need to purchase the adaptor?
  18. I do agree with your comment 'it is what it is'! A clean up where its pitted, a new edge on it finished with a new home made handle and its still left with some of its history still showing (whatever that may have been) :0)
  19. Im not sure atm whether to try and bring it right back or just clean it up best I can myself from the condition I have it in now. Either way it will definitely be better than it was. :0) any advice on doing either will be greatly appreciated.
  20. Thankyou very much jim... and tou can now be included in the story as well....wld tou know where I can get rivets for the handle and perhaps what type wld be suitable...I had thought perhaps brass ones due to the possible nice contrast with the mahogany! :0)
  21. I have mailed my pics to the kind gent woodsman jim who put my previous pics up so hopefully will be some soon. :0) im a bit of a snail with this pic posting on here..not mastered it yet.lol
  22. After having visited a gunshop today and picking tjeir brains abt moderators etc, im still unsure which type of moderator wld be good to settle for if I decide to change...I have seen an adaptor available to allow me to have more choice...I have at present the aa moderator which I was told there are better more modern choices on the market...anybody had any experiences with different makes please?
  23. :0) mine came back after vapour blasting slightly pitted on the blade but im sure wont hinder the refurb too much...I have been loaned a tin of danish oil for the mahogany handle I plan on making for it...not whether to use brass or steel/mild steel rivets thougg or where to get them from!
  24. My mate said its normally charged at arnd the £30-40 per hr mark for vlasting but said he'd chuck it in for 10-15 mins for a fiver ! So jumped at the opportunity...hopefully will have come up ok..will see tomorrow when I collect it..fingers crossed its come up nice. :0)
