Well I've entered the bet for a tenner. But if it was shot near london then I'm not so sure. If you can have it identified as a Brown Hare by an authoratitive source and send me the documentation, Goldfinch I'll honour the bet.

I'm up for that mate. How are we going to prove it one way or the other?

http://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yfp-t-702&va=mountain+hare I think so.

It's a mountain hare, midway between changing from winter coat to summer coat. But if it was shot in the midlands it's very lost.

I know what you mean. There seems to be a lot less game about than there was. Everywhere is closed off too. Nowhere to roam without being treated like a criminal.

I like the shot of the dog jumping the hedge-at night. Very impressive. As I said in a previous post, I once saw a couple of saluki xs coursing a hare. When they came across hedges they sailed over them with a foot to spare in height. Most dogs will stop short at a hedge and look for a way through. These dogs just jumped them as though they weren't there. It's a great trick to teach a dog-puts a lot more gear in the bag. Anybody else got photos of hedge jumping dogs?

That's very impressive mate. I remember i had a dog of similar breeding which leapt over my back when I was looking over a dry stone wall. The bugger's back legs hit my head and sent it crashing into the wall and bled my nose.lol. It had seen a hare and used me as a feckin ladder.lol.

I remember when I was a kid our local scrapyard had a chained dog which was supposed to be an alsation/ deerhound. Whether it was or not I don't know. With a lot of lurcher types you start with a leggy dog and take away the number you first thought of.lol It did look just like what you would expect an alsation/deerhound to look like.It was never worked as a running dog but was a good watchdog. If a litter from a working type deerhound and an alsation ever came up I'd definitely be interested-or even better a deer/grey/alsation grey from working parents. .

These dogs can jump. A grey/malinois would be some athlete.

I How do you teach a dog to jump hedges? I once saw a oouple of saluki types sailing over 4 foot hedges with plenty of clearance and obviously enjoying it. It certainly helped them get their quarry. It's another weapon in a dog's armoury if it can be taught. I've never been able to teach this to a dog. Not only have they to come to terms with the height but also the spread across the top of the hedge. Any tips?

Start with tiny obstacles. Always use the same command. Give plenty of praise and encouragement. You could try throwing tasty titbits over the obstacle if it's a reluctant jumper. Walk away from your dog, providing the obstacle is not too big, the dog will be desparate to follow and should jump to get to you. Don't overface it by expecting it to jump pig netting topped with barbed wire immediately.. Work up to that only when the dog is jumping consistently and easily clearing the top of the obstacle. Give your dog lots of different jumps. You might find a dog will jump a five bar gate but

Lakeland Fells With A Few Of The Gang....
jukel123 replied to FUJI's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Fantastic photos. How many dogs have you got and what's their breeding if you don't mind me asking? -
Make that £450 in my case about fifteen years ago. Great dog too. There's a saying you only ever lose good dogs, never the pot lickers.lol

Yes I know what you mean. Some dogs are just honest-what you see is what you get. I've got a little bitch here which is 100 per cent honest but her daughter is a chancer. Ducks and dives and is just a bit deficient, but still likeable. If she were a bloke and you needed her back up in a fight she's be gone! Her mother would be right by your side though. Temperament is a strange thing. I had a pure bred GSD which was a devil on the chain. You would think she would rip an intruder to pieces but she was soft as shit with people. But I ran her on the lamp just for fun and she would kill and tac

Biggest Mink You Have Seen/caught ?
jukel123 replied to shotgunny's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I saw a mate of mine grab hold of one thinking he was grabbing hold a ferret down a hole. He's a great big fella but did he scream when he brought out the bugger attached to his hand.lol I'm laughing now at the thought of it. I think mink are like ferrets-some can grow helluva big. -
No problem bunnys. I understand your point, I'm no great lover of aggressive dogs in any form. It was just a thought.

Regarding the type of collie used in the cross, Hancock told me he only used stable, friendly collies as stud dogs. He reckoned they produced stable friendly pups. He might be right but maybe pre- ban they would also lack the minerals for fox. Maybe he would be better using 'psycho' aggressive collies that frighten the life out of you when you come across them on farms? Since a lot of collie crosses come from his place, if he used tougher collies his reputation might improve. Just a thought.

A few years back I bought a deer/grey pup. I kenneled it with two other dogs with a heat lamp at nights. It whined and howled for a full month. The other dogs were fine with it. When I walked it it would whine non stop. In the van it would whine non stop. The only time it stopped whining or yodelling was when I stroked it or picked it up. After a month my nerves and my partners nerves were fecked and the neighbours coud'nt stand it any more so I gave it to a rescue for rehoming. It would have made a good pet for someone who could be with it 24 7. I still think about what if anyt

Starting a young lurcher on the lamp without teaching recall first. Ruined a great dog.(Tosser) Running a dog too hard to the point it was staggering with exhaustion.( Feckin idiot.) Running a dog with a loose collar which caught in a barbed wire fence as it was jumping.( Arsehole) Kenneling two bitches-result fighting, and bad injuries. (Amateur) Always having one too many dogs.

Cheers bud.

What would he be like on bigger game pre- ban do you think? Would he be up for them or only interested in rabbits?

I've got 7 pups eight weeks old. I'm keeping two, the rest have gone to friends. Five of the pups had a skin problem which responded to Noroclav antibiotic. The worst two had tiny patches of hair loss the size of a matchstick. The others had tiny 'bumps' on their faces, not quite scabby, but flaky. The flakes came off with olive oil after the antibiotic had done its trick. The vet said they could have been bitten by a bug. But what? Fleas? There was no sign of any fleas or any other bug. The pups are almost fully recovered now, bumps disappearing and hair grown back. But what caused the

I've a 5 year old saluki lurcher bitch. For the last couple of years every couple of months she goes off her food and only wants to eat grass. She continues this for maybe a week and is then back to normal. When she's vomiting she's not ill in herself, she's keen to run and is happy enough. At the moment she's off her food not bothering with grass but spewing clear fluid at nights. Perfectly happy to work or play. Any suggestions?

I think you missed the part of my post where I said: 'Dogs that pick their runs even when thay have a chance of catching are not worth a feck'. I prefer the word 'Quarry' because hare coursing is now illegal bud.
