    I've always preferred a tight beam on the basis that it's more confusing for the quarry and easier for the dog to follow the quarry. But |i was out with some lads recently who prefer a really wide beam. They reckon it makes no difference and if anything it's easier and safer for the dog. Also I tend not to slip the dog unless the quarry is really close to the dog say fifteen to thirty yards. To me it's all about percentages. I don't want to knacker the dog on long slips where it's chances are poor. The lads I were with slip on hundred yards if need be with doubled up dogs. These lads also th

    I remember a litter of 11 bull/ minshaw pups. No fewer than 9 of the litter had killed themselves before they were a year old. They were so driven they were psychos. I saw one work and it was so reckless I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. They weren't exciting to watch, they were horrible, because your heart was in your mouth all the time. I remember on one occasion it tried to jump a 12-14 foot diamond mesh fence after a rabbit. There's drive and there's dangerous recklessness. Maybe the lad has a bullcross which falls into the madly reckless category.

    I had a lurcher bitch which was a dead ringer for Fenn. Some lowlife stole her from me 7 years ago. She'll be pushing up daisies now as she was 5 when she was stolen. Gyp my bitch was collie/ grey/ beddie/grey. What's Fenn's breeding if you don't mind me asking? Gyp would retrieve rabbits to hand and also foxes. Was it Fenn that retrieved the foxes?

    I only have bitches in my kennel at the moment.. I have no problems with fighting. A friend is going on holiday and has asked me to kennel his non dog aggressive bull cross. Frankly I'm scared to upset the harmony in the kennels, especially as the incomer will be capable of serious damage if he's involved in a fight. Are dogs less likely to attack bitches and vice versa?

    The only rabbit i ever remember seeing in Salford Floyd was on the roundabout nearest to white City dog track. Used to feed oblivious to passing traffic etc. I was born and bred in Ordsall, where you from? The only hunting in Ordsall was other gang members. I don't live in the dirty old town any more, I made my escape.

    There's an old saying ' bitches make stitches'. I wouldn't get another bitch mate, get a dog and have one of them spayed if you don't want pups. Leaving two bitches together is a risky business. They may be ok for years and then kick off. I'm speaking from experience.

    I've had some success at training dogs to obey a whistle. Has anybody successfully incorporated into their whistle repetoire a tone for'No!' Stop what you're doing right now you fecker!' I've often thought such a whistle command would be useful for instantly correcting a young dog. Any thoughts?

    I had a collie grey who was a great guard. One night after a night on the sauce i decided to demonstrate my dog's fierceness to some mates. I grabbed the mrs and pretended to give her a hiding. The dog leapt to her defence and bit me on the lip and the arm requiring six stitches. My mates thought it was the funniest thing they'd ever seen and my mrs still pisses herself laughing at the memory.
