  1. Good read but its not just 2 or 3 people, there`s a large network of dogs moving around the the country some go to lurcher folk and breeders, and others rescue kennels taken by animal rights people, these dogs are re-homed which is a Happy Ending for some very sorry looking lurchers, if you Brag about your dogs on the likes of here then you can expect problems from all types. I think most of you know full well..22
  2. My little tyke is Naff at lamping but loves a bit of cover! Had a good all-rounder some years back bedlington x greyhound..
  3. Is The Old English Black & Tan Terrier Really Extinct Or is the German Hunting Terrier the one and same dog HISTORY 18th century Pest controller, and Warrener, John Hulme, was a enthusiastic devotee of the sport of rabbit coursing, he crossed Whippets to the Old English black & tan Terrier to produce a tenacious, streamlined lurcher type animal better suited to the sport of rabbit coursing and a Working dog. This cross proved so successful that it was repeated, resulting in the establishment of a definite type, the Standard Manchester Terrier a small Whippet type lur

  5. I would go for Dam : laguna whippet x collie Sire, or a whippetbeddy some of the beddy I have seen were a bit head strong when lamping pore recall..!
  6. Try walking off and dont turn round just keep walking, I bet he will come running it worked for one I had, and when she did come running I said GET f---ing HERE put the lead on and went home end of hunting for her that day. Try this when walking with the lead on let them pull in front then say GET BACK with a yank they soon get that Get Back means get back to your side, or give a

  9. Bu Hi lad, Buddy is going over Sally I am trying to line up a first cross Working Whippet x collie for pepper for 2014
  10. I haven't had to cull any pups over the years as they have all came out right, I dont breed that often now, BUT when you bring in new blood you do get the throw backs to whats in the new blood line, last time 1 of the pups was very whippet y fast little bitch turned on a sixpence , and others were like collie greyhound, and some like Saluki whippet all short coated and black and tan.
  11. I want whippet collie blood genes next coming into my line but as i have said i dont like creeping collies lurchers for lamping and they are better collies out there, No this pups in the photo is not mine but its the type i want to use next, hence this is why i am here looking but i just cant find the right type dog or breeder hence the helping hints.
  12. I dont think you would know if you had a lined bred dog, most of the best hare dogs lines have been going years and I have yet to see a deformed litter and I have bred lurcher for many more years than i have terriers, you will only get problems if you go the wrong way, like mother to Son if you go that way yes you will get deformed pups.
  13. yes hit the 3 insted of 4 , its a tip at the end of the day, those trying to breed a certain type! paulus Very good read but this is really just line breeding! like kc dogs. which is for once you have the type you need!! to keep the type going. I do this with my dogs ! it quote galtons law. thats what will determine the percentaces or charactoristics in any offspring Yes I have line breed over the years too Sire to daughter then full brother to full sister then bring in new genes fresh blood, then back to grandfather to granddaughter and back to breeding full brother to full
  14. yes hit the 3 insted of 4 , its a nice tip for new breeder at the end of the day, those trying to breed a good fast type first good! paulus Very good read but this is really just line breeding! like kc dogs. which is for once you have the type you need!! to keep the type going. I do this with my dogs ! Paid Good point about the dominant black and tan colouring genes as all jack russels have the Black and Tan gene, but the main point I was making was the taking the shape of the mother and not the father =Dam 60% Sire 40%
  15. I am looking to line up a nice type working whippet x collie stud dog for 2014, a B&T or red fawn dog would be ideal, or tri-coloured, size 21" to 22" Collie whippet, I have read that the first cross don`t take the shape of the whippet ? I read in an old dog breeders book Some years ago now that Pups take 60% of their make up from the mother and only 40% from the father. Well I think this could be right! I used to breed a legy type bull terrier with a short coat black and tan over jack russels around 20 years ago, 2 of the jacks had short legs and a broken coat, and the o
  16. They was a small number of Red kite in wales, I myself have been to wales to see them over the hills back in the 1970s. But they died out in England and Scotland years ago, check the records over the last 100 years, the birds which were over Aston in a 12 bird flock have cleared these fields and moved to another area, the odd pare would not be so bad on other wide-life but birds moving in small flocks 6 to 12 is silly! bad news for people which like as I do to see a range of other wide-life!!
  17. When were they imported? They was only around 20 pares left in wales. The RSPB and the Joint Nature Conservation Committee therefore initiated the re-introduction of kites at two separate locations - one in southeastern England the other in north Scotland - imported Red Kites of Spanish and Swedish origin respectively. These re-introductions began in 1989 and have since successfully re-established breeding populations at both localities. Equally successful releases have since been undertaken at other sites in both countries, so that by 2000 England could boast 132 breeding pairs, and S
  18. Well good news and bad, I walked 6 large stubble fields today which held lots of hare just to see if they were still around, and guess what not one was seen! I was stopped by a keeper on the way back, he ask what I was up-to as they do! So I asked him if he had problems with Red kites, he said them thinks had been taking all his birds! not a happy chap The good news is not one Kite here now good job too i say, why have they imported these birds into Britain they must be off there silly heads..
  19. looks the same type as ours was liver and white, will be getting another pup in the spring! she stood about 14" If you dont want to be standing around when a dog has gone to ground DONT get a jack Russell , if you just want a dog for bushing out game and putting the likes of hare up, you wont do better than the dog bred for the job! springer, I use a springer x jack she wont take game of any kind but she will get up there ase and push them out.
  20. I would get a pup mate, at least you will know the true breeding and wont be buying a dog with problems, plus you can bring it on with the ferrets and have a bit of fun training up. plenty of tips for training on the likes of youtube, there was a nice litter of pups on the website www.preloved 3/4 working wippet 1/4 collie.
