  1. and of course if anyone wants to swap a day on the barbel for a day on the pike I'm happy to do that
  2. Hello barbel anglers, I'm primarily a pike angler in the winter but i would like a session or two on the barbel, something special about this fish. Looking for somewhere within 3 hours of Kent ideally. I know how fishing works I'm not after your secret swims and tacics, but would just like some information, I usually find my fishing spots on Google maps but travelling 3 hours to find a private land or no fishing sign isn't my idea of fun, knowing how often this happens. Day ticket waters or just somewhere I can park close to the river will be fine, I'm not after record breakers just want
  3. You're right Rez, that's why I thought I'd ask on here, follow the familiar names/faces
  4. I'm sure there is a few of you that post on your instas more than you do write ups on here, what are your Instagram names? (mods if you don't like the idea of people being pulled away from the forum delete the topic) Alan. ned_lezyah on Instagram
  5. Wow I'm not one for carp but that comes down to being a predominantly river angler, but even I want a go at those carp, stunning fish, from a lake wouldn't interest me in the slightest
  6. Picked a spot on Google Maps on a river I haven't fished before, so the 4.15 alarm was set, when I got there it was club water only no day tickets, so a quick scout on Google for another likely looking spot, on the way there I drove past a boat hire sign so turned around on the off chance I could fish there. The river looked good so out come the rods, only had half a mackerel in the water for 5 minutes when she picked my bait up image hosting over 5mb 19lb. Had a 10lb fish to follow, then the 19lb took my bait again in the evening, this time a live roach, they never learn lo
  7. where about's did you catch that perch from?, Sam's lake in headcorn About 6 inches off bottom but change it up every few casts
  8. Not too far from where I had that perch ;-) I'm guessing you have moved away now then?
  9. 16-18 be my guess mate, but as always, we'll never know.unless you catch her again with scales ? nice fish
  10. Having endured two blanks in the previous weeks catching everything but perch, finally managed five perch on Sunday this one being the biggest, after a couple of blanks you really do appreciate the not so big fish TL Alan
  11. Warm weather means less oxygen in the water resulting in the fish needing more time to recover as they are hard fighting. Lure fishing is more suited to summer because you have instant connection to the fish hooked in the mouth, whereas they will swallow deads/lives sharpish when it's warm as they are active so more chance of deep hooking.
  12. Not tried it myself, do fancy a bit of piking in one though!
  13. Don't know why I've never seen passion for angling before, watched the mid winter one earlier, proper fishing, none of this running out of bivvies every 2 minutes that's on tv now
  14. That's a decent offer you don't get that much in the angling world these days sadly
  15. I've started mate, could have a frost tomorrow then back to 14 degrees the next day, no point waiting for it. If it's cold enough for coat and trousers I'd say it's cold enough for piking. Also, our rivers are f****d at the moment so I'm glad I had a couple of nice fish before all this rain
  16. yeah exactly lol is that not a big ball of ground bait and the bait is the multicoloured bit in your hand?
  17. Ok mate nice one, I'm guessing you have your bait runner on or do you just use drag? How long does the tungsten tubing need to be? Cheers, Alan.
  18. Don't suppose any of you boys could post a picture of your rigs and throw some tips my way, a club stretch that I pike fish on I've been told about a couple of double figure barbel coming out in the last month, never caught one myself so I'd like to have a bash, cheers
  19. Of course mate, can't beat a river fish, a couple of screaming runs then she swam towards me so I scooped her up
  20. I'd rather someone says it looks bigger than my said weight rather than smaller though :-)
