Nice one Adam..........I'm sure he will do you proud when ready. Samson has some substance to him as well. I've got two 5 month old Plummer pups on the go.........one off Dave Bell, Barnsley and one of a local lad Chris Gould. They're blood related. The dog Odin is a right chunky b#gger whereas Polly, off Dave, is finer boned and smaller. She reminds me of my old bitch Wyremead Winnie. She was the best ferreting dog I've ever had. Never lied to me once re' locating bunnies at home. Atb mate. -

Gwalchmai...........I'm so pleased that you have Tanner and that you're bringing her on so well. I bred Tanner here in Stoke but let her go to a bloke I know ( Andy) who in turn let her go to Gaz. In some ways I failed with Tanner ( a first re' my Plummers if I'm honest). I became so busy with the rest of my adult Plummers, ratting etc that I didn't get her started early enough. My fault. So I'm genuinely happy that you have tapped in to her potential and have started to give her plenty of work. I read your Countryman's Weekly article and felt a sense of pride but the credit goes to you. I've -

Hi mate, yeh well over a year ago we did one of Liam's perms, hence one of the photos. I don't think Peter has his Plummers now. Not sure to be honest but I think he parted with them. A pup he had off me (Samson) ended up with Steve Parfitt. I love the ratting. We are trying to build up our perm' right now, knocking on farms etc. Do you know Jamie Smith, also from Stoke? We do a lot of ratting/rabbiting together but he's more into the digging and his lurchers. He's a belting dog man and good mate of mine. ( Trojan Plummers ). -

You guys in Wales have a great reputation for working your terriers and for me personally,Plummers (which are my passion). Good on you. I like the Remlap lines who's blood is in my lines ( Trentside Plummers). My mate Jamie Smith, also from Stoke, has remlap in his dogs ( Trojan Plummers). Good hunting guys for the 2016/2017 season. -

I bred Tanner here in Stoke On Trent. I've had Plummers for many years and trust me they are superb all-round hunters who excel at ratting. I will be open and honest and say that I haven't done any earth work for years. Ratting and rabbiting is my game now, and being in my 60's its much easier lol. There has been much talk in the past about on "how good are Plummers as earth dogs ? " Well I would say most Plummers are not used for earth work but I have witnessed some who are as good as any Lakie or Patterdale/Fell types. I guess it's down to how you enter and bring a dog on. Hiya mate. Is Tanner the young bitch originally from Stoke On Trent , Staffordshire ? If so she must be Trentside Tangle who I bred. Atb, Phill Kettle, Stoke. -
I know this dog . It hasn't got saluki in it. It has got a good dose of collie though ( border ). In my experience the collie input can be seen in two lights.....................either it adds sagacity, some brains to the lurcher mix or it CAN add some degree of intractability. I guess in the case of my mates bitch ( she isn't in season ) she a young bitch ..............still very much in pup mode and therefore wants to play around a bit, which is understandeable. When it comes to working however........................it must be remembered that she is a lone dog with no experienced dog bes

Brilliant Romany. Sparrowhawks are on the increase everywhere. Here in Staffordshire sparrowhawks and buzzards are a fairly regular daily sight. Only the other day I was sitting under an oak tree in the fields with my Weihrauch HW97K air rifle . I was squirreling. As I was having a fag a sparrowhawk flashed in yards from me and had a small bird. Almost certainly a dunnock or maybe a robin. I startled it and it flew off with the bird in it's talons. It's not the first time Iv'e witnessed this. Pity you were not there with your camera Romany ! All the best , Phill.k.

My bedlington whippet was 18" tts , a blue rough coated bitch. Extremely well bred but a bit scatty temperament wise. This would be the beddie input. These crosses often remain 'pups' until they are about two years old but when mature make great rabbiting dogs. Being on the smaller size they can accelerate rapidly for the first 50 yds and can turn on a sixpence. Thus these lurchers make great rabbiting dogs in areas with small fields where the rabbits have the advantage of reaching the safety of hedgerows or drystone walls more easily . They are very good on the lamp. These crosses are ofte

Grey squirrels are perfectly legal quarry when shooting with an air rifle providing you have permission on the land. Winter and early spring are the best times to shoot them when their is little or no leaf cover on the trees. Squirrels can be elusive and are easily spooked by sudden movement or noise so good stalking skills are a must. Squirrels can also freeze in trees and become almost invisible so patience is needed. They will often skirt around a tree trunk as you move around so just wait and only shoot when you have a clear shot. Head shots are the most effective but sometimes a body shot

That's a brilliant method Paul. I also tend to bait for squirrels but simply place a good dollop of peanut butter on a low branch. I add barley or corn to the peanut butter. Squigs are creatures of habit and more often than not use the same trees and branches when passing through woods and copses so this too can be an effective method for bringing them in when shooting. I have two Weihrauchs..............the HW97K .22 and the HW80 .177. The 97K is heavy but very accurate when the scopes are zero'd properly . I zero to approx' 25yds. I had an Air arms TX200 and this came a very close seco

Hello everyone. Great to be on this fantastic forum. For most of my 60 years I have had a passion for all fieldsports particularly working my lurchers and terriers on all legal quarry. I love mooching about on my permission land with a dog and my air rifle or spending a day ferreting. I still go out lamping but not as much as when I was younger and fitter !! I enjoy fishing too. I enjoy writing articles for various dog and fieldsports magazines. I am a founding member of the European Plummer Terrier Society and a committee member. Plummer terriers are my favourite dogs along with lurcher
