  1. i am from huyton mate, and their are a few good terrier lads from round here. The pup he got is bred well, from some well tested dogs.I have already told the lad what I know,he seems happy enough with the dog, hope it does him proud in the future.
  2. I know someone who had pups about the same age as yours,he offered me one but I didnt have space for it.Was the fella who bred them there or working abroad?
  3. As in the majority of cases, when handler and dog come into the live game situation, the weaknesses in both will soon create a picture of how the handler has guided his/her dog through it`s initial informative months and subsequent training, basically your reaping the seeds you have sown. But, what also can happen this time of year is that the dogs "polish" can also go off,in that i mean with the dog in constant work mode, handlers cannot correct their dogs on a full blown shoot day,my own dogs,no exception...I can`t really get out to a Lab when it`s pulling me on the whistle a few hundred yards a

  5. When I wrote catch up to her I didn't mean I chase her,I stay level with the other beaters and when I am up to my bitch I cast her off again
  6. I am new to working cocker spaniels and I beat one day a week on a local shoot.I have a bitch who is coming on well but now that she is getting faster through cover she is working too far in front of me.A beater on the shoot has told me to stop her with the whistle and catch up to her and set her off again, she stops every time no problem but does anyone have any advice for me on ways to keep her closer in to me.Cheers
  7. I was already leaning toward the dog from our shoot. With me not having lots of experience of working cockers i asked some on the shoot for their opinion and it is why I have asked on here. The dog from our shoot is sired by Chyknell Goldstar and has a very good pedigree his owner told me,he is a classy dog and a prolific shagger as well so I think he will be the one i use.Cheers for the advice
  8. lockslane Archibald is the ftch. The keeper said the pups would go easier if I put the ftch over her.Two of the lads who want a pup from her are close friends. She is a small bitch and some on the shoot have said she won't carry many pups,I would'nt know,I have bred litters of terriers before and have always gone for the best dog I have saw working to ground over a bitch not sure with working cockers thoughJust as an aside mate, the fact that your bitch is small in no way means she'll have only a few pups.thought that myself mate

  10. I have a working cocker bitch and beat with her on some local shoots. Some of the other beaters have said to me that they would like a pup from her.She has a 5 gen pedigree with over 40 ftch in it and I am down to two dogs to mate her with, one is a ftch that has been used by the breeder of my bitch over some of his other bitches, the other is a dog off one of the beats who is very good in the beating line and finds well when picking up,he impressed me from the first time I saw him working. Some have told me to put her to the ftch and others have said the other dog.I am just after some advice off
  11. I had my first day out on a driven shoot today,i took my young cocker out with me,i let her work through the woods and a carrot field but kept her on the lead in the game crops, she did well for her first time out and even picked up some mallard. All in all i had a crackin day and can't wait for my next outing with her
  12. I have a one year old cocker bitch and I will be working her on some local shoots this season.I have got her retrieving well, stop whistle, recall, all fine,I walk her on some local fields with not much scent about and she quarters well, staying tight to me about 5 to 10 yards in front and she turns to the whistle fine as well,I took her out today to a wood with the odd bunny, squirrel and pheasant knocking about, sent her off and she shot off wouldn't turn to the whistle, she stopped for the stop whistle and recall straight away but every time she went again she was mental with the scent about and I
  13. Should have a cull on the filthy anti scum as well
  14. I was stopped by a fella who I chat to sometimes while walkin the dogs,he has a young cocker bitch who flies through cover she is only a pet though, anyway he has asked me if I know anyone who wanted the sire to his bitch,he hasn't been worked,is 4 years old I think he said and is kc reg,if anyone is lookin for a dog to use for bushing it might be worth taking on,they are naturals when it comes to working cover and it wouldn't take much training to get it going. If anyone is interested Pm me
  15. I am staying in messingham soon, anyone put me on to any decent stretches of river to try whilst I am there?I know the lower trent is nearby but don't know what stretches I can fish
  16. been told thats a good river i don't catch as many off the Ribble as I do off the Severn, but the Ribble definitely produces bigger fish for me.Pellet and Groundbait in a feeder for me but if the river is up I use dynamite monster crab boilies and a Pva mesh bag.Tight Lines
  17. Going on the ribble can't wait to get a bend in me rod off a big barbel
  18. What test curve are they mate?
  19. i used kick its arse as a figure of speech, didn't mean it literally, though I have felt like doing it on occasions. The dog socialises every day with my other dogs and is fine it is only when out for a walk that she does it.She is my first spaniel, but I have had working terriers for over 20 years,I have been getting advice from friends who work spaniels and from watching DVDs and when I have her out in the field on her own she is doing everything I ask of her but I know that I will find out how well she is coming on when it comes to beating with her, thanks for the advice it is appreciated
  20. I have a 9month old cocker spaniel bitch, she is coming on really well in her training but when she goes near other dogs she goes hyper around them and I don't know what to do about it,I can't give her a kick up the arse cos the other dog owners wouldn't be too amused. She is penned up in the garden with a young border terrier and doesn't do it with her and when I let her out with my other two terriers she is also fine.Any advice welcome
  21. My second eldest lad lives on the farm pip,Liam coyle,he is always out an about round Knowsley way with his mates an their pack of dogs
