  1. Hi Started reloading for my .243. Tried Hornady V max 75gr and Nosler 90gr ballistic tip with Varget and H4198 with no success, even after varying the distance to the lands. Is anyone actually reloading for this rifle out there that could point me in the right direction?
  2. Sound advice. I've got the same problem. Fox is visiting in broad daylight. Three gone so far and the first and last time it was seen, it was disappearing across the back lawn at 2pm with a hen in its mouth. That two occasions before that there has been no trace of the attack, no feathers..nothing, and no times I've put a cage trap down for two weeks baited with rabbit and it wont touch it .I haven't got a camera trap and even if I had, i'm not sure its taking the same route in so I wouldn't know where to put it. I've just built an alarm clock trap which is a celebrations tin with a £1 a
  3. Just looked on the internet and its £17 for the full kit. Proper job. Thanks a lot
  4. Hi all.. About four years ago I got a HMR cheap 'cos the stock was painted gloss black. Apparently the previous owner thought the rabbits he was shooting in the dark could see the stock I'm going to sell it to finance a new .223 and I' looking for ideas on how to refurb the stock to it original glory. I've also got a spare stock for it. The black one is in good nick but the spare is battered. Either one will involve stripping and sanding, then putting on some sort of protective coat. I'm a bit of a doofus around this sort of thing, Has anyone done this before who could give me a bit of
  5. You don't say what type of shooting you're trying to get or what sort of guns you got but I've often found that its out of the farmers hands when it comes to permissions. You got to b seriously lucky to land on your feet cold calling cos someone with a lot of cash has had the idea before you Do you do any beating? I always found that the farms are normally home to some sort of game shooting operation who pay the farer for the rights so its probably them that would have the say so Get in with them. particularly the keeper. Do the beating, work parties, whatever it takes They probably do th
  6. Lion shite works a treat. Tough to get hold of tho..
  7. You'd have thought that the JR would have bit the birds head off. If it was me, and the hawk was on the floor mutilating my terrier, clog dancing would have been the order of the day. Flat Harris Hawk
  8. Just get on Guntrader. You'll be spoilt for choice
  9. Mines a Howa 1500 sporter. The rifle was good with 32gr Hornady factory, but wouldn't stabilise the 40gr Hornady factory. I now handload 39gr Sierra Blitzkings on top of Benchmark powder. Sub half inch groups at 100yds. Superb calibre. Only drawback is its non legality on deer in Eng and Wales
  10. We generally go out at dusk, but it picks up the later it gets
  11. I'd agree with that. Loads of keepers I know have Vitaras because of their v light body weight. Not a lot of room to carry kit though. Whatever you do, no matter what the cost, don't buy a Freelander 1. They truly are shite. Im an L200 man now, and I luv it, but got to have the right tyres. Good luck Skully
  12. My first rifle was a Sauer .270, a beautiful gun, but, IMHO, a truly awful calibre. Kicked like a mule. Biggest mistake I ever made My advice would be to ask for a .308, a far more user friendly round. I'm sure theres those who would disagree, but I have had both, and I would stand by my comments.
  13. Usually a sign that they are in good condition, ie well fed
  14. Generally correct, but it depends sometimes on the make of bullet EG My 204 is a 1 in 12 twist rate, too slow to stabilise a Hornady 40g V Max, but OK for the 32g V Max. However, the 39gr Sierra Blitzking IS stabilised by the existing twist. I reckon I would still go for the 1 in 8 though Skully
  15. I have to admit, this is a mistake I have made in the past, and I have to teach him to trust me again as you say. Thanks for all your advice
  16. Forget 17HMR on foxes.Centrefire all the way, its more humane. My choice is .204 for foxing and .22LR for rabbits. 7HMR on rabbits is too loud.Use a bit of firldcraft, get closer and quietly whack it with your 22
  17. Hi Moran I started loading .243 and .204 about 5 months ago, for hunting. I went for the RCBS Master Supreme kit, which retails in the Bushwear catalogue at £449.99p + postage. I went to Optics Warehouse and got the whole lot for about £100 less than that. They were good as the Speer manual that comes with itdoes not carry data for .204, so they immediately swapped it for a Hornady manual, which does. Its a great starter pack which will get you going immediately Over and above that you have to buy your dies. I don't know what your into, paper punching or hunting, but Redding competition
  18. Cheers Billy Im going to try that long lead. Skully
  19. Hi everybody I have a problem with my 4 yr old spinger in that he works too far in front.(40yds) Is there a tried and tested traning method of reducing that distance so he works to about 10 yrds. Its my fault in that I have let it slip over the years, and the first day out yesterday was a bit of a nightmare as, due to a new knee, his usual pre season regime has not taken place. Any tips??
  20. Have u reported it to the police? Strikes me that if theres any evidence to b gathered, they'll do it for you. Tyre tracks, dabs, CCTV witnesses...its their job. Its a bit of a niche crime area as well, so that could assist. What've you got to lose? Good luck
  21. They look fabulous. Look a bit out of my price range tho. That particular one in the photos, how much did you sell it for?
  22. I got an ASE Utra North Star on my .243 Tikka T3. I don't think it moderates the sound that well, but does decrease the recoil significantly. Overall, its not bad for the price.
  23. I actually tried to buy one of these a couple of years ago, but at the time there were none in the country, and the dealer could not tell me when there would be some available. I gave up waiting in the end
