    Here's a link (http://www.versatiledogs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=12269), the topic: Are the GWP and the DD seperate breeds? You can imagine when people are passionate about their breed emotions start to run high, and some people start acting like fools, attacking each other's points-of-view. There's a lot of information in the beginning, but then the orginal topic takes a turn for the worse, just wade through the BS / argueing. -- Steve

    Go to www.mustwork.co.uk these are one of the best working gwp kennels in the country!!! Okay, here's my question. Do you want a German Wirehaired Pointer or a Deutsche Drahthaar? Deutsche Drahthaar translates to German Wirehair Pointer, but they are not the same dog breed. The two breeds are growing very much apart. From my understanding of what I've read the German Wirehaired Pointer has more flexiability in how it's bred because it doesn't have to adhere to the strict German Standards; that has good and bad points.     Get an HPR; that way the dog is capable of changing with your hunting style. I have two Wirehaired Hungarian Vizslas, and they are easy in the house, Gentle with people and other animals (my daughter’s best friends), hunts close and easily handled off leash; they have a heavier coat, and a more substantial frame, better suited for working in cold weather and retrieving from icy water. They loves to retrieve feather or fur.

    I read the GSP and fox thread and saw the post by Lampinglurcher and his Golden Retreivers, and I started thinking that I haven't seen many Goldens working. I know they were bred to work; they're loyal, and have a great degree of cooperation, biddability, and stability in temperament. My question: why aren't we seeing the breed used as much as Labradors, GSP, Deutsch Drahthaars, Griff, brittanies, etc...?

    I love reading about fathers taking their son(s) hunting. Unfortunately, when my sons were young I was going to school and working, so we didn't have much time to spend in the woods, and now they're much older and we all live in different parts of the world, so getting together is rare. Enjoy your time with them because it'll go by tooo fast. I went ferreting in Germany a few years ago, and loved it. I have been invited to go ferreting 30 DEC, and I can't wait!

    Kris, I couldn't pull-up the link, but in your opinion why is this a good thing? I'm from Texas about 35 miles from Waco, and I've run some sort of dog most of my life. I didn't realize rabies was that big of a deal in Central Texas.

    A beatiful dog; doing what a good dog ought to be doing! Hi welshwizard. I'd go with the German Wirehair. If you put your work into it. You'll be well pleased. I've a German one here in the states. He is a staunch pointer, A hell or high water retriever. (force fetch). He blood tracks deer and bears and is very hard on vermin. These are all older pics that I have here at work. Crossing them with other gun dogs makes no sense in my opinion Good luck whatever you choose.

    She looks nice; how old is she and where did you purchase her. Do you or has she been used for water retreiving? What prompted you to get a HWV over other upland breeds? I have a deposit on a male pup from Zoldmali Kennel in hungaria, if all goes as planned the breeding will take place in the beginning of May.

    Johnathan, there are plenty of people working Patterdales in Texas; I know because I hunted with them before moving to Germany. I don't know many folks in north Texas, but in northeast Texas: Damon Wilks (started my hunting hobby), down near Huntsville (Patterdales and Hog hunting), East Texas there are a few, and Okalohma. I hope you find someone; it's always nicer to have a digging partner. What do you hunt with, and what have you hunted. -- Steve
