Make your own rowan berry jelly to go with it , it's the best. You can also add bacon to give it extra fat and dark chocolate about a half hour before its done. Enjoy.

Collins did a really good small pocket field guide. Roger Phillips is the best as has been already said but it's A4 sized . You need to be 100% on your id . As some are edible and others poisonous and just to confuse you even more others are edible but become poisonous if taken with alcohol. Always keep a small bag of what you eat in a bag in the fridge so if it does go pear shaped and you accidently poison yourself you can show doctors what it was you ate. It's easier to id the fungi from the bag than from your sick.

My youngest wants to be a gundog trainer so we were over the shore with the dog for a bit of retrieving practice .

Good call mate , take your time you don't need to rush in . Speak to the other beaters and pickers up and the keeper on your local shoot and explain your situation and what you are looking for and something suitable will turn up. Check out UK gun dog site as it has pups and trained dogs for sale as well as contact details of breeders and trainers.

Too early for sloes mate. They have to be ripe and have the first frost before picking. Better looking for good patches of blaeberries , brambles and wild raspberries which are nearly ready for picking. They can all be used the same ways as sloes and put into cheap vodka , gin or whiskey.

Green lurchers If you ever get the chance try Squat lobsters they are caught in the creels with the prawns (langoustines). As they are smaller and fiddlier to shell there isn't really a market for them. They are sweeter and tastier than prawns.

Good effort. I love sea food. If you love your sea food then you need to visit the west coast of Scotland . Most of the sea food you get in Spain is landed on the west coast of Scotland and is on the same plane as you flying out on your hols.

Hi Blackbadger Your friends dog is worth a try. You have a few months till beating season so plenty time to check it out and see if it's trainable and suitable for joining the beating line. Is the dog ok with gunshot ? And you will need to explain to your friend and the dogs owner what beating involves and that the dog could get injured during a days beating. If it works ,You can get experience training a gundog , the dog gets additional exercise , training and work and your friends get their dog back happy and tired. Let's us know how you get on.

Hi Shealy I did a few brownies last week and they were really good. But I think any fish works. I am dry curing bacon this week and going to try and hot smoke that as well.

Fired up the Abu smoker this afternoon and with a few hand fulls of wood chips , I hot smoked 6 big herring . These are the first kippers I have done and turned out really good. Even managed to get the kids to eat them.

I was out in the woods in Ennerdale yesterday and the blaeberries this year are brilliant. Really big and loads on the bushes we picked a bag full in no time and had them with ice cream .

Whats The Best Photo You Ever Missed ?
greenshank1 replied to bunny tickler's topic in Wildlife and General Photography
I used to pass an old grave yard on my way to work and would often see a barn owl hunting the graveyard . I passed this one morning in the pouring rain and here was the soaking wet barn owl perch on the grave yard sign yards from me it looked haunting , but no camera. But best one I missed was a stag at sun rise slowly walk towards me , high stepping through a highland river he stopped in the middle and roared with the sun rising behind him but again no camera. -
I think this topic was mentioned in Chapman' s , Hunting the Lakeland Fells. So it's not a new theory that diet has an effect on scenting ability. I think it was in connection with the coniston but I will dig out the book and see if I can find it.

England Ngo Not Attending Cla
greenshank1 replied to Skull Hooker's topic in Gamefairs, Meet Up's and Events
It is expensive but so is everything today , especially at big events , and event catering is always a rip off doesn't matter if it's at football , rugby or music festival. We take the kids and camp and BBQ all weekend and they love it. They can get anything from a fly fishing lesson , air gun lesson meet various hound packs , see all the different working dogs and ferrets , watch butchery and cooking demos and see a massive variety of countrysports up close. Everyone is really friendly and take time to speak to the kids and get them involved. We have been twice before and are going b -

There's plenty of good working strains still being used on the shore which will hunt and work thick cover . Make sure it has a good working parents , a good double coat and gently introduce it to water and thick cover and you will be grand.

This is an interesting cross . Was there not pics in Walsh's lurchers and long dogs of lab greyhound crosses. You need to be careful though as there is a big difference growing between the good working lab strains and the trial strains. With working strains having way better coat , feet and nose and stamina but being chunkier and some of the the trial strains being lighter and leaner , with lighter coat . Most triallers don't work their dogs as it's seen as it unsteadies them until after they are finished trialling. You also need to check the lab has good elbow and hip scores.

Hi Fuji That first pic on the point on the lake shore there is a Rowan on it and it looks like the branches are plaited.
