  1. youve seen some easy chinkies then ,,, cause once this time of yr comes they can go ,,, september , the lads i know leave em as some are proper young They've always got young on the ground. You would just pick your runs. When you say I've seen some easy ones, do you mean slow or hard fighting? I never said they were slow, but they ain't got the pace of the bigger stuff, they can just turn a lot better. They haven't got any fight in them, I don't know what dogs the lads you know have got but if they're struggling with Chinkys then they ain't up to the job. Have you ever seen them yourself

  3. Back on topic, a bit of deerhound gives you the speed you need and a lot of other benefits.
  4. I've seen roe bucks put their head down and hit a dog when pushed hard. Only a couple of times, though. Your dog needed to be fast to get up to them though. Chinky's would fold up on the floor when the dog breathed on them,
  5. That photo is from the Poacher Watch brochure. Rather than worry about whether or not the photo was taken at a legal coursing event, I'd be more concern about the animal at the front of the shot. That don't look like much of a hare to me. The heading says "Talk to us, we can stop this" Maybe they're real intention is to stop all hunting with dogs, including rabbits!
  6. Gary, I live in West Sussex and have access to a time machine. PM me.
  7. dhxgh are verry brainy i don't no why people say they are not a dh is the brainiest of the sighthound family evert dh x i have had have been far frim stuppid Sighthounds by their very nature are not the brainiest canines, and I can't see how you come to the conclusion Deerhounds are the brainiest Sighthound ? Brainier than a Whippet; or a Ibizan, or Pharoah ? Why do Sighthounds need to be "brainy" ? There job is to run down quarry by sight and speed, and they do that very well !! Cheers. I think it comes down to how many different types of dog that you've seen work and what
  8. Mines been a breeze and my previous one was trouble free. My old dog took fox after fox in urban areas. He was a first x and a big lump at 32" TTS. This dog is a 3/8 x 5/8, he started picking up squirrels and bunnies that I'd shot at 6 months, started lamping at 9 months and has done everything that's asked of him. He has no trouble picking up rabbits and has done so in he company of a few blokes off of here. He's 30" TTS so he's no pocket dog. I sought out a DH x GH due to my earlier experiences. He is laid back until it matters, when he switches on.
  9. Fair enough, I apologise, you never said that they weren't intelligent. It's often said that DH x's are stupid. This simply isn't true. I am obviously a bit stupid because I didn't read your reply properly. Collie x's may be easier to train, and I agree that they are, but I'm not sure that that's a sign of superior intelligence.
  10. deerhounds dont have much brain power and not even a fraction of that of a collie, but they can be very biddable and add some real handy blood into a lurcher I dont think the brain is comparable to most collies but they arent stupid either. They are slow to mature though I couldnt do much in terms of basic training till he was about 10 months then things just seemed to fall into place after that Yourself and Haggis obviously haven't had deerhound x's or put them to any proper work if you don't think that they're intelligent. Are collie x's that much more intelligent or do the
  11. Well. simply tell everyone who you are, and what you have got against me ! I don't think I've ever called anyone names or claimed to have done anything I haven't actualy done !! Yes, I argue and debate things, and try to correct what I think is wrong ! But isn't that what the forum is about ?? Cheers. I've got nothing against you. I tried to correct you when you were wrong. You called me a dope.
  12. Just because you've claimed to have done stuff doesn't make it true. I don't know these people that can verify it and I doubt there'll be a big list of people who've been out with you coursing that come on here to defend you. Best not to call someone a dope when you don't know them and they could probably pick holes in your knowledge as most of it comes from Google. You've been called out a few times on here over claims you've made about stuff you've done and usually either try and put a stop to it by going out or try and ignore it. I can find the posts if you like or you can watch y
  13. Explain irony. There's nothing ironic about it. You'll end up looking the dope. Do you know what irony means? I'm going on your post and the fact that you spend every waking hour on the Internet, so can't do any hunting. Now Dopey, explain irony for everyone and tell us how my post or your rey to it was ironic.
  14. 2 went down badger sett and other in rock piles seen another hit rabbit sett serious? Why do some people disbelieve that hares sometimes go to ground when hard pressed ??? Cheers. was i talkin to you internet hunter No.... you were just talking nonsense ! Cheers. if you have nothing constuctive to say on this topic look at a non hunting topic on general chat have you seen a hare getting chased by a lurcher in a field by the way No..................... It's against the law, aint it ? But you, obviously have not done much hare coursing, if any, if you didn't know
  15. Mountain hares will go to ground quite readily. Ive only seen brown hares go to ground twice in all my years. Squirrels will go to ground when chased through the trees with a catty, they run to the ground and disappear in rabbit holes. Seen it loads of times.
  16. by no means do they turn into slugs at night, but even a poor excuse of a dog stand a higher chance of pulling one at night than in the day, seen many poor dogs pull by simply have it run into a fence, never seen this in the day though ATB GR Plenty of deer make mistakes during the day and hitting fences isn't uncommon. At your young age it's not surprising that you haven't seen or experienced a lot of things that are fairly common. As you get older and get more experience under your belt you'll see a lot more things.
  17. Yes plenty mate thankyou...do you? if you read my first post you will find i have never had the pleasure of catching one and shortly after the ban i joined the army for 5 years so i never got the chance to keep a dog let alone run deer, but if you want to be an arse dont let me stop you we are talking pre ban here aint we That's unfortunate but there's books about with pre ban photos in if you really need to see them.
  18. when a 190lb stag decides he aint going to run no more, and face's a dog , thats a test if you got a deer dog. To be honest Ray if you've got a good deer dog it should NEVER come to that but obviously you will have the exception? ..they should be pulled long before it get's to the stage of the deer being ran to exhaustion imo They don't always stop because they're exhausted, sometimes they stop because they reckon they've got a fighting chance. Adrenalin will do that to them.
  19. Myself and Matt had a shine last night at the golf course. He ran the new dog. Not many bunnies out but we had some decent runs. That dogs coming on nicely for him, running and turning well, a completely different animal to the wreck we picked up. Paddy pulled out the NV eyesight again and we had another kill off of the lamp.
  20. once the dog caught them, they never really put up much fight, but a roe buck that knew his patch was a tough one to catch, they can shift through the gears quick enough to. You never had a Roe buck turn and face the dogs?
  21. someones forgot their medication No, pre-ban deer was what i mostly done, so it pisses me off when idiots ruin it, including yourself, grow up, your here to keep topics on the straight and narrow, not ruin them, yeah i do find your banter funny, but there is a time and a place!!! get a grip ffs where have i criticized anyone, just stated a fact, these post as regular as pmt and end up just as grumpy within hours Quality!!!! I'm stealing that Paulus, I will give you credit whenever I use it though! Saluki x's love a deer. They ain't my cup of tea though, even though they're e
