The problem i have with DSC1 and the whole FAC thing is that there are a lot of us that have many years of experience with firearms and shotguns have been forced to take this qualification . When i did mine 4 years ago one chap on the course had never been shooting did not have a FAC but could now call himself a stalker and be let loose with a centre-fire rifle which he has no realistic idea of what it is capable of. In my humble opinion yes it is a useful course but as has been said there is no substitute for experience. Big.T

Hi, here is my 4yr old dog called Blue. Very game dog, excellent retrieving all game and starting to calm down when beating. Wonderful temperament.

Hi biffo, i think you will find they are purely ornamental, it would be very expensive to release any amoun of them. I do know of a couple of shoot that release half a dozen Golden pheasants with tere normal stock and then put a bounty o them on shoot days, i.e. if you shoot one it will cost you £50. There is also the issue of being more likely to be taken by predators as they are more visable. Tony

Birds to roost in smaller copse
Big.T replied to a topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Hi mate, dont think you can do much about it, you have obviously tried to keep them in one place but pheasants tend to stick to woodland edges and dont like to be to far from open ground. Probably feel safer dropping down from roost into open areas where there is less chance of being surprised by a fox. Another reason they spread out is they get terratorial and push each other further away. What is the other side of your bounderies? On my small shoot my neighbour has a bloody great big kale field and cant stop my birds getting there! Hope this helps. Tony The home wood is very small -

Hi all, Thinking about getting a automatic feeder to put on a flight pond, does anyone have any experience with them and if so any reccomendations on a particular make. Thanks Tony

Hi, we got our poults at £2.85 delivered and tagged, sounds like we got lucky. Paid £110 per ton for wheat but that has now gone up to £155. Get it from a keeper friend who buys a lot hence the good price.

How many birds are you buying in and and if you are going to mix them you don't want there to be to much difference in size/age as you may find the older birds will kill the smaller ones. they may not but it happened to me once, good luck.

Hi all, just a bit about myself. I run a small syndicate where we put down a few Pheasants and have a flight pond where we get Mallard and Teal. I also enjoy Deer stalking and am fortunate to be able to stalk Roe and Red. This takes up most of my time but when i can i get out after bunnies which at the moment are fairly numourous. Look forward to joining in thee forums.
