I`ve PM`d ya Cheers
-
Ha Ha Ha,dont get me going about those bloody things Ive got half the forum PM -ing me about the stop whistle, and you`ve prob got them PM-ing you to see if i`ve told you yet...
-
I'll pm you mate, its an absolute cracker.to watch the dog shut down like it does is great.it's more for dogs what I call on the whistle and need sharpening up rather than starting off, because it would be to much for a young dog phsycologically .and it does the trick. Superb.

All good sound advice from contributor's for basic training, without any knowledge of the dog what so ever.I can also understand the comments on the video's;,yeah it would not do for me,but at the end of the day a dog will only get away with what you allow it. So FAY, if you would be more specific with your post then maybe we can tackle the true issue and not stab in the dark. There are ways of sharpening up the stop whistle at distance with out going out to the dog. It's about reading a dogs mind NOT reading books......Stick in.....

Cain`t believe no body has asked the breed and age of dog and what it current symptoms are !!!..also the disposition of the dog.Different dogs different approach.

Don`t know how to post pic`s i`ve got a few,she likes a pose !
-
I`m thinking of doing package deals, 1hrs rent of the pen and you can take all the pic`s you want. You`ll need a good weather forecaster though
-
Yeah, I dread the warm weather, short tops, cut down denims and walking round the reed bed 20 bore in hand, it freaks some blokes out and causes to much distraction in the training sessions ...... NO WONDER THE ORDER BOOKS FULL !

Rabbits sorted, and the size 8 kennel maid came back happy.Apparently it was a bunny fest ! Got the rabbit pen topped up to a good level again. So any body needing to hire the pen and guidence from the maid get in touch..Thanks to all those who contacted me. Stick in. !

Opportunity has arisen for somebody to clear rabbits on a farm in the Warcop area, asap .I will be present or my kennel maid. I require about 15 rabbits ( live ).Then you can take the rest or i`ll shoot the bolters .Please no wide heads, only genuine "son`s of the soil"...

Cheers for that bud, give me a bit of notice and i`ll arrange a carrying crate, you can pm me Cheers..

As a gundog trainer the use of rabbits to instill steadiness in a gun dog is a very useful tool.Used in conjunction with a rabbit pen dogs are trained to ignore live rabbits running and with spaniels used to flush the rabbit and not give chase. Ta.

Absolutely bang on......And i thought for one second i was missing some thing...You have to have such a bond that the dog see`s you as the release mechanism for the task a head and the subsequent commands to be given..One thing you can`t do is train a dog one day and then leave it till the weekend ( that if you want a controlled animal )..

Well, i`ve certainly not seen dogs reprimanded at trials, and they would certainly be getting told,in my company. As for booting dogs round the field " well we all have seen pictures of this spread across the daily papers showing what injury it does to people" let alone a dog. You ain`t convinced me with your collar,Oh and what about that ban !!!,would you like to comment further.....
-
Not banned, they are in Wales, but have you re=wrote their law !,and it`s only a matter of time when it is rolled out in the rest of the country,so i await your apology, not. Electric collars are the lazy, defeatist way of installing fundamental basic obedience in a dog later in it`s life,If you can`t install the fundamental basic`s in a dog through time proven training methods then, keep it on a lead....Move with the times " Give your head a shake "....
-
Hunter 1103, Just let me have a rant before i answer your plight ! WHAT ARE ALL THE PROBLEM SOLVING GUNDOG TRAINERS GOING TO DO WHEN THE COLLARS ARE BANNED ! " WELL ONE THING IS FOR CERTAIN I HOPE IT RIDS OUR SPORT OF A LOT OF CHANCERS".now thats better.. Hunter 1103, If i am right in thinking you have trained this dog from a pup until it`s introduction to the shooting field. The shooting game has clicked in it`s head and it`s having a whale of a time, albeit out of control. This is no fault of the dogs !."Dogs will only get away with what you let them" and the more you do the more they obli

Probably one of the worse area`s for a dog to injure it`s self,if you leave it,it may become infected,if you have it stitched the dog will probably pull them out.The main issue is the infection,if don`t want to attend the Vet`s then bath it morning and night with cooled boiled water and salt solution, and before lead exercise spray the wound with an antiseptic spray ( sheep spray ),you can get this with or without the purple dye, this then allows the antiseptic to penetrate and dry without interference from the dog. BUT if the wound shows the slightest sign of puss or smelliness, get the dog to

The object of the training exercise is that the dog flushes the quarry not you !.The more you do it for the dog the more it will let you...

Morning Fretwell 59, Hope i can shed some light on your spaniels lack of pushing through cover. With the dog only being presented as a 2 year old with no background on it`s initial training, i could only hazard a guess that the problem is highly likely to be in it`s foundation training... For Example : Taking the time of year into consideration ( cover available ),and whether your pup is ready for it ( running back to you with balls/dummies-no emphasis on delivery + if you have encouraged your dog to move left and right around your feet from 8 weeks of age),the following i start with be

Cheers for that pal,i remember reading a copy of this magazine a couple of years ago when my mates dog won it,it`s a cracking read. Thanks again... -
Fay, I read your plight regards your cocker`s unfortunate situation... The very fact that the dog in it`s initial experience of the hunting world was allowed to run in a pack situation will make your chances of having an animal safe to shoot over nye on impossible.... ( things become ingrained ) A credible professional trainer would not take the task on ( only for the money aspect ),never mind yourself as a novice handler. One thing that does puzzle me, is why you chose to take the dog on, knowing it`s background ? Regards "Collars" they have their place !! preferably around the

From the age of 8 weeks to 6/7 months i don`t put to much emphasis on the quality of the actual delivery ( spaniels ),rather encourage the dog to run back to you - get on your knees and let the dog jump into your arms -DON`T make any attempt to take to dummy,if it drops it ! dont worry, nurture the return to you and make the dog feel he is in a comfort zone.Your probable standing over the dog upon it`s return is giving off a dominance to the dog thus dropping the dummy.... I would probably not allow yourself to not get to drawn in with the retrieving aspect as the more retrieves the dog is se

What aspect of the retrieve are you failing to in-still into your puppy.
