Hi, I am getting two jill kits soon and would like to add a hob to the court. He will be given the snip so no unxepected litters next year. Does anyone have a hob kit around Dorking/Horsham/Guildford/Crawley type area in Surrey? He will be living in luxury, can show you pictures of the court he will be living in, and will be worked. thanks, /Mad

Oh I do like the idea of trap modding! I don't have the skills of these guys, but I might pimp mine by lowering it by 20mm, adding an alloy chain and maybe painting the spring. We could meet up with our traps in fast food car parks on Saturday Night playing loud animal calls. /Mad

Looking for guidance on what size to make a nesting box for the court. Looking at having 2-3 ferts in there so thought 12" by 12" by 8" high with a lift off lid would suffice. But, would appreciate your opinions/advice/experience please. thanks, /Mad

None of the books I have read and reading books is all I have done as I am a ferret newbie have mentioned jabs for ferrets bar the jill jab and and acute vetinary treatment that may be required. But as above, these were all UK books so no mention of silly clothes either. /Mad

Some good info here, so thanks for that. As usual everyone has their own way of ferreting which works best for them. If I can take all this info and learn from it my first few outings should be less stressful. Martin, are you saying that you wouldn't dig but just leave a box overnight for the ferret? Is this why you have never dug in 30 years? How often does this happen to you? Ricky, what is this field craft that you use that stops the ferts from laying up or getting stuck? I'm interested to learn please.

Really looking forward to it, do hope the weather says clear, it was torrential this morning with flooding. I like the ground, went to the Country fair there last year. Strangely enough came home with chooks that time as well. A trio of Belgium WaterMael. Cracking little birds. Ditch: If I do see those chooks, they be coming home with me mate! /Mad

I'm intrigued now! Is it something to do with a rubber suit, a bucket and a large animal? /Mad

I don't understand people sometimes. If they couldn't keep the ferret fair enough. But to charge you for doing them a favour, completely amazed at the cheek of it. You gave him a second chance and he is paying you back by working his little socks off. Good team! /Mad

Hi all, I know there is a long time until I go ferreting (haven't even got any ferrets yet), but I am looking for some tips and tricks from those with many years of experience (polite way of not calling you old) on digging. Firstly, I understand the principle and have a finder but how do you guys go about digging? How long do you sit around on your box waiting before firing up the finder/spade? I know some people like to keep track of their workers, others just wait. But for how long? 30 minutes, hour? Do you use a probe? Does anyone still use a liner? How often have your little

Do you mean this stuff: /Mad

How close to Dorking are you? We have loads of rabbit in our keep fresh larder (the fields) which I have been saving for when our ferts arrive. More than happy to pop out and whop a few for you. Seems silly to pay when we often have trouble giving them away. /Mad

Bottom left corner of any page is a drop down with the different skins, select Hungtinglife 2 and you are back to normal (well, the forum is, can't speak for you!) :-)

Pleated tartan mini skirt for a ferret. I blame Tony Blair & GW Bush for all that is wrong in this world. /Mad

Seemed to all go ok, well at least it is running again with the user db and posts. That is what I would call a result as I stand here in front of a rack of servers with nothing going right for me today, bloody SCSI tape devices grrr /Mad

That looks really nice, and great to see some pics of inside. I am trying to get ideas of how to 'furnish' the inside of my court and was wondering about having ladders for them to climb. Do they use the one in there? /Mad

Is carpet the best material for the floor of your court? I imagine it must need regular cleaning. Thanks for the offer though, I should be ok with the 100mm drainage pipe from the farm. /Mad That is a good idea. They must love burrowing through that lovely smelling compost. Could do the same with that sunken area that, was it Blando built oustside his court. Fill that with compost and let them burrow about for hours. /mad

Court coming along a treat now, just finishing off the wood work and have started adding shelves for them to sit on. So far they have 8 shelves, 6 of them are quadrant shelves in the corners, some one above the other. The other two are bog standard bits of wood with backets. Have two up against the wire mesh so that they can sit there and watch the day go by rather than spending their time hanging off the mesh. Other shelves will ahve hooks underneath for hanging hammocks and stuff like that. What I am wondering is, what do you guys use to connect shelves/areas together? I will be

Looks good, but not sure about the stuffed dog head! /mad

The math doesn't add up. We had 167 hobs 165 jills and your adding: 9 hobs 8 jills That should make: 176 hobs 173 jills think the 9 slipped in there by mistake! Damn even, just goes to show that you need a fairly large data sample before you can start to see any real patterns. In this case, we are as close as would be expected to the 50/50 ratio. That is why I always shout at the tv every time I see an advert saying 100% of woman say blah blah (well they do :-) and the sample data is about 200 people. What tosh. /Mad
