  1. Ok, after months and months of getting their Court ready, laying concrete, new roof, walls doors etc etc and getting more and more excited as each day went past... one of my new ferts has arrived. Drove up the M25 with my daughter after work, just missing the huge accident and miles and miles of tailback on the A13 and collected our fert from Stubby (top bloke, was good to meet you ) The polecat is mine, we are calling her Ophelia (going for a Shakespeare theme for the trio. The hob when he arrives will be called Cornelius and yet to decide on the other jill), the silver is fo
  2. I can answer this now I have some ferrets :clapping: Raw with dried as an absolute emergency back up. I did have a whole stack of rabbits stored up in the freezer but I thought it was going to be a few weeks until the babies arrived so gave the whole lot away. A change of plan meant that two kits arrived this Friday from Stubby so I had to pop out today with the boom stick. Shot four bunnies, put the back end of one near the sleeping ferts and I kid you not, I could have sworn they grew wings as they literally flew out of their bed and sank their teeth into the rabbit and proceede
  3. Good to meet you too Steve. That Anderson shelter Court is fab! You need to put more pictures up on the forum mate. Journey home was quick and painless (thankfully missing the huge accident and tailback on the A13), ferts are in their new home, playing in the pipe and under the logs. They look so small in there but are oh so cuddly. Will have to make some slight adjustments to the court now they are here as I have spotted some, what we would call 'issues' with the design. Nothing major. Ferret15, I'm afraid the lovely coloured silver I chose for you is not very well, what wit
  4. Thanks, I have (now) put wire mesh on the ladders to help the littleuns climb them. Re the seperate cage, I have a four-storey hutch with interconnecting ramps ready for the lad. It is about 7 feet high, has four levels, each with it's own door. If I need to seperate the hob (as he will be snipped) he can go in there and still live in spacious luxury. /Mad
  5. Thanks, pleased with it myself as well! Under the straw is 6 inches of concrete then sand and hardcore. Thought it would make cleaning easier. /Mad
  6. Just thought I would show you what it looked like back in April. And yes, I am like a kid in a sweetshop! Wife is going to drop my daughter off at work tomorrow so she can come with me and help me choose. Ok, before I even started work... Floor dug out... /Mad
  7. All that is missing is the two batteries and a ferret. You can buy the batteries from Deben. "We can indeed supply you with RM13H batteries please see the following link Ferret Finder batteries from Deben." They are available cheaper from Ebay but I for one am a little wary of buying cheap Chinese crap that runs out after a few minutes. /Mad
  8. It's been a long time coming as I decided I wanted to get ferrets at the end of last year, but tomorrow I pick up the first of my ferrets. I am off after work to see stubby and collect either a silver or polecat jill depending on which takes my fancy. and next week someone else will drop off another hob and jill for me. (There will be another ferret to keep it company until the two others arrive next week, but this one is for Ferret15, she will collect it the next w/end) The court is almost finished, obviously it will be an ongoing evolving project as I learn what ferrets like a
  9. Stubby, you inbox is full and I can't PM you. /Mad
  10. Good point! In the wild they would continue hunting all through the pregnancy and rearing. But, would probably catch one prey and then stop. /Mad
  11. I have absolutely no experience in keeping ferrets, but I do know that the more space animals have the healthier they are both physically and mentally. That is why I have converted an old falling down shed into a ferret palace: From a tatty old shed: To a ferret palace!: These pictures are slightly old and have since added further items: eg more ramps/added grip to existing ramps. Will also add things hanging from the ceiling for them to play with and cover the floor when the ferts arrive, + extra toys like a wheel etc etc. /Mad
  12. You need to find someone with a pest control job as they always have far too many rabbits. One of the blokes at our clay club is always pestering me to take rabbits off him, so is the game keeper and as I am yet to get ferrets I have had to turn them down. Did have a whole stack in the freezer but 'er indoors' was complaining about all the eyes looking at her evey time she went to get some food out. When I am closer to getting ferts (two weeks now, can't wait, oh so excited!), I will start stocking up again, we have 3 freezers in the house, two for human food and one chest freezer
  13. Excuse the probably daft question from someone who knows nothing about this subject, but wouldn't purse nets be easier? /Mad
  14. I buy my Springers from the Game Conservancy Trust Online shop. Because: 1) I know they are the real thing 2) It helps the GCT 3) I know they are the real thing People need to stop penny pinching and buy quality. What is the point in trying to save a quid here or there on something that is going to last you for many many years. It just doesn't make sense. /Mad
  15. Good man! Rescue ferret, already pregnant and all the kits rehomed and the mother in a good home. /Mad
  16. H&J you and I are in the Weald of Surrey, comprises hard f**king clay. Lovely loam soil down to about 6 inches and then after that rock hard yellow clay. When I start ferreting I will be taking a JCB with me. /Mad
  17. Leaving aside the legalities of shooting defenceless baby kittens. I think the press should know of this awful behaviour from the RSPCA officer and how the fate of those beautiful baby kittens was saved by the kindness and actions of a certain professional trapper and pest control (no names need be given). It is not often we, as the hunting/shooting/fishing fraternity get the chance to name and shame someone from the RSPCA. The public should be told that those nice friendly people from the RSPCA are not the kind animal loving people they think they are. Wouldn't take long to turn your
  18. I will crop, resize and compress any images sent to me for inclusion in this thread. With 7+ years experience in making piccies high enough quality to be seen but quick to download, I can help poor old D.S. out. Can't do sod all about the old mans eyes though! Just PM me for my email address and I should have them done pretty quickly depending on the time of day. /Mad
  19. Three more to catch, sounds like you will need to enlist the help of DS! /Mad
  20. Should he not be reported for suggesting that you shoot the cats? Thought that was not only illegal but pretty much goes against the whole Prevention of Cruelty to Animals vibe. Wouldn't it be good if that got into the wider domain, I can see the Headlines in the Red tops now... Cruel RSCPA officer suggests that fluffy baby kittens be shot. Damn good read though, loved it. /Mad
  21. Zoiks! Bad news mate. That is very sad. Is that the healthy jill that is still ok, the one that was up and about when we came over? Are you keeping her? Do you want some more wabbits? Hopefully going out on the quad tonight with a shotty. Sorry to take the thread off on a tangent Artemis. /Mad
  22. Much like children then in that the box the toy came in gives them as much enjoyment as the toy. When you say soft squeaky ball, is that a large one or small? Would a tennis ball be an idea? I have no idea what these guys will play with when they arrive. thanks, /Mad
  23. oooh, that run has more toys than my kids bedroom! Do they play with all of them? Which is the favourite? What toys would you recommend? My ferts arrive in 2 weeks time and the court is ready but devoid of toys. Looking for suggestions (apart from shelves, ramps & pipes). thanks, /Mad
  24. Very nice. I see it also comes with a choice of Ferret snacks. Chooks or wabbit. Do you have to say which you prefer when paying? /Mad
