  1. My god, surprised there is any room for ferts in there with all those toys. Better not show this to my lot or they will be jealous. Glad they have stopped fighting so much, all that extra space must be great for them. /mad
  2. I will have to show this to Ophelia and Susie and show them what Mum got up to. /Mad
  3. And you are yet to see me with a hangover! /Mad
  4. Interesting, do you not feel that this type of attitude just makes it harder for those who are willing to take the time to get permission the right way, and I'm not talking sexual favours! . Or is this just not an issue? I'm not spoiling for a fight or flame war or anything. Just interested to hear, from others as well if they just poach if they can't get permission. What is the general consensus here guys? If someone won't give it to you just take it anyway? thanks, /Mad
  5. I have just opened up the Ferret Skyway to the ferts which consists of lots of lengths of drainage pipe connecting all of the shelves up together into one big playground. (Pictures coming soon). I originally spent an hour connecting the high shelves together and stood back with me 7 year old boy and said what do you think son, feeling proud as punch with my efforts, clever dad and all that. He then pointed out that there was no way for them to get up to that level as I hadn't connected it to the lower shelves. A bit of hasty cutting of pipe and slipping of stanley knife into skin b
  6. There was a slightly off smell around, I would have blamed the dog but we don't have one! /Mad
  7. I was wondering this as well. Surely we should be leaving the gut in so that they get the complete complete diet they require? Otherwise they are going to be missing out on the nutrients in the stomach and gut. /Mad
  8. My 8 year old daughter now handles ours. They have been with us for two weeks now and are fairly well behaved and are about 11-12 weeks old. /Mad
  9. Just as it was starting to get dark I went back into the Court to add a new ramp for the ferts and got an awful shock. There lying on the floor on it's back was what I thought was one of the ferrets, being ripped apart by the others in what looked like a feeding frenzy. After panicking and rushing over I realised it was the Squirrel I had shot earlier and put in to feed them. I felt like a right idiot. /mad
  10. Managed to get photos of the other two ferts I got from Tom last week. Here is our hob Cornelius and Cornelius and the jill <ferret with no name> So far she has been called 'Mouse' and 'thing', we are just waiting for the right name to come. Everyone has settled in nicely, made a right mess of the court and enjoyed themselves. Plenty of mental ferret fun happening every waking moment. I have just put the ramps back in as they are now old enough to climb them without falling off everytime. This has given them all a whole new world to explore. /mad
  11. Nice set up there. Glad the run finally arrived. lucky ferts. /Mad
  12. Sorry, my mistake, I read it wrong. Still... remember that you have no idea what these guys have had to put up with in the past. People running dogs on their land, ferreters digging holes and leaving them for his stock to fall in and break limbs. Idiots running over his land with boom boom sticks shooting anything that moves. Local kids with air rifles etc etc. You can understand that after a while 'them lot' are all tarred with the same brush. You have to try your hardest to change their perception. And I personally feel that not stepping onto anyones land without permission is a
  13. Rude? What is rude about not letting a complete stranger onto your land? Would you give someone you have never met before carte blanche to kill animals on your land, remembering that these farmers may have already been 'burnt' by someone else in the past who poached, or lacked any respect? If you go about this the correct way, print off some business cards, create a letterhead and print off some letters with your name and address, with perhaps a copy of a reference then post these out. Remembering to run it through a spell check first. Treat it like a business, dress smart. I d
  14. Thanks Magwitch, She is lovely, I will add her picture to the ferret family tree. /Mad
  15. Thanks mole trapper I have sent ian b a pm so hopefully he can sort it out Looks right to me! Welcome to the forum. /Mad
  16. Yeah, but she is trying to catch a ferret, not a ditch Shitter! /Mad
  17. As a ferret newbie I have had to go through this and found that the best way was the gag method with an additional blow on face and stern NO. Flicking or tapping their noses just seems to make them bite more as they tend to see it as a game, you can see the devil make an appearance in their eyes. Ours have in the last week calmed right down and now only play mouth. We are at the stage now of sticking them on their backs and trying to excite them into biting. Unthought of a week ago. If only I had so much success with Poo training. It sometimes resembles a nut house in there with sh
  18. A couple of Mk4 fenn traps (or live catch) will sort them. I would cancel the pest control and do it yourself. There is loads of advice in the Trapping section of this forum from people who actually do this for a living (unlike that guy who came round to your house). I would also tell your neighbours that it is a problem for all of them and not just you to sort out. Say that while he saw it coming from your garden, it was just returning to its nest in his. Up to him to disprove you! If they moan, just Google for rats and wheelie bins. /Mad
  19. Thanks for the replies. I think my neighbour can get some from the farm, that is if they have any left after recent events. /Mad
  20. Really well mate. Where it was nice and quiet in there, it is now madcap mayhem with 4 ferts leaping and diving and playing. Really spiced it up. Will get some pics tonight hopefully. /Mad
  21. Hi, I know that nothing containing phenol is safe for ferts and the above two products are sold as safe for small animals and don't appear to contain phenol, but can anyone say for certain? If not safe, what do you guys use? I'm not keen on buying expensive stuff from rubbish pet shops. thanks, /mad
  22. Stubby, <start newbie who knows nothing> why can't you cross silver on silver? Surely it is just a colour, dominant or regressive and nothing more? The lumps on the back sound like Osteodystrophy, did they also have breathing probs and a seal like walk? <end newbie who knows nothing> /Mad
  23. Ouch. If it's all the same I'd rather not. /Mad
  24. Bad news. The farm manager of the second farm also manages 4 other farms. One of which is round the corner from us. You don't need to imagine how many farms he will visit in a few days... So easy how it spreads. And stupid f*cks on the radio complaining about foothpaths being closed made me shout at the radio on the way home. One woman was complaining about farmers putting barbed wire across foothpaths. I'm sorry love, has that nasty farmer inconvenienced you while you tried to walk Foofoo before climbing into your SUV and taking the kids to school. sigh. /Mad
  25. foolish, ill thought out , antiquated guidelines About the same as their handling of the foot n' mouth outbreak. /Mad
