  1. Thanks guys, that makes perfect sense, will get some new batteries in there before use. /Mad
  2. Guys, I am new to all this Ferreting business and would appreciate some advice from the many experts on this group with regards to my finder. I have a 15ft Mk1 Finder (has markings up to 15ft) and, I think a 15ft collar (takes two R13 batteries). The trouble is that the clicking radiation sound :-) stops at or around 8-10 feet. I have put what I think are new batteries into the collar and no change (batteries are showing 2.71v). And the finder box battery is showing 7.85V not far off the 9v it should be. The Finder board says: DE 903 Mk7 Serial No. A1157 Any ideas? Ap
  3. I found that site just after I had posted my wanted, typical! I also wasn't after a freebie, I just like things that have a story and a life to them. Thanks for the link though, I do like the look of the light leather one. /mad
  4. The transmiter part on the micro collar is smaller and takes a smaller battery. Would I be right in saying that the micro takes 1 battery and the standard takes 2? Or am I way off here? /Mad
  5. Cracking info, thanks for that. Always like to know the small details. /Mad
  6. Hi all, Was wondering if anyone has an old and tatty Mk1 ferret finder leather case they are willing to part with. I like my things well used as they have more of a story, don't like new stuff. Which is quite handy as being skint I can't afford new stuff. thanks, /mad
  7. Ah, I hadn't thought of that! Could have been a bit of an accident if I had gone down that route. Any ideas as to the Mk2 marking on the wheel of the Mk1? thanks, /Mad
  8. Benny, the British Bulldogs site doesn't sell them any more. I enquired a few months back and the guy said it was an out of date page. /mad
  9. I was going to ask a similar question earlier, but will add to this thread. Can you confirm that it is the collar (transmitter) that is the deciding factor to its range, not the box (receiver) so that a 15ft collar would work with an 8ft box (as they are sold on Ebay) and be detectable at 15ft? So to shorten that sentance... the Mk1 box can pick up both 8ft or 15ft collars at their respective ranges. My next question... I see a lot of Mk1 boxes sold on Ebay as Mk2. When I question the seller they say that the depth wheel has Mk2 on it. Was there are Mk1 Phase II finder? Why are
  10. Again, Ebay is your friend.
  11. £50 - £120 depending on what day it is. have a look at some Ebay auctions to get an idea.
  12. Where are you... physically? /Mad
  13. Wow, You have just given me a very clever idea on how to stop my children putting their filthy sticky hands on the bloody walls. /Mad
  14. And that made me spit my lunch over the monitor at work! Back to the subject in hand... I bought a couple of imports off the popular Online Tat Bazaar we all know and love. They are no way as well made as the Springers I have. The treadle plate doesn't sit flat as the trigger is too short, the plate also rubs on the frame. Rubbish. The Springers on the other hand are sooo much better made. BTW, I got the Springers from the Game Conservancy Trust Web Site. Thought I'd do my bit to help out. /Mad
  15. Good man. It is just not worth it. Good work with those greys. I have two that come in to the garden and I can not catch them at all. Tried cage traps & fenns. All sorts of postitions, baits, tunnels, holes etc. They are just not interested. May be a bit wise to it. Daughter loves them and calls them Cheeky & Squeeky, Damn her! /mad
  16. Not quite as cheap... but you can buy them online at the The Game Conservancy Trust. /Mad
  17. What about an old walkman and small speakers, or if you want digital, a Sony MiniDisk player. They are pretty cheap these days. You could even use a portable CD player and burn your own disks. /Mad
  18. With the air rifle, I used to call Wood Pigeon in when shooting them in Pine woods using the old blowing into cupped hand trick. Was able to get a 'conversation' going and after a while the Woody would fly over to have a look (probably at what is making such a stupid noise) but I like to think it was fooled. Either way, ended up in the bag. /Mad
  19. That would mean that squeaking in foxes is illegal! It is only illegal to use pre recorded sounds for birds. afaik
  20. Spot on. Pugs and Drummers Ferrets and Rabbits in Britain Published by Faber and Faber Limited of London, ISBN 0-571-11024-8 Good book. Available here among others: http://ukbookworld.com/cgi-bin/order_enq.p...ayton14%2325929 /Mad
  21. May be a silly question, but why do the traps need this process? I can understand washing them to degrease and remove scents. A light coating of rust to make them blend in with everything else on a farm :-) But why the waxing &dye? BTW: Caught my first rat with a Fenn last week, couple of mistakes made, but I am in the process of building a new improved tunnel and learning all the time. /Mad
  22. Whats parrafin wax used for so I know where to find it? never heard of it before. Uses * Candle making * Coatings for waxed paper or cloth. * Food-grade paraffin wax o is used in some candies to make them look shiny. Although edible, it is nondigestible; it passes right through the body without being broken down. o Non-food grade paraffin wax can contain oils and other impurities which may be toxic or harmful. o Magic Shell o Coating for many kinds of hard cheese, like Edam cheese. o Sealing jars, cans, and bot
  23. Interesting article in this weeks Countryman's Weekly. David Bezzant is advocating the use of Carry bags in his article titled 'Farewell to Carrying Boxes'. Kind of goes against all that I have read so far. But, as I am yet to even get a ferret, I know nothing. /Mad
